Otto von Bismarck was born into a Prussian noble family. He found himself as a newly chosen representative in Prussian government. In 1848, the year of revolutions, Prussian liberals started a revolution which was against Bismarck’s views.
However, the revolution didn’t last very long and the new king elected Bismarck to be in charge of the government. Together with Helmuth von Moltke and Albrecht von Roon, Bismarck unified German state under Prussian rule.
Death of the Danish king allowed Bismarck to force Denmark into war and, together with Austria, took German-speaking duchies from them. Unable to reach an agreement with Austrians what to do with the Duchies, the Austro-Prussian war started, with the Prussians emerging victorious.
After publishing a fake transcript of the meeting between the Prussian king Wilhelm I and a French ambassador, the French declared war. Bismarck’s Prussia was victorious in the Franco-Prussian war and King Wilhelm was crowned Emperor Wilhelm, with the unification of Germany finally achieved.

Hey guys, thanks for watching, hope you enjoy it!
At 5:32, the audio file glitched out, he was the first chancellor :) Sorry!
Tooky History thank you for mentioning his history
Please respond to this comment
I would but don't know what to say
Tooky History do a video about Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
Tooky History at least you pronunced it better than most people
Bismarck had a plan, Bismarck always had a plan.
From Extra Credits!
And he has always a backup plan
So many things wrong here
Extra credits
HE ALREADY HAD A PLAN BEFORE HE EVEN KNEW HE HAD A PLAN,
Denmark basically declared war on Prussia. With the occupation of the duchies the danes deliberately broke a treaty and hoped to provoke war because they thought they had the support of Britain and Russia (they did not)
French Montana I could imagine Princess Alexandria was on edge with Queen Victoria about being idle with her home nation.
VolumedMusicMan they simply had no cassus beli to help the Danes and the Prussians had their own marriage alliance with the brits (princess royal vicky and Frederick III)
French Montana I like the Latin. Thank you✌️
French Montana
But to point that out doesnt help in portraying Bismarck as James Bond Villian, so...
Thanks for educating people and speaking facts. Also denmark was oppressing and waging war against the German population of Schleswig.
Hi. I am a german student who loves history.
I just wanted to say that the second war was won so quickly because the Germans had the "Nadelgewehr“ one of the first back loading rifles that allow the soldier to shot faster while lying on the ground. The Austrians just had a front loader.
Blitzkrieg wasn't a thing back then. Nor was it called that. Wars generally didn't last that long but it was by no means blitzkrieg.
Even the German generals in WW2 only mentioned "Blitzkrieg" when noting that the Allies were saying it.
No it isn't. There was no such thing as Tanks, and Airplanes during Bismarck's time. Even during WW1 no one could have thought of Blitzkrieg because tactics for the Airforce and the use of Tanks were pretty primitive, and would also be impossible to do with such primitive tanks.
Accually blitzgrieg is german for lightning war
Well, I see someone doesn't know what "lightning" and "war" means.
Young Archivest Von Moltke shaped modern Blitzkrieg-tactics however, with the Auftragstaktik and the Bewegungskrieg shaping Blitzkrieg
Alot of mistakes, but as nobody had mentioned this one in my check:
The name iron chancellor comes from another story, when he was injured and survived like his body would be ironmade. It was a myth Bismarck created.
We need bismarck back, this new map looks gay af with a tiny germany.
I agree Germany looked a way better in 1989
Ha.
I assume you mean 1889?
Nope 1989 when there was not one but 2 german states!
Otto didnt care for Germany he only cared for the Kingdom of Prussia. He did not like the liberal ideas of nationalism
Yea... he didnt care about Germany in general, that explains very well why ALL of his Efforts were headed to a unified Germany...
Bismarck was amazing not some villian as you protray him.
loshosorus. He oppressed minorities.
loshosorus Well, he was a great leader, but also a great asshole ^^
Yeah, this video is pathetic.
its true
W.A. Szarkow. Majority is more important... like how 100 dollar is more valuable to 1 dollar
I'm still pissed that nobody mentions Frederick III of Germany in German history.
Evil Justin.Y well if you only ...rule... for 99 days and cant do anythink nobody cares
He’s the William Henry Harrison of German Emperors.
@@lordunhold5381 He was a fascinating and could teach a lot of people that not every Prussian/German back then was against liberalism and progress
3:45 And now, I guess, my life is complete. I have seen a genius 19th century European national icon in BDSM gear.
*lmao*
At this point we can confidently say that science has gone too far. Or something.
The prussian borders are wrong.
Prussia got the Rhineland after the Napoleonic Wars.
Yeah, and the rest of the borders are perferct
austria and germany's borders are both fucked up
thank god another person who realised it
Diofernic
After the Franco Prussian war he didn’t show the new Italian lands conquered from Austria, Memel wasn’t shown as part of Prussia, Alsace-Lorraine looks like it had a disgusting stroke and doubled in size, he mispronounced Alsace-Lorraine, and a few others map wise.
Prussia was a lot bigger than they showed, I mean they had less of Poland but it certainly went a lot more westward
150% discipline
James Mcgrath
This must be pinned.
When he said “here’s a German dude with a moustache “ every German watching got goosebumps
So many errors, can't even list all
to only name a few:
austria-prussia war was started by austria.
bismarck has never in his entire lifetime had a blitzkrieg because the first one was in 1939.
danish- prussian war was started by the danish because they tried to annex schleswig.
otto didnt had "fun time" because the danish king died. the danish nearly emediatly after that started the war.
I know right ... its sad, I think he is just a xenophobic propagandist letting his xenophobic/racist opinions/views control what his mouth says. Probably a nationalist from a country where anti-German sentiment is very popular because their national media is brainwashing them to be so.
@@kadiadekapes8163 he was sarcasticly saying the stuff that made bismarck LOOK evil idiot
Yeah
*"Austria putted pineapple to pizza"*
Pineapple on pizza part was the best!! Lol
6:04 Frederick came before Wilhelm II
your maps are horrific
Finally someone acknowledging it

The info is good but the map oh boi
This is a really cool channel I love how you make learning fun it’s the only way it can keep my attention
Congrats. Excellent Video!!!
This content pleases me. Good work.
Can’t wait to see what happens next with that new lad in power
And bad things gonna happen
Great vids! MrBetts sent me!!
Video ideas: Charles XII of Sweden (Carolus Rex), Erwin Rommel, Marshal Tito Josip Broz.
Btw Amazing work (i know a lot abou Bismarck and everything seems on point). Keep up the good work so i have something intelligent and funny to watch.
@@jurestrakl9361 Many many things were NOT on point. Not at all.
@@kadiadekapes8163 Then point them out
looks like tito became a vid
@@jurestrakl9361 those German borders 😂
just 15k subs ? this gonna rise fast , great videos , awesome one about tito !
Its a pretty shit video. maps are horrible and so many errors. He said bismarck like "invented" blietkrieg even thoug blitkrieg was made almost 40 years after his death
"If you think you are so powerful I just wanna say, 20 years after my dead your empire will fall I don't know how but I know where, some Damm foolish thing in the Balkans will cause your downfall"
-Otto von Bismarck 1894
He also said, "The whole of the Balkans is not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian grenadier."
Now I see why the new Emperor didn't like Bismark.
This guy is like one of the most important figures in 19th century Europe, alongside with Napoleon Bonaparte.
Love how u used a this is America reference! I love that song
A little wrong as at 4:37, Bismark actually did not want Alasce and Lorraine as he knew it would make the French hate Germany even more and would pit Germany with another enemy in a later war (which it did in ww1), he believed not gaining these regions would be better as it would make the French see Germany in a more thankful light (reparations are nothing compared to land loss), or at the very least more forgiving. He actually wanted the war just to unite the German states into a mutual conflict which would help in unification (which it did as we can see). Also u didn't mention the Spanish succession crisis at all for the beginning of the war. As well, at 6:03, u didn't mention Fredrick's short rule. Yes it was very short and uneventful, I still believe he deserved at least a short mention, it would take only 5 seconds anyways if u mention him as being short ruled.
The whole Vid was aimed at throwing sh... on Bismarck
He is an anti-German/Prussia lying propagandist it very much seems like. I got to add that Alsace and Lorraine were completly German thus making them a German state as well somewhat (except not being an independent state but chained to the french government). The french originally invaded and annexed Alsace + Lorraine in the 17th century. But tried many times already before that.
I think Fredrick's rule is absolutely worth mentioning. Bismarck had been grooming and playing favorites with Fredrick for a while before he became emperor so Bismarck would stay on the good side of the emperor. But unfortuantely Fredrick died shortly after becoming emperor leaving Wilhelm II.
If the Germans had been smarter they would have turned Alsace and Lorraine into an independent, bilingual buffer state like Belgium to the north and Switzerland to the south. (Lorraine had been an independent grand duchy just a century before!)
@@Blaqjaqshellaq Frenchies still would have hated Germany for doing that but perhaps it would have aided in Britain wanting to maintain the neutrality of weaker states and thus thwart French ambitions but am not sure all in all
That was really good
watch the version of bismarck's life by extra credits for better maps and realism also humor
Some of your history is a bit off, but I love the effort and I can see the potential for this channel!
his history Is extremely inaccurate
The title isn’t “Emperor of Germany “ , but German Emperor. There’s a difference.
peroz1000 the first 3 kings ar also are kings in prussia
Good comment. Underrated.
Yeah since there were 2 of those
Wilhelm and the Austrian emperor
Samuel Schönenberger no the austrian empire must declair that they acept that they leave the german bound (1866)
the reason why he is German Emperor is because it would sugest that the other german lord.s are subjects of the Emperor witch they are not
You should do one on Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour; AKA the Italian Bismarck.
In addition to his political scheming, one notable thing he would do is hold diplomatic negotiations in airless rooms with either no windows or ones that could not be opened, with the temperature always slightly too warm, AFTER having eaten/while eating garlicky food (or sometimes just plain garlic). This combined with his intimidating size meant he typically got what he wanted in these negotiations, and got it rather quickly.
Hey Tooky History can you make a video for Vasil Levski.
(Im not forcing you to do anything just giving an idea)
Great video but the maps are super wrong
I lost it when Bismarck was laughing at the French guy's wang, you're a genius Tooky.
A genius that is constantly making historically inaccurate or completly incorrect claims although having a channel dedicated to teaching its viewers history... mmhkay
@@kadiadekapes8163 you say that because you like the people he talks about
What program do you use to edit/illustrate your videos?
Well this is wildely inaccurate ...
Of all the mistakes in the video I think the one that bothers me most is the one around 4:10 - 4:20 . Yes, Bismarck's diplomacy would have been pretty pointless without an army that could win wars. But Bismarck's diplomacy guaranteed that they didn't have the fight any unnecessary enemies. He kept France neutral until the Franco-Prussian war, he convinced Austria to join Prussia in the invasion of Schleswig-Holstein. He made France the agressor in the Franco-Prussian war which ensured that ther would be no international rebutal again Prussia/Germany.
He convinced Moltke and Wilhelm not to march on Vienna after the Astro-Prussian war to ensure that the Austrians weren't too pissed at Prussia after the war. He was even against a German controlled Alsace-Lorraine, because he knew how much tention it would cause between the two countries.
So Moltke's and von Roon's military ability would have been just as useless without Bismarck. Cause it doesn't matter how good you are if you are fighting againt literally everybody at the same time, which is what Bismarck prevented.
How is that a mistake? You didn't undermine the initial claim, only added to it.
listen to the first 13 seconds with your eyes closed
Lol
5:09 You don't need to declare war, if you annoy your intended enemy enough for him to declare war.
Would’ve like the video, if not for the fact that most info in this video is wrong. Just plain wrong.
uhhhhh like what even is that map at the end
Ow ok now tooky plays hearthstone, confirmed card layout there. ☺️
You are selling the man rather short. He was a genius in his own right. Always putting Prussia in a position to win. He never declared war always made it so that others declared war and if he declared he made sure he was backed by a coalition more powerful than those who would try to intervene. A genius statesman and leader.
Tooky bacc
Why is there the wolga boatman song playing in the background
Blitzkrieg was not a thing this name is a strategy for tanks
He's the only guy that I know, that you've talked about
Great video
A video on Venizelos, the Greek prime minister?

on the pro side we have a quite nice pronounciation
on the con side...
worst maps and worst oversimplification ever
and really? mixing up Bismarck and Hitler?
yea this guy is basically scratching the bottom. in his next video he is propably going to present us how lichtenstein succesfully started and won ww2 and then how the indians came to great britain and enslaved the europeans
Well he wasn't mixing them up, I'm pretty sure it was a joke.
Edit: autocorrect
Why are the borders sloppy?
If you want to look more into Bismarck I recommend the series about Otto Von Bismarck on the Extra Credits channel.
Please do one on Vlad the Impaler
is Ey Ukhnem playing in the backround?
That map at the start was wrong and blitzkreig didn’t exist
I swear if you don't do Napoleon Bornapte,I will drive off a cliff.

Hey guys if you want to know more about bismark extra credits made a series about him
wait, how' he form "Blitzkireg," without tanks, trucks, and planes?
Thats an errror made by the guy talking who apperantly did shit research on Bismarck
3:43 Also, is the Kraut in the Lederhosen enjoying it? Mein Gott...
Shouldn't Moltke have 1 energy?
When you realise a hearthstone card at 4.06
This video should be redone to not me hot air history.
Denmark technically declared war on Prussia, that didn't stop Prussia from testing out new weaponry.
Bismarck did not "decide" that Austria and Prussia were not friends anymore, instead, Prussia wanted to declare a German state which Austria disapproved of, so Austria declared war on Prussia, they won because they had superior weaponry such as the bottom barrel loaded rife which allowed soldiers to prone, better command and strategies.
Bismarck did not invent the "blitzkrieg" in fact, he has little to do with the strategical decisions in the war you're talking about Moltke.
Two things wrong first, blitzkrieg does not describe war such as the Prussians did, by modern definition Blitzkrieg requires mechanized troops.
Second, Blitzkrieg is a propaganda myth from the west, it's just normal modern war, an indirect quote from the OKW of Germany.
France was under pressure because the next king of Spain would be part of the Prussian house, which was why they could Provoke France, how did you fail to mention that?
Because he is a propagandist.
Good comment but as a side note: Austria didnt dissaprove of a German state in general but simply dissaproved of the fact that Prussia was trying to form it and was trying to be the main power. Sentiments among the Austrian public and its government to form an united German state were very high but they wanted the other German states to follow their conditions including Prussia and wanted to be the main power in it ruling with their royal house. But on the other side they also didnt want to give up their non-German territories and gift them to Hungary which most likely would have been the consequence when forming a united German state with them. Its a very complex topic.
*HE CRAMMIN’*
I cannot un-see Otto von Bismarck twerking. I hope you're happy.
fucking hell Blitzkrieg was named by the Allies and was never used to describe anything in Germany concerning war
By far the sexiest video to date.
love your videos! keep up the good work! I learn so much from these lol
Go over to Extra credits they have a way better serias about history there are so many things wrong in this video
I'd play that game
for me as a south german 2:12 is pretty intense
Actually he got his nickname after failed assassination on him. he shooted three times but it only scratch him, when his bodyguard ask him is he alright he only replied "iron chancellor" and walk away.
I live in Bismarck north dakota
now i may be stupid but at the start of the video when he takes about bismark it sounds like hes a talking about hitler
Two minor thing you forgot.
In the battle for Schleswig-Holstein Bismarck and Austria split it. But after some time Bismarck just took over the whole.
Because of this act of war the whole "deutscher bund" (all member states of the split now Germany) declared war on Bismarck.
After Bismarck invaded Austria and won he didn't want anything from them. This lead to a really strong relationships between Prussia and Austria-Hungary.

I´ve got a feeling that when somebody decides to make a movie about Bismarck, they GOTTA get Kevin Spacey to play the part.
