    Hi - I always enjoy your out in the garden videos. I have an off topic question if you don’t mind. Do you happen to know the paint color of your house? I noticed how pretty it looked and we’re planning on repainting ours this year, so it just grabbed my attention. Thank you.

      I wish I could remember it! I remember the trim color is Dover White but I can’t remember the name of the gray/blue color. It’s Sherwin Williams. So sorry! If I ever figure it out I’ll let you know!

    Hi can you please tell me how frequently you fertilize your roses using max sea fertilizer??? I have not fertilized my roses yet . So wanted to get some suggestions.

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  9 місяців тому

      I start using Max Sea once there is about 4-6 inches of new growth on my roses and the danger of frost has passed. I try to stick with fertilizing twice a month. I tried doing a lower dose once a week but I just can’t keep up with that schedule! I tried last year and couldn’t make time for it. So twice a month is what I am aiming for this year!

      @@summermoongarden oh fantastic. Thank you so much for your quick reply . I really really love your garden ideas and they are so lovely . I have no words to say how gorgeous all your rose plants are . This is my first time buying a David Austin rose and I hope it grows well . Also, Do you recommend fertilizing a bare root rose that I planted just two weeks back ?

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  9 місяців тому

      @LifestyleofGladyesAlben it depends on your zone. Wait til all chance to frost has passed and your new rose has 4-6 inches of new growth before you start using Max Sea. If you want to use and organic fertilizer like rose tone or holly tone, you can do it now because it’s a slow release and feed the soil and doesn’t jolt the plant out of dormancy.

    Wow, my poor roses are probably starving. Thank you so much for showing us how much and what you feed the roses. How often do you feed them? Love your garden and can’t wait to see your blooms in spring. Last question do you feed your roses that are in pots the same amount?

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому +1

      I spread the granulated fertilizer only once a year, and use a liquid fertilizer once the roses have woken up and have about 6 inches of new growth on them. And yes I give the same amount to my potted roses!❤

      Oh and I use the liquid fertilizer every two weeks during growing seasons well, I try to keep up that schedule but it doesn’t always happen if we are traveling.❤

    Hi Lauren! 😊I bought a David Austin Generous Gardener this year and I’m so excited. It’s coming this spring and I am going to grow it over a beautiful pergola arbor. I only bought one rose plant because I’m thinking that’s going to be more than enough? Thoughts? The arbor is 5 feet wide x 7 feet tall. 20 inches front to back. Any tips or tricks are appreciated. I’ve been watching a lot of videos and I’ve been on the DA website. As I understand from researching, the key is lateral training for climbers & pruning is essential. Any other advice is welcomed! Have a great day! Love your garden videos. I agree! I love to watch people work peacefully on something like gardening and talk and share about it. It’s relaxing. 😊

      Since it’s an arbor, it would look beautiful to have a rose on each side! But even just one rose will look beautiful too!❤ feed it frequently and it will grow big for you!

    Our dogs try to eat our fertilizer, Rose Tone when we put it around our roses and it gives them very upset stomachs!! I had to just switch to only fish fertilizer…any other granular fertilizers that are pet safe??

    • @banderaitaly
      @banderaitaly 10 місяців тому +1

      That’s a good question! My dogs also go after fertilizers like candy. The liquid fish fertilizer makes them dig a hole to get to the smells. I hope someone chimes in with solutions for fertilizer the dogs don’t want.

      Oh no! Sounds like you probably should stay away from granular all together. You could try adding compost each year. And I really like Max Sea, just mix with water and it works so well!

    I have a question why is it that when I put rose tone and two other things of fertilizer and later on I will dig the dirt and my fertilizer looks like white pieces of dry paper. Does that ever happen to you? If so I’m I doing something wrong 😢

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому

      Yes, it’s just part of the decomposition process! Totally fine. Maybe scratch it into the soil a little bit if you don’t like the way it looks! ❤

    You are going to be doing a lot of weeding in that bed now. You thought the weeds were bad with the weed fabric. If you put nothing down they will run rampant!

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому

      It only worked for a short time last year. We will have to spray, which I don’t like doing, but even the weed fabric isn’t effective enough!❤

    @umairshah6358 10 місяців тому

    I am no expert but it seems you are putting a bit too much fertilizer and a bit too early. I would ve thought that this much amount will lead to burning.

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому +1

      Holly Tone doesn’t burn plants because it’s completely organic. It’s the synthetic fertilizers you gotta be really careful with! Also, holly tone is a “slow feed” fertilizer so it’s ok to get a little extra with it and it’s ok to use while your plants are still dormant. Hope this helps!❤

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому

      Oh also I’m in zone 7 and right now is pruning time for us so it’s pretty normal to use this type of fertilizer when pruning and cleaning up the rose garden. I wouldn’t recommend this right now for someone in a colder zone!

    • @freciemagdirila7075
      @freciemagdirila7075 10 місяців тому

      Too much fertilizer? Have you seen her roses come spring. Too early? It depends on your zone. She said she lives in zone 7, so maybe not too early for her. On the other hand, I live in zone 10a and close to the coast where it’s never too early.

    • @umairshah6358
      @umairshah6358 10 місяців тому

      @@freciemagdirila7075 yes i can see that her roses are nice but that doesn’t mean that too much of fertilizer is the reason behind it. I ve previously used fish blood n bone fertilizer, which is also organic yet too much of it is actually harmful for the plants. As for timing, i am a bit skeptical that even in zone 7, first of February isn’t too early.

    • @summermoongarden
      @summermoongarden  10 місяців тому

      @@umairshah6358whatever method works for you is totally fine! One of the main reasons I am doing this now is because Feb 5 I have an order of bare roots roses coming in that are going in a different bed and on the 7th we leave for the Bahamas. I gotta get this done before our trip! Like I said in the video, this type of fertilizer doesn’t force the roses into waking up, it feeds the soil in a slow release so it’s perfectly fine to do this whenever it’s convenient for your schedule and proper for your zone. ❤
