PJs: "Am I a joke to you?"
they are to me, they just look wrong lol
I’ll be honest, I have two PJ’s now (a mexiFender and a Spector) and I really like the ~combo~ but that’s it.
My first bass was an all black Fender PJ bass I got at Sam Ash for like $200
Totally worth the price and DAYUM it plays nicely
Love pjs best sounding, looking, and playing basses
PJ basses have no identity, sorry...
Day 7 of asking for Les Claypool’s Behs tone.
Day 9 and we're on.
@@DannySapko thank you Danny you have just made my day.
day 7 of two this
day 9 E z
@@DannySapkosubbing so I can hear it!
I love clay pools tone
Day 8!!!
See ya blokes tomorrow.
I think the tone is there but its just a little thin
Yeah since P pickups are basically humbuckers they have a boost in mids and a lower boost in lows, with less high end (hence using higher resistance pots on humbucker guitars)
but better headphones on. its almost identical.
@@fraggan753 The P is definitely chunky asf in comparison, but the J has this delicious mid grind to it.
@@fraggan753 almost! but the P is somewhat 'thicker'.
It's like, what's your flavour? P solidarity or the grind of singles. I know that blending P and J together isn't my flavour but I like them a lot separately.
My philosophy is just buy all the basses
Love that Dead Ringers intro and JJ Burnel's sound. It needs your critique Danny!
A P bass Knocks the wall down. A jazz bass just knocks on the door.
The P-Bass played with a pick has THE tone for me, snarl and punch with just a pleasing "dwump"
Nailed it.
P-bass guy here.
Not really.
@phipschi4255 my
opinion isn't up for debate.
The jazz bass single coil doesn’t have that sort of growl
No!
@@bassman494Place a comment and it’s never rhetorical idiot.
I'm not a bass player, but always watch these, hoping that one day I'll actually hear a considerable difference 😂
Stranglers ❤
I love the sound of my p-bass I also love the sound of my jazz bass but for what I do p-bass is way more fun it distorts so nice and drop tunes like crazy
.....works mate. U r a fantastic beeehs player...... wish u well out there 🌬🎸greets from Germany
Love hearing you play the Stranglers
Yeah,The Stranglers -Dead Ringer!
Nothing beats p bass with a pick ❤
in this video. a jazz bass with a pick brother :-D
It still didn't sound like JJ Burnells growling P Behs tawn...close not quite.
No thanks !!!! A pick????
C’mon…..
I think the Stingray is the best bass to play with a pick - you can really ‘dig’ into them and they have a broader tone that suits the attack - just my opinion of course and you know what people say about opinions! I prefer to play the P Bass with two fingers as it is so comfortable to walk across the strings and the tone is very even whereas the Stingray produces more midrange that the pick can really resolve!
P bass, played with a pick - completely, 100 pct agree!
Or, idk, some of you may say I’m crazy, but what if we took a Jazz bass and put a Precision bass pickup in the neck. The best of both worl- oh wait
Why not put 2 P pickups?
If that's what you want, buy a PJ bass body and a J bass neck. They fit together just fine. That's what I play.
PJ’s are also a thing
Totally agree I have both of them but I prefer my JazzBass
Me too
Likewise.
Behs 🎸
It sounds more beefy and has a bigger punch. Jazz bass sounds more soft and has the basic jazzier tone.
No
jazz bass sounds jazzier... noooo... really?...
You don’t say
most ppl play the bridge on the jazz bass because of jaco. i think it sounds better with a mixture of both pick ups and some gain. it can sound like a humbucker bass.
Its the hum cancel of the split P
I love this channel so much.
And I don’t even play behs
This has quickly become my favorite bass channel. Greetings from Indianapolis, Indiana!
Mark hoppus signature jazz bass only has a p bass pickup
Whats your point?
@@phipschi4255 getting a p bass sound pn a jazz bass body?
@@FenderFanboy91yup I was waiting for someone to mention Marks Bass
It honestly still sounds like a jazz to me, but that’s only because there is something about the configuration of a p behs pick up that’s just… crunches
The jazz will always make more string noise
JJ Burnel playing a jazz behs?
I think not.
Dead ringer by the stranglers...fuck yeah... JJ burnel rules!
Yep, cracking job!
Matt Sharp’s bass tone
He used both pickups on his jazz bass though?
@@phipschi4255he uses a precision
*Behs
Please can you do Andy Rourke's behs tone
I second this
Name that bass riff!
Dead ringer

Nailed again Danny lad.,👍
Great riffing man☝🏽✨
Awesome video 😊❤
i wish fender made pj basses but instead of a p bass with a jazz bass bridge pickup, it’s a jazz bass with a p bass neck pickup
😂😂😂👍. Bravo!
My #1 BEHS is a partscaster PJ bass with a J bass neck. Best bass I've ever owned, and it only cost me $400 used. Even has nice aftermarket pickups. I love used instruments.
Nice behs
I can't tell the difference, and I'm perfectly happy with the P tone I get rolling off the bridge pickup on my J. I get to keep the slim neck profile and don't have to buy another behs...er, I mean bass.
In my experience, by knocking out some 400-700Hz you’ll get that Jazz neck pickup to sound very close to a Precision, but the main drawback is that bloody 60Hz hum. Solution? Buy one of each! (...and then several more of each lol)
or a noise gate or something
@Kriegter Yeah that is one solution but my theory goes bass = fun, therefore 2 basses = more fun
I absolutely did not need to read this.
Lindy Fralin pickups, take care of the hum, and have one of the best sounding pickups out there
Rather save my money for more guitars thx
Oh my! My first bets was an Eros Jazz copy and yes I tried to make it sound like Stranglers' JJ Burnel the year that song was a hit. Thx!
I’ll follow this tutorial since I have no money to buy a new one 😂
Thanks
Excellent.
Nice Dead Ringer cover.
Whats the song name?
It's literally called Dead Ringer. The Stranglers are the band that wrote it.
@@muffinmcmuffin9849 oooh. Sorry lad
It's fine.
Can you do a video on why everyone overlooks PJs?
close enuff 👍🏻
Great again
00:20 that tone is like david ellefson's tone, i like it
The stranglers
It’ll do 👍
Paul McCartney's jazz bass tone please.
I wanna know how he get that chunky tone
Both pickups, flatwound strings, string mutes, pick.
Flat wounds and maybe laying his palm near the bridge!!!
@@patrickpeterson2174 Photos of white album sessions show that his Jazz Bass had metal pickup and bridge covers, so muting was automatic :) And he probably picked in front of the "neck" pickup as well because of that.
The jazz bass is also all over the Band on the run album!
Can you get away with only having one? Yes it’s called a jaguar
Peaches!
Dead Ringer... they are similar tho mate.
Makes me think Rain Sylvan from Ghost's live tone almost. Maybe try a video trying to get his tone if you can, really good player
I actually saw a P bass with the exact jazz bass pickups in the back and it was a 5 string too
So that’s a 5 string PJ
Jazz can do it all 💪
i own a jazz behs that is the exact same color as yours !!
If you have a JJ Bass with preamp that features a mid selector like a Sire V7 you can make it sound more P-Pass than an actual P-Bass. Do the following:
Tone Knobe rolled back to about 50%, if you have a pickup blend knob put it all the way to the neck pickup and back by about 10%, if you have two volume knobs instead (one for each pickup) run the bridge pickup on 100% and turn the bridge pickup all the way down and raise it back again by about 5-10%, use your mid-selector and select circa the higher mids and boost them by as much as you can and fiddle around with it until you're satisfied, also boost the low end by about 20%. You should now have a MASSIVE P-Bass sound! In addition, pluck with your right hand near the highest fret or at least on the neck pickup to intensify further. A low and gnarly string setup can increase the P-Bass sound even more! Works for Flatwounds just as for round wounds (but is a matter of preference). Try it and let me know what you think!
To solve this problem I bought a bass with the classic p bass pickups and one jazz pickup so I could change the tone at the turn of a knob but this is great for someone who has already bought a jazz bass.
Yes , If you own A Fender Squire PJ Bass you can!!
🎉 SMOKE CRACK 🎉
Cool!
What a riff😈
Haven't I seen you somewhere round before?
Wasn't it you said you was into changing the law?
@@bitlobutlergnort822 wasn't it you running around proud of being poor?
You can get a J-bass to sound like a P-bass without touching the amp. Just turn back pickup off, the tone all the way down and the front pickup a little bit back from all the way up. TA-DAAAHHH!
I've seen Larry Klein play a solo as part of a jazz band with a P-bass but as for the other way round, try putting some flatwounds on the J behs and playing a Jackson 5 groove.
Peaches/Stranglers callout, nice
Dead Ringer, actually. Peaches is similar but different.
I got the aireifle joke lol poor mates across the pond 😢
Dear ringer? No.
Admirable effort, it’s very close, but the P just has more weight and a rounder tone. The J is a great bass, but for that trademark tone ( and feel) go for the P
I had that squier precision as a Classic Vibe, but sold it on ebay a few years ago. Regretted it ever since.......😢
Think it’s still not quite there. Sounds grittier, but still like a Jazz bass to me.
I wanna just hear some of your grooves. Plus a jaco tone video
I put a series/ parallel pust pull master volume and a pickup blend control. With the blend at 50/50 and the pickups in series, has the balls of the p bass, with a little extra sweetness.
I have a Yamaha where it has the same settings as a jazz just the neck pickup is split like a p-bass.
I have both, simple answer is yes you can, surprised me how close you can get it given the different pickups, still prefer my Nate Mandell over the Jazz though
Pj bass: 👀
Bloody Jazz BEHS!
YAY FOR BASS
You Strangled that P BEHS! 🫡
Very close, i think the p is a little brighter on the higher strings bc of the the split coil. The j has a more even sound
PJ is king
"Close but no cigar" as they used to say.
Beeeeeeeehsssss
Behs
I'd say that worked.
My P bass has a jazz pickup at the bridge
Love that necklace! 😂
Most important is whether the audience hears it or not :-). Comes close enough
The ending sound sounded close but the PBass sound wasn’t a punchy and low as PBasses usually are. The example was a high thin punch that you could get on a Jazz bass just buy adding some mids and using a pick.
If you want both, get a PJ. Problem solved.😎
Jazz basses have a pickup on the back? To pick up belly notes??
Serial wiring on JB is really good option.
Close-ish but not fully
Chris Squire!
I was told you can get close enough with J that you don't need to get a P.
Geddy Lee Behs Tone when?
If you also roll the neck pick up back just slightly it's even close
Having labels on each of the B E H S would help
You should do Rex browns behs tone
It's a really good facsimile, just missing some of the wooly growl
Jazz bass with S-1 switch is probably can sound like P-bass
I have had great success mimicking other sounds by cutting the tone knob on my jazz bass and Stagg fretless down to maybe 2-3/10 and running it through a DOD Overdrive pedal, the former getting a warm and woody, albeit less punchy, P-bass tone and the latter pretending it's an upright with proper finger muting. Geht Cree-ehtive!
