- I had sooooo much fun restoring this pair.
One of my favorite Mid Century designs is the Paul Conti 6250 by G PLAN.
This chair was featured in a James Bond movie called 'Dr No' in the 1960's, which then gave it its Iconic status in Mid Century Modern Design.
In this slightly lengthy video I strip it down to its bare bones then built it back up.
Lets not waste anymore time and press play.

Just one question, why so many staples on each layer, when there are 3 layers? OK 2... Would the buttons not have tied onto the springs at the back?

It was only seeing your new video, it reminded me I hadn't replied to your reply, on my comment about the sound of the needle. I was basically thrown on an industrial sewing machine from the age of 8ish. I'd shown an interest, we had one in the back room as mum occasionally worked from home, and also made my sister, me and herself all matching clothes, this was the 70's lol
It then turned into a family business, with a workforce of about 40 sewers plus others, eg packing, pressing etc.
Sounded like a new needle, but maybe a little thick hahaha sorry much love Jacq in the U.K
Oh nearly forgot, friends bought a chair, I'm sure it was the same one, and footstool, from Facebook for £50, other friends of theirs' asked them did they realise what they had.... apparently, it was worth a fortune, in the thousands. It was leather and tan/brown from what I can remember. Their friend kept offering them lots of money to buy it, but they wouldn't because of the comfort hahaha

I used a few extra staples to flatten the layers, they were getting pretty thick, especially when adding the piping which is essentially another 2 layers.
You have a good set of ears there, you were right, the needle did have a burr from sewing over chain zips.
I actually brought this chair back with me from the UK. I was set up in oxford in 2012, driving around the country side looking for amazing scandi and Mid Century furniture to restore and ultimately bring back to NZ. D
Great video. I own one of these classic chairs. When I tried to find replacement parts (new bushing for lower seat mechanism) I discovered the small company that used to make this had not survived the covid lockdowns.... G Plan could not refer me to any supplier of replacement parts. If you can, much appreciated. Where is your shop located?
