- The music was composed by Dong-jun Lee, and released on February 23, 2004 as a single CD, produced by Yejeon Media in Korea and Avex Trax in Japan. It has 25 tracks,[with seven bonus tracks, including a solo piano and chamber ensemble arrangement of the main theme.

The film became one of the biggest successes in Korean film history up to that time, attracting 11.74 million people to the theatre, beating the previous record holder Silmido.
Plot:
In 1950, in South Korea, shoe-shiner Jin-tae Lee and his 18-year-old old student brother, Jin-seok Lee, form a poor but happy family with their mother, Jin-tae's fiancé Young-shin Kim, and her young sisters. Jin-tae and his mother are tough workers, who sacrifice themselves to send Jin-seok to the university. When North Korea invades the South, the family escapes to a relative's house in the country, but along their journey, Jin-seok is forced to join the army to fight in the front, and Jin-tae enlists too to protect his young brother. The commander promises Jin-tae that if he gets a medal he would release his brother, and Jin-tae becomes the braver soldier in the company. Along the bloody war between brothers, the relationship of Jin-seok with his older brother deteriorates leading to a dramatic and tragic end.

My mother experienced the Korean War while she was a little girl. Many of the stories she told me was what I imagine it to be while watching this film. I've spend many days with her during her illness. During these time I've spent with her was when I really got to know her and I am blessed to have been with my mom during this sad period. Love hck
One of the greatest soundtracks i`ve ever heard.
I still listen to this, and remember pieces of the movie.....and such a good movie about brotherhood. I always listen to 2:19 it`s so emotional.

One of the best war movies one could see. Heart-rending in every way. And by God, the soundtrack makes u celebrate and resent mortality at the same time... One of the best soundtrack ever in a movie, along with such great immortals as Enzio Morricone or Hans Zimmer!
this movie truly brought me to tears, the pains of war can never truly be forgotten, only left as a scar on the mind of its survivors, it'd had been 50 years...50 long years and he finally gave that pen back to his brother.

They were both South Koreans, but the plot takes quite a twist. If you aren't bothered by spoilers I'd be happy or explain.
+Awsomocosmic i think he meant Korea as a whole. There really was no North and South Korea prior to this war. It was the Russian/Chinese and US influence that caused the Korean divide. As in north/south brother because we are all the same people tbh.
North or South Koreans all share common bloodline, history, and ancestry. Koreans are one big family, as my grandfather once said. We're all inseparable people.

My favorite Korean movie. The fights of Free Chinese/Taiwanese, S Korean, S Vietnamese, and Ukrainian are the same fight. Republic of China was my grandfather’s country. S Korean flag reflects Taoism of Zhou Confederacy.
