- In another FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF MALAYSIA series, we visit Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia to take in the amazing sights and sounds of one of the best cities in Malaysia. We start our day travelling out to Tasik Cermin, or Mirror Lake, before heading to Sam Poh Tong Temple to take in Ipoh Cave Temple scenery like we've never seen before.
After returning to the town, we try White Coffee and Rainbow Toast in Concubine Lane, Ipoh, before eating the famous Caramel Custard at Thean Chun Coffee Shop. Enjoy!

Thanks Irene!
The heat and humidity is what we remember along with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee (kopi-o) in local coffeeshops plus the delicious local food & many interesting sights/shops- up & down the Malaysian peninsula. Love the more relaxed pace of life there.
Definitely - I do love KL but the pace in Ipoh was a nice change
White coffee is when the beans are roasted at lower temperature and not turning black. Also some recipe requires them to be roasted with butter or margerine.
And a lot of sugar

I was born in Singapore but I settled down in Ipoh 23 years ago.
It’s a great place, I don’t blame you!
Another landmark in Perak, is Kingdom City Kuala Kangsar (Sultan Palace).. also there got popular known Ice Milo Kepal Tok Abah..Friday closed 😁
Greetings from North Borneo Island,East Malaysia,Sabah State..I miss Anderson school Ipoh,Perak thanks..
Malaysia is love. I want to be there again
I can’t wait to come back one day and I haven’t even left yet 😂😂
@@josieliftsthings 😂😂😂
As a local Malaysian, its a shame, that I have not been to some of the places that you reviewed...hahaha..need to plan for a road trip one day...
Anyhow, Josie, if you see letter 'C' in Malay, it is pronounce as 'Ch', for example, Cermin is pronounce 'Ch-ermin' instead of 'Ser-min'....other example is Cendol, its 'Ch-endol'....
Enjoy your stay in Malaysia!!!
#milogirl #miloboy
Thank you!
FYI...there are actually 3 kinds of coffee in Malaysia... White Coffee from Ipoh (thick ver)
White Coffee from Johor, Senggarang (light ver)
Black coffee from Muar (Dark ver)..
#milogirl
the poached chicken you guys had were of the free range kind. the bean sprouts were stout and fat, specifically the ipoh-beansprouts, because of the natural limestone-filtered, mineral enhanced spring water used in producing the sprouts.
I visited ipod many times im from dubai they have amazing hotels and food with amazing weather with best coffee in Malaysia 🇲🇾
The white coffee was SO good I was not expecting that!! 😅😂 thank you so much for watching!! ☺️😄
In cantonese, bean sprout chicken is called nga choi kai. The bean sprout is special as it is planted in ipoh. Fresh, crunchy and fat.
The rock is mixture of quartz, phyllite, limestone a kind of marble. IPOH has abundance of limestone hills around with silica and lime to produce cement. You may come a cross few Cement Plant in Ipoh becoz of it!! It was one of the biggest tine mine city during British era.
Oh awesome! Thank you for sharing this knowledge!
Ipoh and taiping are wonderful big towns
Very cute! Must see when travelling through 🙏🏻😁
@@josieliftsthings in taiping there is an orangutan sanctuary. I think bukit merah. Some tourists called it kong island. You can google. You do not need to visit sepilok or semenggoh in borneo to see semi wild orangutans.
Also go to the Royal Town, Kuala kangsar, the architecture is unique and beautiful
Very nice vlog with the positive vibes!
Thank you so much! So glad you like 😁😁😁🙏🏻
Ipoh City ranked sixth most attractive destinations in Asia to visit by"Lonely Planet",a travel portal in the world.

For Ipoh white coffee, you miss the original taste in Ipoh. Try this shop 'Sun Yin Loong White Coffee Shop'. Here is where white coffee started in Ipoh. The shop is located near where you were staying, in the part of old town in Ipoh.

Try some ipoh kaya puff too josie. Watching u eating something sweet so enjoyable.. love watching your video... Love both of u ^^,
Ipoh is the state capital of Perak. It was once the largest area where tin was mined. It is said there are more millionaires in Ipoh than any where else in Malaysia.
Taiping which is about 45minutes drive north of Ipoh was formerly the state capital of Perak. The oldest prison and Lake Gardens plus the Oldest Zoo in Malaysia is located in Taiping. Lots of good food here and cheap accomations. Taiping is The Wettest town in Malaysia
I did not know that about the Malaysians home there!! Thank you!!!
Visit Taiping town and hike up Maxwell Hill. Pangkor Island on the west coast might be worthwhile as well.
I’d love to go to Taiping! Next time. We’re in Borneo now!
Australian Chef Steve Owens i think, currently at Perak now, as current update at his UA-cam Channel
Since you are in Ipoh, your next stop should be Taiping which is not too far away, and you will pass it on your way to Penang. There is a beautiful Lake Gardens there as well as lots of food
Thank you!!! 😁😁
Awesome journey Josie😉
Thank youuuuu! 😁😁😁
mybe you can come to Kuching...my hometown😁😁..try kolok mee😁

If u love Nature beauty and good food with cheap prices and lovely people Go to Taiping in Perak.

Thank you for watching! 😁😁
If you are near Ipoh, head up to the Cameron highlands, it’s a hillside enclave / resort town with tea plantations.
We have so much left to see in Malaysia!!!
Hi dear love you and your vibe keep it up u have done sooooo welll
Thanks!
If you have more time, come to Visit Taiping Perak, One and Only "RAIN TOWN" in Malaysia, not far from Penang (1 & half Hour Drive).. In Taiping, we have Lake Garden, the oldest and bigger Zoo in My Country called "Night Safari", Maxwell Hills, Water falls, Raining Forest & So much More..
*I warned you about the weather, Taiping is always raining 😄..
Stop over to Taiping, the next town.
For me underrated states in Malaysia are Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Sarawak and Pahang
I cannot wait to show you some of them! And hopefully I can get to the others another time! 😁😁🙏🏻
What's interesting in Perlis?
@@JaswantSingh-ym9zo Gua Kelam, Wang Kelian viewpoint, Bukit Chabang,Tasik Timah Tasoh, Padang Besar, Rainbow bridge at Kuala Perlis … can take electric train to arau, rent a car and travel around the state 😊
@@suriasabri6561 Been to Padang Besar once. Wasn't much there, just a border town. Rainbow Bridge sounds interesting. Thanks
@@JaswantSingh-ym9zo maybe for us nothing but Perlis have beautiful natural landscape like Sabah and Sarawak that attracts foreigners
Ipoh is definitely not a under rated city for locals but for foreigners
That's why you don't find too many touristry spots upgrading works there to suit foreign tourists
Local tourists prefer the place to remain the old traditional looks
#milogirl
13:30 cold white coffee on a hot day, and hot white coffee on a cold rainy night. That's the way it should be
I agree 💃 😁
Selamat datang..welcome to Perak...

Thank you!!!! #milogirl! 😭🥹🥹
You should try the dim sum @ Ipoh. Penang has it too. 😊
Oh cool!
Ipoh's cuisine, amazing street art and culture influenced by the Chinese, retain the city's old glory.
hai guys...please go to kelantan kota bahru and try nasi kukus. nasi kerabu with budu.
Hi,milo girl!! Great videos
THANK YOUUU 😁😁 #teammilo 🫶🏻😁😂
Josie, each time I watch your vlogs, I find that Michael looks very familiar. I tried very hard to recall where had seen him, and just awhile ago, it jogged my memory. To me, he looks like Calum Scott, who participated in BGT in 2015
This is so funny because he gets so many comments telling him he looks like people 😂 a boat driver we had also said he looks like Calum Scott, some people said James cordon, some said Tom Hardy some said someone else hahaha it’s so funny 😂😂😂😂

Ipoh is well known to Malaysians for having some of the most delicious food.
I need to go back for a 2nd time!
hi milo girl........thanks for coming to malaysia
Hi.... nice view lods.shout out
I recommend you,ll visit Sabah east Malaysia n enjoy mount Kinabalu also paradise of Maldives Malaysia island...
Just uploaded my first Borneo video :)
Ipoh and the Kinta Valley are synonymous with the old tin-mining industry, one of the pillars of Malaysia's old commodities-based economy. Tin made many older generation ethnic Chinese millionaires during its heyday in the 1800s-1900s.
Thank you!
There is a huge cave temple.....
Its Michelle Yeoh home town.

And the egg custard looks like the Cuban flan 😋 delicious!
Kellie's Castle is near Ipoh
I am Sarawak Borneo, u can eat mee laksa, Kolo mee, kek lapis, tradisional eat and others 😁

@@josieliftsthings enjoy!
If u have the time, do try traditional Malay food in Balik Pulau too, fish curry @ Sungai Penang etc. Or several other seafood joints in Batu Maung or Teluk Kumbar - fishing village area in the southern part of the island.
You guys eating the chicken and bean sprouts without any rice probably triggered every Malaysian. Lol!
HAHAHAHA when I ordered he asked rice and we were like “ummm no it’s okay” and he was like NO RICE???? 😂😂😂😂
But I was so full 😂 if it’s good without rice it’s a very good dish 😍😍😂
@@josieliftsthings Yes, essentially you ordered a chicken rice...without the rice. I liken it to ordering pizza toppings without the pizza dough. Haha!
Also I know you can't take spicy food but do give most of the chili sauces given along with any dish a try as most of them are mild and a bit sweet. But they MAKE the dish if you know what I mean.
Anyways, enjoy your stay here. For foodies like you guys, my only worry is you might not want to leave!
I dieddddd when she didn’t order rice! The “chicken rice” is the best part of chicken rice 😂😂😂
If you like milo, have to try Pok Moh Milo Tunggeng in Kota Baru Kelantan
Ooh sounds good!
Apart from KL and Penang, Ipoh in Perak is another state that most people would visit. But not many people would go to the east coast of the peninsular and the Borneo regions of Sarawak and Sabah.
I definitely saw lots of Malaysian people and other tourists from different parts! I didn’t see as many tourists there from the west and coming from the west we don’t really see ipoh as a place to go to in Malaysia! But, those are good suggestions, you’ll have to keep watching (or follow my Instagram for real time updates 😉) 😁😁🙏🏻
@@josieliftsthings ipoh is famous for food, local specialties, pomelo, caves, hot spring, a city with british historical buildings, and royal belum reserved forest with the most species of hornbill in the world, many bird lovers came here from abroad just to watch hornbills. Personally I feel theres a difference in the milo powder from Australia and Malaysia, I have visited Australia once and purchased a tin of milo there, Australia ones taste more milky less chocolatey compared to Malaysia one. We do make up for the milky taste by adding alot of condensed milk into the milo. I have never been to Thailand, but I will try Milo there if I get the chance 😂 It is so interesting you hunt for MILO everywhere ! 🤣 you definitely are the #milogirl
Even the taste of Coke is different from country to country
Milo is just cocoa powder with added nutrients. Cocoa is produced locally while the dairy industry in Australia is more developed. So I guess that's why it's milkier over there.
actually ipoh is quite famous. what is truly underrated and not famous is the east coast of malaysian peninsula, and sabah/sarawak
See my newest video! 😁😁😉😉
I never try milo. Will do when I am in that region next time.
So good! I think Thailand one is a bit better but malaysia is second! Haha

Wow ,ms Josie next time u visits in Dubai, uae.
Ipoh are the first city in Malaysia recommended in Lonely Planet..its has potential a lot of them but the local council are not putting extra money to make it more appealing to tourist..by the way your trip in Ipoh are not complete without trying the most famous nasi Ganja..
If it’s more touristy, then it will lose its “old town” vibes.
I can honestly say I’ve never read a Lonely Planet haha - I think the relevance is dying out! I hope it stays rustic and traditional. It’s a wonderful town.
