Ross, thanks for posting this video set. As a newcomer to watercolor, for the past 8 months I've scoured the internet and have downloaded about 3,000 pages of tutorials and dozens of videos. Yours is beyond a doubt the best I've ever seen. Your explanation, your style of presentation is nearly flawless. I've learned so much! What I would like to see, however, is a complete recitation of all colors and equipment that you will use as well as a way to download a line drawing. Thanks again!
Ross, wow! I have seen a lot of tutorials but yours blow them all away. The level of detailed instruction, close up views and examples you give, not only of what you did, but why and how takes your tutorials to a master level of instruction! It is not often you find a tutorial by someone with a true gift of teaching and I am deeply grateful to have found yours. Thank you sir for sharing your love and skill for painting with us and thank you so much for taking the time to give us a truly useful lesson! I am looking forward to learning as much as I can from you. :)
I've been doing watercolor for 28 years, but I still found your video refreshing and fun. Since my roots long ago were the New Jersey area, your accent was really fun too! (the words "watah. splattah," and a few others made me giggle a bit. On a serious note, thank you for taking the time and patience with your informative and helpful video for people interested in watercolor basics.
These are the best tutorials on water-painting I have watched. Ross's commentary, pace, instructions & techniques are perfect. I have been taking classes but this has helped me hugely. Thank you so much. Bessie Segal.
Hi Joni - That is great news! So glad that you have found my videos useful to you as you get into your classes. Thanks very much for letting me know, and thanks for watching! -Ross
Hi There! I have never painted before, let alone watercolour!! Was absolutely amazed that i could produce a picture that good. Thank you so much for inspiring me, please make more videos! You are such a good painter, and more especially an exceptional teacher.
I'm very thankful you have made this complete tutorial available for no charge. Since I'm just getting interested in watercolor painting coming from a calligraphy and crafting background, I find it so inspiring that an artist would share so much information without my having to take a class to see if I want to pursue this. I've learned so much that I feel confident playing with the medium enough to know if I want to invest in classes if my experiments warrant further study.
Now, you are an instructor who knows how to teach! I have an art degree and got so tired of professors just putting a brush in my hand and leaving the room. And, even with the profound ADD with which I have struggled for a lifetime, this video is clear, orderly, and step-by-step understandable and easy to follow. Beautiful job. Thanks.
Riveting! A huge thank you for unmasking (pun intended) the mysteries behind beautiful flower painting. I never thought I could even begin to tackle them. Off to my paints! You're the best. Many Many Thanks and Happy Day to you
I am still trying to improve on my Hibiscus following your tutoring carefully I think it is beautifully done and the step by step is fantastic I think this one may be it I dare not tell you how many I have done thank you 🙏 I have learned a lot about handling water colour you are the Best ,!!!!!
Most of the videos that I have watched for the first time have been most exhilarating , I believe Ross Barbera is exceptional and I know something clicked when I viewed his videos and I have learned a great deal. Thank you for being so precise and detailed. I will be ordering your videos without a doubt.
such beautiful work and excellent instruction - following your guidance ANYONE could do watercolor painting - thanks so much for taking the TIME to share this with us - I know everyone is as appreciative as I am
I have hibiscus done twice, following you - one for my friend and one for myself. I really enjoyed it! And of course my two flowers didn't look alike. Thank you for inspiration!
This was a wonderful presentation. Thank you for taking the steps to clarify how these techniques are applied. You've simplified the use of watercolors to a level where I can feel I can actually paint something with ease and confidence. Your detailed instructions are just what a beginner needs. Thank you!
You were my professor many years ago... I have continued to use many of the skills and tips which you taught me. Finding this video when I am just breaking into watercolour is just perfect. Thanks so much.
This is a great demonstration. You have been real patient and kind to let us view the secrets of such outstanding demonstration. I am eternally grateful
Ross, your instructions with the beautiful visual aides are the most helpful watercolor directions I think I have ever enjoyed. My sincere thanks for sharing with us! E.B.
Hi Ross... I just found your channel yesterday and I'm absolutely a beginner with water color painting. I've watched several others' videos, but I have to say.. This 3-part video on painting the red hibiscus was the very BEST I've watched so far! You are very good at explaining and showing how to do the techniques. Thank you very much!
This is one of THE BEST how to paint watercolor flowers I’ve yet to see & you made it all so easy to understand & mimic.. I’ve still a ways to go but you have set me on the right track!
I wish you were my art teacher...what a great teacher you must be....so precise and clear about each step along the way...I learnt so much in that short lesson..Thank you.. I will continue to follow your videos....Marg.
Amazing demonstration. Thank you so much. As a beginner it is wonderful to be able to watch a demo that is so clearly explained. I have learnt so much by watching this.
I am a "newbie " to watercolor and appreciate so much the instruction and quality of your art. So many nuggets of information! If I adopted some of your organization I might have a little more order to my "mess"! Ha.
You're flower tutorials are wonderful! I've learned a lot from you. You explain everything in great detail and that is a sign of a great teacher! I look forward to more watercolor videos. I truly check you out every other day to see if you've posted anything new in watercolors! Keep up the good work! thanks!
WOW .... that is so Detailed and you work very neat .... i have heard of this technique but had not ever got to take a class and learn it. wet only the area that you are flowing the paint in makes so much sense. Also ... i love the CLEAN water from that bottle on your paints ... i do that in face painting and also thought that if you did not and used the water that you clean your brush with it muddies the color .... thank for that tip ... i am excited to learn from you ... a true blessing :)
realisticart I painted in oils for years and had a good grasp of it but after developing cancer thought I ought to go to something less toxic (w/c). I've tried and tried on my own to get the look you have shown us in your videos and have become frustrated with my lack of success. NOW I know how it's done and I'm so indebted to you. Will be watching for your new releases in the weeks to come.
I've painted with acrylics and oils but always felt intimidated by the nuanced techniques involved with watercolors. I'm going to get to work. Thanks Ross!
(2nd post) ... i ran out of room, but i really cant wait to learn How your water color art is so vivid --- love the finished piece.... Great JOB and again thanks
The most productive lesson that I've seen yet - and for that reason, I will try my hand at this in the next couple days! I'm taking a water color class in a couple weeks, but my interest has been pushing me to why wait!?....and thus I found this lesson. Thank you - this was very very detailed enough to allow me to venture forward on my own. I'll be following you closely. Juliana :-)
Hi, FINALLY, Watercolor makes SENSE!! Thank you, thank you!!! Do you have anymore tutorials or books or DVDs? I am hungry for more!!! Do you draw freehand??? You are OUTSTANDING!!!!
The stamen areas are very small, so although it is personal preference, I do prefer to paint tiny areas like this first; then mask them out after they thoroughly dry and paint the adjacent areas. It will work both ways, but I have found my way to be easier. Thanks for your question!
I am sure this artist wants you to paint the painting he is doing so that you will learn easily. I soooo loved learning how to paint when I was your age and now do it every day. Patricia

Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all! I want to share an idea that I do when silk painting. The process you explained where you cover the already painted and dried parts with masking fluid is one way of batik silk painting. I thought that was neat! Instead of scraping out the red to get the white around the 5 red "dots" at the end of the stamen(?), when you are applying the masking fluid include the white around each one that's already there. God Bless!!!
