  • Shepherd Of The Hills Outdoor Drama: Branson's Original Show!!
    For over 60 years the Shepherd of the Hills has made its home in Branson, Missouri and into the hearts of all those who visit to watch the play. Originally inspired by the Ozark way of life and the people who once called this area home, the play was adapted from a book by Harold Bell Wright, who stayed in the Ozarks and found its impact to be life changing. His book went on to change the lives of many and was adapted into a screenplay and play which is performed annual.
    But watching the play you learn quickly that the very values expressed in the program still ring true in Branson today as family members have spent generations telling the story from the eyes of the performers and staff which work throughout the grounds. Watching this is more than a treat, it is an experience of what it is to be a part of the Ozarks, if only for an evening.
    Context: The original book and play was created based on characters Bell Wright met while staying the Ozarks. He drew inspiration from the stories in the news of the time, including the Baldknobbers. The Baldknobbers were a group which originally assembled to prevent government overreach in the Ozarks but eventually went rogue and created chaos which made national headlines for their robberies and other crimes. Question of the Day: Have you ever been to a play or production?

    Appreciate the history lesson before the play. I have seen the play on numerous occasions with family and appreciate it.

      I wanted to highlight all that exists on the grounds so people could have a more complete picture of all that is available. I find that the play is one amazing portion of the aspect, but knowing the story behind why it exists is very important.

    This is my favorite production in Branson. We have been going every year since I can remember. One of our neighbors was once in the show. Thank you for sharing this bit of our Branson history.

      You are welcome!! The program is one I have been to when I was younger and so going as an adult I can appreciate the hard work that goes into it even more. They have such a beautiful way of storytelling and everyone is so talented. Really enjoyed this and wanted to share some of the clips without showing so much that it ruined it. I hope that I did them justice. I know a lot of people unfamiliar with the story of the Baldknobbers don't know how they were a group of bandits which plagued the Ozarks stealing and robbing. I hope to one day highlight some of the other people who helped found Branson through Silver Dollar City :)

      I enjoy the deep dive of history and telling the stories behind things. I think that is what really sets the tone for things we experience and knowing more about those things is important... sure there will be some people who don't love the deep dive like I do but on my channel I will always share those things!

    What a wonderful glimpse into the play. I as always appreciate you bringing us the little extra context with the historic side of the story and I have watched your Harold Bell Wright Museum video previously so it ties the package all together. Looks like a lot of moving parts and great talent have gone into this. Thank you for sharing young lady.

      I love sharing that side of things.. I think the pieces which tell the bigger story are always important and so sharing them I am able to connect the dots on what made it all come together... I am so glad you also caught that other video because it tells more about the man himself and how he went on to become larger than life

      I highly suggest visiting and checking this out at least once in a lifetime... it is a story that although set in a day long since passed it has relevance... telling of community bonds, people supporting people and other themes which still remain true today

    I have seen this a handful of times. My grandparents used to take us every summer. I remember whenever I watched it whenever I was younger not understanding why little Pete talked the way he did. Now I get it as an adult. Really good story and for anyone who hasn’t been they should go at least once.

      I agree.. certain parts of it as a kid I don't remember understanding fully, that is the nature of being a kid.. we pick up on different things then than we do as an adult... I really appreciate all the work it takes to create this production and now as I watch I have a deeper level of respect for it!!

    I have learned with your channel to always look for the context or description first. Sometimes it is new things I need to look for in the video like items in your van. Today it is the definition of these people in masks. Thanks for always thinking about the audience.

      @BunnyPlaysHere  2 роки тому

      I always do try to include tidbits in the description. Sometimes it’s just something silly sometimes it is actual context behind the video like this one and sometimes it is just a description of where we are going but there is always something there that benefits the video

    Live productions are always much harder when done this way so I have a lot of respect for all that they have done here. Working with animals and people it has to make it even more tough. I was saddened to learn that this was not going to be running when I visit in December, yes you heard that right I am visiting in December after watching all of your videos I have been convinced. Since this will not be running do you have any shows you would suggest, I have to catch at least one since Branson is known for their shows. Otherwise I will fill my time with outdoor spaces and attractions. And I am staying at Table Rock at one of the campgrounds you suggested in your email.

    • @BunnyPlaysHere

      I agree.. a lot of variables.. but they make it look easy with this one.. the auxiliary cast is always in motion making the story come to life in the background even when the principle actors are performing their parts... it is great to see the work and dedication they have going into this long standing production and the set is great!!!

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  2 роки тому

      I would consider! However I do know that they don’t allow you to film a lot of the show. So I would have to find out if I can get special permission to show clips. However I do know that they have something kind of special before the show where you can actually go and meet the horses and I know you can also film your meals. So maybe

    Can you explain this a bit more. Why are they wearing masks?

    • @BunnyPlaysHere
      @BunnyPlaysHere  2 роки тому +1

      Certainly! I was not able to post the entirety of the program for obvious reasons so I realize with the clips even with what I left in there are a few blanks to be filled in. The people in masks are called the Baldknobbers, an infamous group which rode in the Ozarks initially as a civilian extension of law enforcement but then that went rogue and started using their position for personal gain. In doing so they robbed banks and created chaos in communities when people disagreed with them. The play documents how these people were amongst the others daily without them knowing who they were. They are just one aspect of the play however. The play highlights how the simple life of the Ozarks has its own appeal and the people there have their unique offerings to the world in way of loyalty, love and respect for one another. You can see this through the various characters which are introduced and it does have a backbone centered on how the characters believe in God and through that belief they are impacted throughout the program. It is a very good overall story and one I highly recommend people seeing when they visit the area. It also was once done in a film version which was one of John Waynes earlier roles.... although his depiction I will say is nothing like that of the play you see in Branson which is much better.

    • @kylegentry762
      @kylegentry762 2 роки тому +1

      @@BunnyPlaysHere Thank you for this explanation. I was watching and trying to put the pieces together but like you said not being able to film a lot of it there were still some questions. It looks like it is very well done. I would be interested in seeing that other version but I’ve watched most of his movies and never even heard of it so I am assuming this is one from very early on. I appreciate that you cover so many different things that I normally wouldn’t pay attention to on UA-cam. This has me wondering even more if I need to see this. Great video!

    • @michaelbonderton5056
      @michaelbonderton5056 2 роки тому +1

      She mentioned in the description a brief description of who the masked men were. Lowlifes and bandits parading around under the ruse of being part of the protectors of the area until they decided to start working for themselves and their own personal gain by turning to a life of lawlessness. I looked into this a bit more and it also says they felt the government was overstepping in their communities and they opted to mostly steal from the government businesses such as banks.

    • @tiarakannady7222
      @tiarakannady7222 2 роки тому +1

      You had me really questioning this one but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and read the description because I know you put things in there and then I went ahead and watched and realized these are not the same people we have here in Georgia, at least doesn't look like they are responsible for the same things. So I watched it. Noticed God was mentioned a lot, so I am going to pray they doing the right thing over there in Branson with this. Looked like some really talented people and a big set. Might be interesting. I am going to trust you girl, you never led me down the wrong path yet.

    • @campingqueen9051
      @campingqueen9051 2 роки тому +1

      Context is everything. I looked into this after seeing her Pumpkin Fest video and noticed the play flyer had the same masks on them. I googled what a Baldknobbber is and it said that originally they were a part of the Union and loathed anyone who was for the Confederate side during the war. They started out as the good guys but somewhere along the line turned into a vigilante group that shifted their focus to serve themselves. They were anti-government and started to steal from banks which were insured by the fed and thought that because they were stealing from the government it wasn't a big deal. It wasn't until they started to unravel that they started having violence amongst their own neighbors as they were discovered for their wrong doings. Wikipedia has some other great information about them, they are not the clan and probably would kick the clans butt because they hated their values.
