- Hey Horse Lovers! Today we are taking the horses to the beach!!! I cannot wait to show you how beautiful this ride was. Riding our marvelous horses on the beach was exhilarating and full of equestrian adventure. We are riding at Silver Lake State Park on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. This ride is put on 1x a year by the DNR in the month of November. In this video we will walk, trot, canter, and gallop the horses along the beach and you'll get to feel the pure bliss and adrenaline rush of the horses hoofbeats in the sand. We will also let the horses splash, play, and drink out of this gorgeous freshwater lake. We had such an incredible experience, and I am truly thankful we had the opportunity to go this year! I was the little girl who mowed a neighbors lawn and took my quarter pay to the L.A. River stables and rented a horse for an hour of joyful dreams of being cowgirl. And now here I am on UA-cam riding on a lakeshore with you-all so many decades later. I feel your joy, freedom of wind on my face and many kindness heart felt expressions that more than mirror my Spirit and definitely enjoying the breezy wind tickling my eyelashes. It would be a dream come true for this 73 year old woman too! Due to various circumstances beyond my control, I haven't been on a horse in probably 45+ years. Watching you ride so easily just makes me want to get back in the saddle again! I don't know if I could even get on a horse anymore much less stay on.

These horses have such defined personalities. They walk with assurance. Jiminny Cricket exudes what we called in the military command presence. He is in charge and knows it. Drink up, boys. It's a big lake.
You smile a lot Shae, but this smile was a burst of joy from the inside out and beaming. What a wonderful day for both you and Jimminy. That would be like old times when it was just you and he, riding free. Yes, how beautiful and stimulating that must have been. Your students certainly will never forget it. I never really thought about how, as viewers, we can get drawn into believing we are actually on the ride with you. I always feel like I’ve had the wind in my hair as I’ve been riding along with you. What a great day of riding Lake Michigan’s sandy beach shoreline. A rather nice long stretch of a wide beach. I could feel the wind and fresh air. The horses looked really fit, alert and had great stamina.
You should be very proud of how vibrant and successful your riding and training programs have been developing in the last five years, Shae!! To see how strong, upright, healthy and happy the riders are along with the horse they bonded with today is inspiring! What a great, beautiful day to remember for everyone!
First thing I noticed today, when you were doing the introduction of this video was your new saddle on Jimminy! And then you confirmed what my brain saw. 🥰
I loved watching the cool down walk to the staging area and how content the horses were and the same of your students.
The last delightful picture for me, was the last scene with the horses loaded and all their faces poking out the windows looking bright eyed, alert, and happy.
I believe they truly loved this healthy, controlled stimulating experience with their human companions. And Vice-versa.

Love love love the ride on the beach! Everyone and even the horses were having fun! I grew up in Minnesota with my ponies and horses and we would take them for swims in the lakes. I am enjoying all the different types of rides you take your students and horses on. I want to thank you Shae and Kyle for taking me along on your rides. I'm in my 70's and thoroughly enjoy each video. Love to you both and have a wonderful and blessed day. ❤❤
I can't believe that water is actually lake water it almost seems like the ocean with a little bit of waves. It looks like all the horses and their humans are having a great time. All your horses look good but then they always look good. The best to you and yours!
Yeah, we love our Great Lakes! I grew up on Lake Michigan and it was heaven, even in winter because the ice caves were so awesome. It looks like the ocean, but it's fresh, unsalty water and shark-free, lol.
Shark free is definitely a plus. Is Lake Michigan part of the Great Lakes? I grew up on Long Island, NY and now live in Massachusetts which I love better than Long Island. I did live in St. Louis for two years and South Florida for 18 years but there is no place like the Northeast for me. At 77 years old, this will be my home until the Lord calls me home. @@cattymajiv The sand is thanks to the pressure of weight of the glaciers that ground the rocks down to almost a powder and then water did the rest. The Great Lakes were formed by glaciers that melted after the last Ice Age approximately 20,000 years ago. Their present shape has been around for about 3,000 years.
Zazu and Arlo's riders looked really calm and collected on the horses. If one day they decide to purchase them, I am all for it. Great people and great horses riding together freely. :)
I felt like I was on the great ride with you even though I haven't ridden for about 30 plus years. I still have my great love of horses and that will never change.

@@bernadettecartin I think Shae said that he was 22 years old. He's amazingly fit. I used to have a pony who made it to 30, but we stopped riding him when he was 20.
@@MR-ly4xt Thanks for that info. I knew a racetrack pony who was still working at 29. I rode my mustang until he was maybe 24, can't remember, but I didn't ride him much anyway, not like these guys. He made it to 27. I can think of many examples of how much it varies from horse to horse. I do think if their people are paying attention the horse lets us know if/when it's time to retire. Hoping with Shae's excellent care and his constitution that Jiminy has several more years of good outings in him.

I have to correct myself. It was Frozen Lake Pepin, which receives water from the Mississippi River. I was confused because of one of her books called, by the Shores of Silver Lake.

Beach riding is so magical❣️ Shae, how wonderful for you, your students and the horses. 😍 I live in So. Florida and went ocean beach riding and the 1st time you stopped to let the horses drink, for a split second it was no! That's salt water; they can't drink that. But then remembered it was lake water. Which is great they can drink it!

The other magical thing I liked when I had my horse was night riding under a full moon. The moon was so bright it was almost like daylight.

When I was younger and my family would vacation on the Oregon coast (where I live now), I would go to the stable where we stayed, rent a horse, and ride the beach every year on the same horse.. It was fabulous & and yes, like you, I would sit up in the saddle arms stretch out loving & living the moment.. Wish I were there. Thank you for taking us along with you. ❤️🙋🏼♀️🐈🐕

Oh, this is so exhilarating to watch! Decades ago, I worked on a racing farm in northern Mass, where we would pony Thoroughbred yearlings along the Atlantic shoreline (Crane Beach) to build up their legs and do hydrotherapy. It was beautiful, but an exhausting, wild ride. What it must be like to have only one horse to gallop on the beach--beautifully trained by you, and bitless to boot! Thanks so much for sharing--I love your channel!
That water must be freezing cold! 🥶 Even in the summer lake Michigan is still too cold to swim in. 🏊♀️ That is a beautiful stretch of beach though

Believe it or not, people swim in Lake Superior in the summer. That’s several hundred miles north of this part of Lake Michigan. After a few months of summer temperatures, the Great Lakes are definitely warm enough to swim in. Everybody’s swimming temperature preference differs, of course.

Lake michigan was always too cold for me since i was a kid. Recently tried a beach in the middle of july and it felt like 50°. Since im in WI it may a little chillier than the other side.

The best time to swim in Lake Michigan is late summer/early fall, on a day when the air is cool (say, 67 F). The lake has had all summer to warm up pretty thoroughly. As long as the water is SLIGHTLY warmer than the air, you’re good to go. You just need a terry cloth robe or big towel afterwards until you can remove your clammy suit and get into your clothes. Lived in Glenview and Barrington, last time I hit the beach was maybe 1967….
A lady I used to work with had 3 friends that would ride that beach. How wonderful.

I’m dying to know; how did the Rhonda saddle work out for you? Any sore spots on you or Jiminy, or was it comfy, comfy? The best view of the world, is through the ears of a horse.
@@cattymajiv we’re born with the “I am obsessed with horses” virus. I’ve owned 3 of them. My last one was my pride and joy, but for my health reasons, I had to find him a new home. I will never lose my love for them, and I have found a home for my passion at Free Spirit.

Shae, I could feel your exhilaration as you rode on the beach on Jiminy. You and your students appeared to be having a blast! I must admit, I had no idea the Great Lakes are freshwater. All these years I thought they were saltwater. You all had great weather for your ride, and all four horses did so well! Thanks for taking us along, and giving us your viewpoint aboard Jiminy. @@cattymajiv, thanks for your reply. There are actually a number of saltwater lakes in the world. Just to name a few, the Great Salt Lake in Utah, Mono Lake and the Salton Sea in California, the Dead Sea, and even the Caspian Sea (which is really a lake) are saltwater, so it is possible for lakes to be saltwater.
The Great Lakes flow into the St. Lawrence Seaway, which is a series of locks, channels, and canals that connects into the St. Lawrence River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. That way ships are able to enter and exit the Great Lakes. It's another reason why I thought the Great Lakes were saltwater. I am happy to find out that the Great Lakes are freshwater, it's just something I didn't know before.
Wow! That was so fun! I love riding on the beach! Been years which is sad. Beautiful scenery, beautiful horses! It is refreshing to hear gratitude from people who are living their best life doing what they love. I used to live less than 10 miles from the shore of Lake Superior, outside of the town of Ironwood. This brought back SO many great memories. The Great Lakes are awesome.

Omg I just cried when I seen how much fun everyone was having I don't have a horse I can ride as mine is having medical problems. I am going to save my money up to buy another one I miss riding this was my most enjoying thing in life I did for years my spirit is put on hold until I can get another one. I first began riding horses at age three. Almost 76 years ago. Had I known then I could ride without a bit, I never would have used a bit. It has to make it so much easier on the horse. What a magical day!! Riding a horse on the beach is number one on my bucket list.
I love watching Jafar play in the water. He always likes kicking water. Watching Zazu run next to the other horses I could see his gate better. I’ve read up on gated horses, but to see it is incredible.

It was so nice for me to see Silver lake. I remember reading about it in the Little house on the Prairie series books. I remember the whole family rode horse and wagon across the frozen lake to get to a town nearby, where they could buy supplies. Pa was in a hurry to get back across the lake, because it was early Spring and the lake could begin to thaw and break up at any time. They made it back across the lake and camped there. It wasn't long and they witnessed the ice beginning to break up on Silver lake.
This reminded me of when I had my first horse, Blanco, stabled in Ventura California, and would ride on the beach. thank you for the memories, it looked like a blast for you all.
