Shipwrecks of Lake Union: Seattle's Hidden History

- This short video documents the Lake Union underwater archaeology project that The Center for Wooden Boats Founding Director Dick Wagner has been helping lead for the last several years. CWB is working with the UW's Burke Museum, The State Department of Ecology, and others to locate and document vessels and other historic artifacts. Using the latest in underwater technology, divers and amateur archaeologists have been scouring the 40-foot-deep lake, looking at more spots where sunken vessels lie.

This documentary was created by film making students at the Art Institute in Seattle, and had its public debut in February 2012 during CWBs Third Friday Speaker Series.

What a great documentary for history. I hope to see more as you find out about some of those boats and ships in the lake. Thank you for the glimpse of unknown history of Lake Union!!
I would hope to see major efforts in cleaning up that lake. If entities still exist that own those sunken garbage/vessels - bill em.
You would have to be nuts to swim in that cesspool of a lake...
Is it illegal to dive only in Lake Union, or are there other Washington lakes under this law?
Great clip.
Very interesting. I'd love to see a location map.
Are any of the boats worth raising? Wood and metal salvaged?
Anyone wonder what's being hidden if the City has made it illegal to dive the lake?
It's illegal, from what I've read, because of the dangers diving there would impose. A shallow lake, low visibility, and lots of boat traffic.
@@deffinitlynotaburger yup it's only about 40 feet deep. There's too much stuff down there to be safe.
It's illegal to dive here? That's bull
Because it is really polluted and also used as a landing strip.
