I spent alot of mental energy and time creating something that is more than just an idea and videos.
Im like an adult ADHD magpie who absolutely fizzes over, building, finding and restoring vintage pieces, innovation and watching other amazing people do the same.
So this Channel is created to support my business's and love of idea making. If I can stay focused you will see me working on clients furniture, lighting and art.........hunting and finding amazing vintage designs......... creating and making cool things with CNC, 3D printers and other epic modern tech.
Im a big/small kid and am soooo thankful to do this every day!!
Shortly I will upload a PATREON and a WEBSITE to compliment my INSTAGRAM.
This information will be updated when my channel grows and develops.

The chair that tried to BREAK ME! I was confused & Frustrated.
I love every project I work on because it s a journey of transformation. I get them when they need help and I give them back looking totally different.
But this chair.....WTF.
This chair had the most convoluted and unnecessary amount of patterning and wasted technique.
It nearly broke me.

Mid Century Modern Wingback + Footstool ........ by G PLAN

I had sooooo much fun restoring this pair. One of my favorite Mid Century designs is the Paul Conti 6250 by G PLAN. This chair was featured in a James Bond movie called 'Dr No' in the 1960's, which then gave it its Iconic status in Mid Century Modern Design. In this slightly lengthy video I strip it down to its bare bones then built it back up. Lets not waste anymore time and press play. D

This project was a challenge!! Welcome to the longest video edit and biggest upload I've created. Everyday that I wake up I'm sooo freakn thankful I get to do this. Restoring vintage furniture and bringing clients ideas to life all the while living and playing in New Zealand is a dream. Doing it from my home in Turangi is the icing on the cake. This restoration took alot out of me. It was in pr...
ONE song ... ONE project ... ONE day

I've come up with what I think is a pretty cool idea!! Every week I usually have one or two short but very cool projects to do. And let's be honest, stretching them into a 15 to 20min edit is pretty crass! But they still have nuggets in them so ive decided to do an entire edit within the duration of a song. Should be fun........ let's find out.

I think it would be easier to start from scratch to build one.! Awesome job. ❤
I love the music in your videos, dude. What's in this one?
I think the wadding is called "shoddy".
Can I ask a question, I have a simular desk, but the rolling part is missing, so if I close my drawers, the are locked. I need to make a new rolling thingy. I'm not going to repair the hole desk because it's for my art atelier silver smithing. But how do I know how long the rol piece had to be and how have the, so when it rolls open tje drawers will unlock. If you need more information, I would be glad to give it to you. I'm a woman on my own, so I'm barly able to lift the top of the desk.🤦♀️
In Australia they have a lifetime warranty. The mechanism is tough, I've got one that gets mostly daily use and is as good as new after more than 15 years. Went back to the distributor once for new foam. You did an awesome job with that
Those pleats can be a pain lol, but they got some extra cushioning. When pleating/gathering, try using your snips/nippers, un-pickers, or an open pair of scissors, if your brave or a nutter, which, I think, you may have a little of the latter in you haha I wasn't sure of the fabric at first. Old school, with a modern twist?!?! I really wish those cutters were around, when I was making wedding dresses ffs lol Also a walking foot, it only came out/popular when I had to stop sewing, how do they help? xJacq
@@red-inmy-50s-temper-dont-match why thank you....I think it's 'I'm a bit of a nutter'. Have you ever sewed your finger?
@@DMWinterburn Oh yes, quite a few times, I still have the end of a needle stuck in the end of my finger, from 32 years ago haha My mum said you had to sew 3 to be a professional sewer, I've done more than my 3 lol
I didn’t see anything that went wrong or frustrating in this video though?
Edited out the days of swearing and mumbling to myself.... basically looking like a madman
Turned out looking phenomenal! Lovely colours in the fabric, are florals making a comeback? Even though the patterning gave you some trouble you made it look easier than it was!
Aah you're too kind and thank you. Florals and full prints have been sneaking back into trend for a wee while. In this case my client was brave and excited for something fun and interesting. Her wish was my command.
Hey, I know how you felt !! I had the most wonderful Lazyboy Swivel Rocker I found at a yard sale and gave $2 for. It was comfy and I loved it. A couple of years went by and I decided I wanted to reupholster it, never having done one like this before.....it was a disaster from the first. I ended up having a chair in pieces for 6 months, partially reupholstered, in my living room. I got so frustrated I ended up throwing it away. I SO loved that chair....and now I'm afraid to tackle another one. I simply bit off more than I could chew and was arrogant enough to not take as much care as I needed, but you have done it a little differently. Shows what a real professional can do! Thanks from a newly humbled fake reupholsterer! Wonderful mastery of that recliner!😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You made me smile....'alot' just knowing someone else feels my pain, with this chair!
I've just added you to my list of subscriptions to furniture restoration channels. Very nice work. And I like your music too.
Aah thank you. I appreciate you jumping on board. D
You are part architect, part artist, part engineer, part tailor, and your work is impressive. I wish i had watched this before i tried to reupholster a chair! It was a fail, miserably, but when i feelbrave enough again ill review this video....for which i thank you!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
HHMM I didn't get any notifications, just by luck I checked to see if you had a new video's. I'd better re-do the bell thingy. Loved the video btw X
Very Classic! ❤
How exciting! I love brand new journeys 👍
One piece of furniture had horsehair bonded in latex for a filler. The bonding cane apart.
The design is possibly by Jean-Michele Frank, a French furniture designer. His lounge chairs are boxy with a slant much like this. Ours were upholstered in aligator, and from the 30's.
So glad to be around to watch your channel grow. More videos pleaaaseee
Thank you buddy. I'm in the middle of editing a project that tested for sure. Uploading in a week or so I reckon.
@@DMWinterburn can't wait
Your work is impeccable and I appreciate how well this is edited! 🎉
Your too kind, thank you for saying that. I do actually enjoy the process. D
I love how this is so candid. It is just a camera capturing a man talking to himself while he is working.
You're so right!
Beautiful job!
Thank you for that. It was the kind of project that I think anybody can do with minimal help. D
@@DMWinterburn no, you make it look easy... I struggled greatly recovering a mere footstool, and I have a nice ottoman to recover but the tufting on top stops me from attempting it...
@@shell1951 ooh yes tufting is another element. You got this!!!
Nice project, great skills with stylish music to boot! Nice 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👸🏾🇬🇧
Thank you. I appreciate your appreciation. D
Good to see someone not wasting fabric, too many video's show pattern pieces slapped in the middle of fabric, and the grain lines running in all different directions! Don't get me started on cutting velvet haha Impressive sewing skills there Mr, nice topstitching!! Those underneath corners, might have benefited from a 45 degree curve sewn in? maybe...
Why thank you. I appreciate it. Laying and cutting is important to me. I dont see the need to fill up waste bins and remnant bins. Thanks for noticing and yes I should have 45-ed but I tend to cut a few corners when the budget is low. D
@@DMWinterburn Have you ever made clothing?
@@red-inmy-50s-temper-dont-match it's funny you ask that I've been thinking about making some clothing lately. Yes I started off in the rag trade with a skate/snow/surf label in the late 90s and in the early 2000s it transitioned into skydiving gear and clothing. D
Wish to heck I had a Series 2 or 3 Land Rover. I’d do the seats whether they needed it or not. 😉
I feel ya. While doing this project I went down the rabbit whole looking for a land rover to restore. I used to have a 1984 v8 109.

Mr. Winterburn, please tell me where I might purchase an entire lower mechanism for this chair, a match for the original. Much appreciated.
Oh hello there. I live in New Zealand so we have to repair and replace parts down here. So im not sure where you can buy a replacement mechanism. D
Great video. I own one of these classic chairs. When I tried to find replacement parts (new bushing for lower seat mechanism) I discovered the small company that used to make this had not survived the covid lockdowns.... G Plan could not refer me to any supplier of replacement parts. If you can, much appreciated. Where is your shop located?
Ripping off fab-lock with your bare hands, and quoting The Count, truly you are the coolest Mo-Fo on You Tube. Oh and the chair wasn't bad either. Another top job sir.
Hey there Russell, how are mate. My hands have skin like a roman leather sandle. I'm pretty sure they could stop a bullet!
Stunning
A dressmakers dream! What a fabulous colour and finish! I'd love to have a go at scraping. Love the finished table❤💚 oh and the last green chair, I forgot to comment, feeling a bit like a stalker hahaha It reminds me of my Dr's when I was little❣Love the shape and everything.
Another fabulous job!! I could watch your video's all day!! Just one question, why so many staples on each layer, when there are 3 layers? OK 2... Would the buttons not have tied onto the springs at the back? I nearly shit myself when you were cutting the seat wadding out, I thought it was the fabric lol It was only seeing your new video, it reminded me I hadn't replied to your reply, on my comment about the sound of the needle. I was basically thrown on an industrial sewing machine from the age of 8ish. I'd shown an interest, we had one in the back room as mum occasionally worked from home, and also made my sister, me and herself all matching clothes, this was the 70's lol It then turned into a family business, with a workforce of about 40 sewers plus others, eg packing, pressing etc. Sounded like a new needle, but maybe a little thick hahaha sorry much love Jacq in the U.K Oh nearly forgot, friends bought a chair, I'm sure it was the same one, and footstool, from Facebook for £50, other friends of theirs' asked them did they realise what they had.... apparently, it was worth a fortune, in the thousands. It was leather and tan/brown from what I can remember. Their friend kept offering them lots of money to buy it, but they wouldn't because of the comfort hahaha
Oh Hello there. Thanks for tucking into my latest video. I used a few extra staples to flatten the layers, they were getting pretty thick, especially when adding the piping which is essentially another 2 layers. You have a good set of ears there, you were right, the needle did have a burr from sewing over chain zips. I actually brought this chair back with me from the UK. I was set up in oxford in 2012, driving around the country side looking for amazing scandi and Mid Century furniture to restore and ultimately bring back to NZ. D
Haven't finished the video yet but I had to ask before I forgot. What language were you counting in? I am new here, sorry Iif you have already answered this question. Also wanted to say it is incredible how much work it took to just deconstruct the chair, and you made it look so easy. Sure sign of a professional.
Hey there. that language is called Te Reo which is the Maori language. Thank you for calling me professional ;-)
Excellent video, iconic chair! Thanks for sharing the process!
Thanks mate. I enjoyed every bit of it. D
Wow!! What a super nice restoration!! Very well donne!!
Thank you very much! see you in the next one. D

You should see it in person!! oh Yeah that's right.....

Nicely done, but no Little Dragon?
Hey there. Thank you That was a fun resto. I'm trying out the UA-cam music library. I gotta say its a struggle to find free music that's as uplifting and as fun as our Little Dragons!!
This was such a joy to watch..thanks for filming and sharing!
Nice work .
Spray day What did you spray? Shelac?
Fast drying pre catalyzed single pack lacquer. 30% gloss. D
Bellisimo!!! 😍
nice job. turned out great.
First time watching you, I'm impressed with your reupholstry skills but extremely disappointed that your client didn't spring for new foam and a more unique fabric. It looks like something from Big Lots or the thrift store. I'll have to check out another of your videos.
Thanks for watching that was a long vid. I don't mind too much as it allows people to not be priced out of keeping fantastic old furniture alive and in use. Some of my client's want beautifull fully restored show pieces and some want to use everyday. D
Great channel. New suscriber from Argentina
The sofa looks amazing. I was hoping to see an art deco pattern fabric like the original but it still came out fabulous.
Wow, that looks so lovely! You’ve given it a new lease of life and I bet your client loved it. Fantastic job ❤🇬🇧
I mean it could have been a nice sofa, fabric is so ordinary...
Such annoying music, and way to loud :( a shame cause I loved the rest! Had to watch it on silent lol
Thanks for watching it though. I appreciate that much, even if the music was annoying. See you in the next vid. D
