A great video Chris another piece of Dundee history destroyed by fire at least you have captured footage that will be preserved for generations to come
Indeed, something quite spooky about watching the mechanics of lifts - counterweights and all the rest of it. I remember my Grandfather used to work at the Glasgow Herald and in the early 80s, when they were moving to a new site, the old offices were practically derelict, with only 3 or 4 people finishing the clearance. The old lifts were still on and I spent the afternoon riding up and down. Pity Chris didn't manage to peep in the old lift machine room.
Hi Chris wow it's years since I shopped in Robertsons! Went there in the 1980,s lol used to walk past every day when at nursing college up the conchie in 1973!you couldn't get into the custom house as someone reported the door being open to the council as they saw the video I would love to go round that custom house It was to be developed into a hotel but nothing has happened since Sure you will find places to explore Enjoy your shows Merry Christmas when it arrives! Catherine
Interesting to see. I’ve never been inside myself and never will as unfortunately the building is on fire as I type this. It’s a shame I’m sure it looked lovely in it’s prime. 😢
Yea it's such a waste all the stuff left to rott. I did think about the old Dens road market. Would love to explore it. I Would just need to know if, and where, its already opened first, by someone else. I will never break and enter into anything, for an exploration.
Something quite eerie about abandoned buildings - a bit like abandoned railway stations that were closed decades ago. Pity you didn't check out the lift machine room. Maybe there are some abandoned railway stations / lines around Dundee you could check out with Kian. A flavour of Dundee (and surrounding area) of old...
Hi Gary, Yea it was quite eerie ,especially the basement. I'll have to search around for abandoned railways stations nearby though. Not sure if any around about Dundee

Used to be fascinated by the old-fashioned cage-style lift they used to have in there.

Honestly devastated that another iconic listed building has now gone.
It's a horrible way for the old listed building to end

Last night the whole building was destroyed by fire. Shame. My step Dad worked at Robertson’s as an upholsterer and carpet fitter in the mid 70’s.
It was Purposley "Destroyed" By The Governments.

Real shame there's a ton of period features rotting away. Could you have a explore of the old dens Rd market?
Yea it's such a waste all the stuff left to rott.

Not sure but think there is a boat in the basement of that building waytogochris
Interesting Chris, you go into some right places! Did you ever shop in there when it was still open?
Ha ha! I was just typing this before you answered my question at about 1:20, LOL :)
Yea I bought a dining table and chairs back around 2001. Still have the dining table.
Built to last!!!
Shame someone set fire to that building. Hope the basement wasn't affected.
