  • So originally I was going to do a video on the history of red shirt shaggy, but while researching that I realized Scooby Doo and the 13th ghost came out.
So why not do a vid on that. Btw, if you still want to see a look at the red shaggy appearances, let me know in the comments.
    Thanks for watching!

I'm not a big fan of modern Velma. Back in the 90s films Velma was perfectly willing to abandon her skepticism when it was no longer logical. These days she won't acknowledge the existence of the paranormal when it's staring her in the face.

@@StunClubSoda Stun Club Soda Stun Club Soda Stun Club Soda i rewatch all the 13 ghost of Scooby-Doo and watch the new Scooby-Doo mystery,
In the new Scooby Doo mystery, Fred and Velma have jobs that was the reason why they were not solved mystery with shaggy, Scooby, Daphne, Scrappy-Doo.
And in one episode when everyone got together for Halloween they meet real monster. And do know what Velma did? She just to it as true. At first everyone didn't believe it but 5 second later, everyone believe they was real and no one tried to deny it even.
Why can't the new Velma be like the old one. And if the new Scooby Doo mystery is connecting to the 13 ghost of Scooby-Doo.

I could get the sense of irony of that joke that some people just won't change their "opinion" even with facts... but she does this everytime, it's just annoying, and we could just put her aside, but what brings everything down is that her crappy explanation at the end of every movie is the new "canon". Makes no sense and it's a shame because the old shows and movies tried to give us a different perspective and the new ones, while some are hilarious, they come and crap all over the "real ghost" stuff just because they think that's smarter (?) and let's not forget that in the original they were already adults and they reverted them to teenagers as "fixed" in the sequel to zombie island, school project my ass, Daphne and Fred had a Tv show, Velma had a book store, and Scooby and Shaggy worked at an airport.

I love The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo, to the point where, for my eighteenth birthday last year, I picked out Curse of the Thirteenth Ghost as a present despite having never seen it. I bought it and 3/4 of the movie I was enjoying and then... The end. While it was supposed to be made for fans of the original show it felt like a spit in the face to all that we cared about. The best Scooby Doo stuff has real ghosts and Thirteenth Ghosts doesn't work without the ghosts. It was a promising movie that turned out to be a total let down, just because it couldn't take creative risks. I feel like Return to Zombie Island ended up the same way.

They made Velma into a flat earther, someone so skeptical that she can't see the truth. The whole point of science isn't that it's infallible, science is adaptable and seeks to understand the world. If Velma existed before computers were a thing, she'd say "computers are impossible, it defies science, it's a trick" she treats science as if it were a religion and doesn't accept anything outside the realm of possibility. Velma in Zombie Island (1998) was great, she was a skeptic, but didn't deny obvious clues in front of her, at the end she accepts that the supernatural may exist.

    • @retrogamer6403

Remember Scoobynatural? Velma was a skeptic there which makes sense giving this was 1960s' Velma and not post-Zombie Island' Velma so she never encounter real monsters or ghost until she literally saw one about to kill her and her friends so I don't understand why they need to play up Velma being a skeptic knowing all the shit they had to deal with and the movie made it obviously clear that Zombie Island, ignoring Return to Zombie Island, was canon so Velma should have no reason to call everything that happen in 13 Ghost as "Just an illusion due to the height of the Himalayas" which, funnily enough, this movie also made her an idiot because the gang travel all over the world, not just the Himalayas, so how can she disprove ghost and demons don't exist when her explanation for why it's not real is straight up wrong?

I actually somehow only JUST learned about this movie existing a few days ago. How I went over half a year since its release, and even longer since it was announced, I have no idea. I remember watching the original show in reruns as a kid in the early 90s (I was born in '86 so it ended a few years before I could have watched it originally). It was never my favorite Scooby Doo series, but I wanted to see the movie a lot once I learned of it.
But honestly? The more I've looked into the movie, I honestly don't know if I want to bother. If you'll excuse the unintentional pun, it just seems like the movie goes against the spirit of the series. Like the whole "It was a guy in a costume all along" convention. I mean sure, that's an incredibly common thing for Scooby Doo and in itself I don't mind that at all, but in the context of the 13 Ghosts series, I'm not sure it fits (though I guess they just had to with the whole smug skeptical Velma thing). Then not having the two bumbling ghosts and Scrappy in the show. I get Scrappy is sort of unpopular these days, but it felt weird his absence was turned into a joke of sorts. Plus the idea that they tried to plant doubt that any of the ghosts ever actually existed I don't think I'm a big fan of.
That said, yeah...I'm just up in the air about wanting to see it or not.

I know a lot of people are asking why bogel and weird weren’t in this movie. They were in every single episode of the original show and i have seen so many people wondering why and being mad that they didn’t show up in the movie but I’m pretty sure that’s because they got sucked into the chest in the last episode of the show. I may be wrong about that so feel free to let me know if i am but I’m pretty sure that they got sucked into the chest along with the 12th ghost in the final episode which obviously would explain why they aren’t in this movie. Also I really liked were this movie was heading but velma was really starting to make me mad and the ending was just so stupid. If they would have just cut out all the nonsense about the 13th ghost being a regular person and the chest being the wrong one the whole time and how they made it seem like the original series never happened then this movie would have been great. I really wish that they could have just captured the demon in the chest and then tied up a bunch of little loose ends and then ended the movie that way it would have been just like the series and it would have been a perfect ending. But I guess I’ll just have to settle for this. Overall it wasn’t that bad i guess. Also I really hated the thing about fred being a cheerleader. Don’t get me wrong i have no problem with male cheerleaders like a lot of cheer squads wouldn’t be near as good without their male members so i have no problems with that. However the reason i hated it is because it was way off from freds character for him to be a cheerleader like it didn’t make sense at all, it had nothing to do with this movie, it didn’t make sense because they have said he was actually at trapping camp before this movie which makes a lot more sense, and it wasn’t funny either because unless you are living in the 80’s still what is funny about a male cheerleader? So yeah I really hated that part.

I have a bit of a soft spot for the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo. And I hate this movie for that ending. I don’t care if they left it ambiguous, Velma’s speech at the end was utterly stupid. While it is true that the franchise is mostly grounded in reality, it has dipped into the supernatural before. Zombie Island and Mystery Incorporated have and those two are considered by many to be the best Scooby Doo has ever put out so it’s not like it’s unknown to fans. Why did they even bother with this movie if they were just going to pull this crap?

    • @Sandstormer9
      @Sandstormer9 3 роки тому +4

100% agree with on that. The executives apparently wanted to force the standard Scooby-Doo formula onto this film, even though it wouldn't of worked out well since the original series went a different path with how it handled its plots. For example, instead of arresting crooks disguised in masks, the gang would have to suck in the demon back into the chest of demons. So watching this film and the way they handled it makes me want to have a word with whoever thought this film was a good idea for a 50th anniversary for Scooby-Doo and ask them why on Earth they had to ruin it by polluting it with the infamous "Swamp Gas/Lack of Oxygen Due To Being High Up The Mountains" line from Velma. I understand that a lot of people, even Carl Sagan praised the original series for being somewhat educational about how monsters aren't real etc... But at some point, a fraction of the writers & fanbase would want to write/watch something new. Some wanted to see if the supernatural elements could work well within a franchise like Scooby-Doo & frankly it worked wonders. The purists need to stop & embrace the fact that Scooby-Doo has dealt with both subject matters - The Grounded & The Supernatural. One of the many reasons for Zombie Island's success was because by that point many fans & writers were getting sick & tired of the typical Scooby-Doo formula. Personally I want to enjoy the costumed crooks without having to worry that would be the only formula I would be getting from a Scooby-Doo plot til the day the series fades forever from time & history.

I mean she shouldn't have been skeptical anyway, given her past adventures, but the biggest problem was really all that crap at the end about the ghost just being the partner, the real ghost just seeking redemption, etc etc. Just, why? What was the fucking point? That whole opening sequence with the partner sacrificing himself so Vincent could get away was great, why mess that up for a twist that only hinders the movie overall?

Shaggy/Daphne had so much chemistry in that show unlike the dry styrofoam chemistry of Fred/Daphne. They should have made the movie with just the original characters from the 13 ghosts and subtly hinted at that romance to shake things up. Scooby Doo needs to have different things because it has started to become a lowly, soulless cash grab for WB.

    • @SS-vs4lo
      @SS-vs4lo 4 роки тому +3

@@thetechnocrat4979 yes you are right. I'm surprised that how little people think about that and also it is never experimented upon again. Fred/Daphne looks good on screen but that's it. Shaggy/Daphne has lot more chemistry. I would say their relationship was building up since the shows when it was only Shaggy, Daphne, Scooby, Scrappy. There are plenty of hints. I think they should do Shaggy/Daphne now with modern technology and graphics and with proper build up. If they do it properly the couple would be really cute. We have had Fred/Daphne nearly on every shows and movies. Why not change it up?

Agreed. For me, I was never appealed by the Fred/Daphne dynamic as their chemistry feels too much of the pretty boy/pretty girl gig. It is not inherently wrong and if given a proper build up, can be very aesthetically pleasing but it has never been done properly. Except for Be Cool Scooby Doo (my personal favourite show), all the modern adaptations of SD literally shove the ' romance ' of Fred/Daphne down our faces and it has become annoying. Another thing which I absolutely loathe about the modern creators is the way they literally insult Shaggy/Daphne fans by vehemently denying even a slight possibility and treating it like a horrible bug (an infamous example would be the episode of ' Night Terrors ' from Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated Season 2 and it is not the only example)! Ironically it feels like a closet homosexual who tries to cope with it by vehemently denying its existence and constantly vocalizing about how ' Gays are bad! '. Scooby Doo needs a fresh new take but in a way which is respectable to the great Dane's legacy. I would love to see subtle and carefully handled romantic arcs between Shaggy/Daphne and Fred/Velma in it along with darker, grittier mysteries yet retaining good humour.

You're not the only person to think that. Sadly there are writers/fans out there who don't like "Supernatural" elements being in the Scooby-Doo franchise. I can respect why they might be against it, since the original series was all about solving mysteries and debunking superstitious nonsense. Supernatural stories could be considered a form of jumping the shark for them. But that doesn't give them the right to mess around with scooby-doo properties that do deal with supernatural storytelling. I believe the fandom should be able to embrace both sides of the real vs fake monsters spectrum. Hopefully one day Velma can be her own character again and not be some writer's voice-piece like you mentioned above.

plus we don'y know what the actual ghost was, so something else to think about, they go to college now, they are suppose to be adults, so my theory is that mystery incs timeline bleed into the old time creating confusion to everyone, cause flim flam is suppose to be an adult now won't he?

I thought'd it be great to return to an older property while injecting new life into it. It's been over a year since I've seen it now, but if I remember correctly, the first two thirds are actually decent - it's that last third act that unravels everything for me. It feels like it has to return to a status quo of "the monsters aren't real" with a small wink of "unless..." It feels disingenuous to the original 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo.

I did my own review on Wattpad, and with it I did a "what if Velma had opened up the chest at the ending," and what a continuing series for that would've been like. I was wondering if you could do your own review on what a series would be like, but here's my opinion: Someone else suggested that a series was still possible, as Flim Flam could visit the gang and Velma could open the chest then to make up for not doing it sooner. I suggested that the series would have Velma going through a lot of depression and guilt, starting with denial that ghosts aren't real. Flim Flam could eventually join the gang permenantly, all while reconnecting with his old friends, Scooby, Shaggy, and Velma, while bonding and gaining a special relationship with Fred and Velma. I thought Velma and Flim Flam could start out having a bit of a rivalry due to Flim Flam knowing more about the new van and other gadgetries than she does, with a bit of bitterness in there for a while, considering she might want to blame someone for her life falling apart, this time for real. But I also imagined Flim Flam and Velma would eventually patch things up, become partners in their talents, mentoring and helping each other with gadgetry and ghost catching, both opening up about their feelings and past. I also thought maybe Flim Flam and Velma would fall in love, giving her a permenant love interest, and that if he were to join the gang, his love for Velma would be the reason. So what's your opinion? Can you do a video with your own thoughts?

    1. Vincent having his magic.
    2. The 13th ghost being real and not reformed so it staying 13 and not becoming 12.
    3. Not having Velma being so over Skeptical and in denial because she wasn't in other films.
    4. Having Bogel and Weerd in it
    5. Scrappy finally returning or at least not having Fred and Velma look and talk like they've never met him because they have in other shows.
With out this stuff the films almost a disgrace and joke to the The 13 ghosts series and the same goes with Return to Zombie Island. It's been way to long since they met real monster and we never see any of Scooby's relatives and family anymore and by it's just not the same or as much fun now so Warner Brothers should start having what the fans love about the series in the movies from now on.

    2. Flim Flam spend more time with Fred and Velma instead of Shaggy, Scooby, and Daphne
    3. Not only was the 13th Ghost a fake but the real 13th ghost wasn't worth being a part of the main 13

I hope it's just as dark as the first one and doesn't go down the direction where it's another fake. That's getting old and would definitely anger the fans. If they do it's better not to make one and just leave the first alone.

Love series 13 ghost, but way build this movie could be better. Should just showcase the characters in 13 ghost getting back together. Should done big build where finally 13 ghost put in chest for good.

I felt like this movie completely shit all over the series it was a conclusion to, Matthew Lillard's voice is clearly getting tired as Shaggy, and Fred acts completely out of character here....Velma not knowing who Scrappy is was a major continuity error. For everyone complaining about Velma, at least it wasn't shitting all over a series that it *concluded* .

@@StunClubSoda ya just fred and velma question who scrappy is. The scene zoom to fred and velma when flin flam asked? never see how daphne, shaggy and scooby reacted to the question. They never really explained why scrappy disappeared. Theres no in universe explanation they just dont mention him.

They should show the last two episodes of The 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo, this not what I was thinking about, Fred and Velma is stupid in this one. Do not get me started on return to zombie island that sucked too.

I was happy with this film but I do feel like actually catching a 13th ghost would've been more satisfying. Also Flim Flam was still annoying in this but thank god he wasn't as bad as he was in the show. I love how they write Scrappy out of existence

i actually like this series because it deviated and had ghosts be real. didn't grow uo with it but I'm the right age to have caught some of the episodes on rerun....although i hayed scrappy snd probably changed it as soon as I saw him. Maurice LaMarche, plays Vincent in the movie and he's been a voice actor for over 40 years now? he reprised the role for mystery incorporated, byt he's the voice of brain from pinky and the brain, egon from animated ghost busters, and has done voices for og gi joe, Simpsons, Disney, rick & morty.... basically yiu name it he probs did something for them.
anyhooo....i thought the story un the movie sucked. i didn't mind fred and velma joining but it wiped out everything that made the series different. ghosts aren't real. Vincent isn't a sorcerer even though in the series he transport's them several times and does other stuff that couldn't be faked in the universe created. but noooo they decided to make him hus modern incarnation as an actor... which works for mystery incorporated but not this. it just....it made for a bad series conclusion
