Good video. I have a new pump about 2 years ago and my second Accumulator this week. Car does not crank over at all. Hopefully I'm not in need of my second pump!
Hi Ser , I bought alfe 147 selespeed , when I make test drive, every thing was ok , then I brought the car home by track,, next day I start is , drive it to wash station, wash is by high pressure water , then I drive it and after 500-1000 m it’s begin to jump on speed 1 , like the klatch don’t take the gear at once , rpm go up +- then it go or jump , then it change gears normally, the same but les is happening in R reverse, - the battery is weak ( it had long stop) - the temperature was height 34* . - i shut the engine and start , all the kontrole lights warns , then i shut and start and every controls is shut ( all normal) just the jump in start. - change gears is normal by hand or automatic. - before that I change the system many times , city - auto- tiptronic-city and that when I drive before the problem began... Here in Czech no body have experience with selespeed ,, can you give me some advice , or what I do wrong ?? Or what I must check or change?? Tomorrow I will try it again, if it behave same with cool gear box and engine , or if some water was there , and change the battery, and I will tell you what is happen new. Thank you anyway Sam
Hi Sam, Well DO NOT EVER SPRAY WATER OVER OR UNDER ENGINE/GEARBOX !!!!!!!!!!!!NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!! You must allow it to DRY maybe a 2 days in warm weather. To make your Engine Clean and Sparkling First clean with Rag/Cotton Cloth and CRC or WD40 this will remove oil. To make it look like new and Shinny use Tyre Shine Spray !!!! You could now have problems with water in Sparkplug wells and on leads if you have misfire remove all completely and dry before resaasembly as my films. Re gears it would seem you got water in Clutch so only time for it to Dry will help. You cannot water spray or High pressure water spray these engines!!!!!! Good luck feel free to ask any other questions. Regards Trev
Hi, thank you very much unswerving me, I appreciate it,, I forgot to tell you that I change the mode , city- selfchange - city- self change- city. Etc. many times during driving the car , after that it began, in that day. Yesterday the temperature was 33-37 C, and I make another test drive cca 20 km ,, and car behaves normally, the problem gone , but I use the steering change gears, and don’t use City mode at all , every thing is ok now, or until now , and I hope it stays like that,,,, Best Regards. Thank you a lot. I will contact you if something new comes. Sam. Z.
I purchased from Japan an LHD used Alfa Romeo 156, selespeed 1999 model, 2.0 lit, 16 valve Twin spark sedan, Chassis Nr. ZAR 932000*00082038. Please permit me to give you the details of the diagnosis I’m facing :
When I switch on the ignition; the car engine starts efficiently, while the engine is still running and I want to drive the car either (Front or Reverse) ☹️🤔 it doesn’t move although the gear is fixed, even I accelerate the fuel but it doesn’t move (the engine still running). I can observe a RED LIGHT comes on from the button shown ON at the dashboard at (the RPM area) that icon shows like a sprayer What I do usually ?? I OFF THE ENGINE AND START AGAIN, then I put the gear and the car moves on. !! The car doesn’t make this malfunction while driving on high way BUT unfortunately when I slow my speed to drive over a hump or I'm on congestion traffic; I face the same problem . In Dubai car dealer, they suspected the ECU (Engine Control Unit) failure, although, of that, I changed it with another used one from Japan, but still having the same problem. Anyone knows what is the problem please, Thanks, and best regards.
Hi needing help. Appreciate you. The car doesnt move at all. So i removed the gearbox and i found out the gearbox is damaged, pressure plate and bearing. I changed everything. Now the car doesn’t crank up. Battery, Fuse/Relays, starter motor is okay. Do you have any guess what could be the trouble?
You need to establish that the Hydraulic Pump is operating to full pressure!! You will not be able to select gears unless it has pressure! So you need to watch the film which shows having battery on ground but connected with jumper leads then check pump oil tank and add if needed with correct oil, then activate the pump by "turning on key" "but not starting engine" and the pump should start then turn bleed screw the pump should run continuous while screw is open and should stop when screw is closed. At this stage there should be pressure and you should be able to select gears and as you do the pump should cut in and out periodically to maintain the pressure. All the best
Good day mate , what would you say could be a reason for the pump not autonatically priming when you open the drivers door? My 147 has been doing that for a while and then it takes turning the ignition on and off a couple times before the pump primes .
If its already up to pressure then it will not start when you open the door. If when you open door and it does not start try putting it in gear with Ignition on but motor not running, the pump should cut in after selecting a few gears if the system is ok. You could try changing the Pump Relay as the contacts could be on way out? The Pump relay is Opposite the Battery mounted Separate on the Wiring Loom NOT on the Fuse panel. It is shown on one of my films. The after market relays are cheap usually buy and Electrics parts place. Hope it helps.
@@kiwitrevau Hi, what a video! I have the same issue but on a 159 , do you know where the pump relay is located on a 159/brera? not in the loom ..I coudn't find it. If you know where the pressure sensor is please also tell me. Cheers!
Hi my friend. I want to remove the selespeed robot from the gearbox with removing the gearbox. Can you show me with a picture where the bolts are that have to be unbolted please.
hi my friend , how is the car now ? , i have the same problem, i think is the accumulator , y change the pump, it becomes hot and then stop working , the problem is tt there is no pressure , and tt forces . the pump
Hi I have a question. My 156 selespeed (2002) starts fine, the pump starts when i open the door. It shifts nicely into the gears. but when i take my foot off the break and push on the gas the car does not move. It just revs the engine. Any idea what i am looking at here?? Any help would be welcomed.
@@vikingwoman1971 Are you able to select at least 3 gears without starting the engine? If you can, it might be your clutch, if you can't, it may well be one of the issues Trev explains in the video.
@@vikingwoman1971 The only thing that might help is to run a diagnostic, for that you can buy the software multiscan or get an alfa specialist to visit or get it towed to them.
Not sure what that could be maybe check how often Hyd pump is cutting in and out as if pressure tank is on way out may not hold pressure which may slow the gearchange other wise could be dirt got in gear shit mechanism as its a bunch of solenoids moving the gears. Sorry cannot help more
Just unplug the pump put 12vdc on it and see if runs if does not run just replace the brushes will cost less than $40 or get a quote from an elect person to fit

@@kiwitrevau Here the link of the good one it's pratically the same but this one is more fluid !!!! www.amazon.fr/Petronas-TUTELA-CS-SPEED/dp/B01BKHQZUK
This is the hardest car to work on I have replaced many Sillyspeeds, they fail around 50-70k kilometres by desing, the accumulator starts to leak over time and not holding pressure, the material its housed (ball) becomes porous overtime, the sensors fail due to seals because they wear out since its horizontally laid on top, the seals fail due to gravity. After installing a new selespeed you will need the alfa software to calibrate it and check pressures. Get rid of this car unless you have 4k to spend every 5 years or 6hrs and 2k fixing it. Not to mention timing belt on these cars every 3 years regardless of kms travelled.
