Rodney I just wanna say a huge thank you! So many channels do a "Top 10 games to start your collection with," or "Top 10 games of all time," etc but I often find that what I enjoy in a game isn't the same as what those list-makers enjoy. What I love about your channel is I can watch all your video tutorials and see what a game looks like and how it plays, and I can make my OWN top 10 list of games I want. Every time I have a birthday or Christmas coming up I head straight to your channel to look for games that interest me. I just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation for you and your amazing channel!
This game was recommended to me to try and based on your well explained instructions I've decided that it is well worth the purchase. Looks like a lot of fun. Great explanations, very comprehensive. Thanks
I got this game for Christmas but the instruction book was super intimidating...this video series made everything super clear and now i've become the Overlord in my regular gaming group and we've had more fun than we've had in months. Thanks so much for the series and expect me to be watching more of your videos.
i play as overlord against my friend and keep losing...it is a good thing the game gives overlord experience points even if i lose. then starting from act 2 things get much much easier for me. but i would still lose. i still can't figure out a way to deal with heroes being able to quickly reach their objective using fatigue. if i use big guys to block the choke holes, heroes will stun lock my big guy and eventually kill it. if you have found a way to deal with it let me know, i really want to beat my friend. and shove their heroic laughs down their asses.
I played a bunch and yes, power creep and stun locks were definitely a major issue. The only tactic that seemed to work was blocking the heroes at a choke point and complete the objective ASAP...but as you've seen, that doesn't always work. Picking the right minions and the right Overlord Cards is essential. Fighting the heroes head on is a fools errand, as the game is designed for the heroes to handle every thing you can throw at them with even a small amount of strategy. My best advise, force the party to split. Smaller teams of heroes are way less effective, and if you can get them to spread out (either by using lots of smaller minions or by making the players think they have multiple objectives) then you have a much better chance. Good luck
MystDragon3k do you prefer the slow minions or the fast minions? goblin archers/spiders vs ettins/merriod cus if i get goblins/spiders my friend kills them with ease. if i block the entrance with ettins/merriod, they get kited by range artillery attacks because these guys move only 3-4 x 2 per turn compared to heroes who are moving 5+ with fatigue usage. the heroes also block the chokeholes with tanky guys. just sit there and refuse to move then as soon as they see my big guys bam stun lock (since they get to attack 2x while i can only attack 1x. their chance of success is much higher) the only time i beat my friend in a 2 player game was when he said he would allow one extra open group for me to deploy, but if he wins the scenario, he will take 50 more gold. he likes using scouts and mages for quick and fast movements and easy tests.
Two words: Action economy. I encounter this in my D&D game I run, and really any asymmetrical turn based game. If you have 1 big monster fighting 3 or 4 heroes, those heroes are going to focus their fire, work together, and get 3-4 moves against the big monsters 1 move. Having multiple, smaller monsters splits up the hero's actions, their attention, and ability to deal with an immediate threat. Those creatures will die...ALL of your creatures are going to die, so why bother with big health minions if they're going to get stun locked and killed anyway? Divide your opponents up, swarm one hero, or just go after multiple objectives at once. The heroes are much more likely to win regardless of what you do, but the times I used lots and lots of enemies were the times I was most likely to win.
so glad your doing this game, i just bought it and it should arrive in a few days. Its gonna be great watching and seeing what the voter controlled character will do
I think that Widow Tarha miniature looks amazing! I can't believe you're finally doing Descent! This was awesome news. Thanks for all of your hard work Rodney. Looking forward to it!
Leoric is a definite character if you want some serious damage to consider on rolls. He can suffer fatigue to gain +2 damage. If only you allowed the necromancer subclass, then it would have been completely awesome with his familiar. I suggest Leoric and Jain considering we'll be dealing with line of sight complications. Range would keep the party healthy while Luke is in the front with Grisbane.
My votes are for Jain & Tarha. Jain for her high speed and speed boost - Tarha for her double hit! Is there any way we could convince you Rodney of using one of each Archetype? Avric is such a close third! :D
Rodney, you have some completion. The videos from "Tina the Solo Gamer" are really good. Good editing and good explanations of the rules. This is someone to watch out for :)
Ohhh nice! I like to think I was the 2 000 000th view with all that viewing I've been doing those last couple of days :) I've actually decided to watch every single video (well except those that aren't games directly) since I've already did about half haha ;)
What's the name of the music playing when the Character minis/player boards/cards are being shown? It's beautiful, like something from an 80's movie :)
Hi Rodney! Noticed that one of the ability cards stated "Reach", and just had that one word. What does "reach" mean? This was for Ashrian and her oak staff.
+Angela Thas The Reach keyword allows the figure to use a Melee attack to target a figure up to two spaces away, rather than only adjacent spaces. The target still needs to be in line of sight.
Hi Rodney, Is it possible for 2 players to choose the same Archetype (ex warrior)...? Let's say one chooses the Dwarf Berserker and the other one Syndrael.... Can Syndrael choose the skills of the Berserker(whirlwind etc) while the Dwarf choose the Knight Skills(defend etc)? Or are they bound to the ones that matches their class card?
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but essentially, you can have two Warriors on the team, as long as they each choose their own separate class deck (if you had multiple copies of the game, you could choose the exact same class deck as well).
Hi Rodney i was just wondering me an my friend have had star-wars imperial Assault for a while now an we ran into a lot of imbalancement nature of the game could u do a video explaining how the game works an played please an thank you
hey Rodney today i just got descent 2nd edition but instead it coming with the stander campaign guide it came with Heirs Of Blood campaign guide so just wondering could you help explain how do i shop for items an spending experience points im asking this because the game i bought is different from the game you have in your video
ssfire8 I don't have the game in front of me (travelling right now). If you go to the Fantasy Flight Games website, you can find the quest PDF, I think? If not, you might be able to google for a link to it.
I have always loved healers so I think Avric Albright should be one of the chars and a mage is always good for some range and specials so Leoric of the Book.

Thank you so much for the kind comment and thoughts about the channel. That really means a lot!

Very pleased to hear you found the video helpful.

Wow - I love hearing a story like that! So great that you're now diving in and having a great time with your friends. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for this video! You always get me excited on so many games. Flash Duel was the first and we still always play it! Thanks again :)

My daughter and I also like the Jain & Avric combo that richepoor suggested in honor of Andrea.
I think that Widow Tarha miniature looks amazing!

Tomble looks pretty funny so I vote for him.
also Leoric because I like the color of his robes!
As a person who likes to read, I have to say Leoric of the Book is an awesome character name.
The miniatures look really great.
Of course the Overlord would prefer if we choose by the looks!
you do it the way you want to Rodney!
My votes are for Jain & Tarha. Jain for her high speed and speed boost - Tarha for her double hit! Is there any way we could convince you Rodney of using one of each Archetype? Avric is such a close third! :D
Syndrael (Knight) & Avric(Disciple) against the Chicken-Lord !
Avric Albright looks like a good support/defense character to match Luke's offense.
Rodney, you have some completion. The videos from "Tina the Solo Gamer" are really good. Good editing and good explanations of the rules. This is someone to watch out for :)
Happy to see another fellow board game media creator spreading the word about board games!
keep up the great work.
Thank you very much James!
Avric MUST be there :) I guess that since Grisban is there a range character would go well. But Avric is a must! ^u^
Ohhh nice! I like to think I was the 2 000 000th view with all that viewing I've been doing those last couple of days :)

What's the name of the music playing when the Character minis/player boards/cards are being shown?
It's beautiful, like something from an 80's movie :)
That's music that was put together for us by Chaz Charlton of Shifting Sands media, you'll find his name in the credits at the end of the video.
At the risk of appearing pedantic, archetype is pronounced with a hard CH and the e is not silent - ärk(i)ˌtīp
Yep, I've been told :)
1:10 I had to rewind the video several times cause I kept hearing that the first class was "Lawyer".
Avric Albright and Leoric of the Book look good.
Do you know how to play solo game of Descent? Could you introduce web pages and apps to do solo game of this great game?
Thanks for the interest. No plans to cover the solo rules currently.
Congrats on 2 million video views!
Go Ashrian for crowd control with her stun. Go Avric because he's the healer.
Love the minis
They're pretty fantastic, aren't they? :)
Hi Rodney,

yea...i have been wondering about that too.
i think the game even allows you to mix cards of two different archetypes. ex: skirmisher and champion.
Are all those bases custom made? I'm interested in getting something similar for my minis.
My minis were painted by my friend over at Peninsula Painting Services. He added custom bases.
We (me & the wife [mostly she]) vote for Syndrael & Tomble Burrowel :D
I wish I could find a playthrough of Descent First Edition so I could use my game.
All the best in your search!
love this game
Wooo! This is going to be good. :D
Leoric of the Book and Ashrian
Hi Rodney i was just wondering me an my friend have had star-wars imperial Assault for a while now an we ran into a lot of imbalancement nature of the game could u do a video explaining how the game works an played please an thank you
Hey Fire, I do have the game, but haven't got any plans to feature it yet (I actually haven't played it)
if u can get around to it me an my friends would appreciate if you can get around to it thank you

sorry i didn't mean to upset u I'll check it up on the web
ill vote for Alvric because he is a healer
I'd say Widow and Alric
The healer and the archer
Syndrael and Avric Albright.
Leoric of the Book.
What's an arch-i-type? Must be another game mechanic from those zany designers at Fantasy Flight Games.
All right YOU!
:D yes I'm a big tease. Honestly, I very much enjoy Descent 2nd Ed. Keep up the good work mate!
P.S. Nice paint jobs on the figs.
Haitchpeasauce I enjoyed the tease :)
syndrael and widow
Harrah! Descent :)
Rodney, you do know you are going to lose, because you are playing against Luke.
Avric and Tomble
I choose tomble! Not going to the facebook page. to lazy......please lt this coun as a vote.
8 years later and i will start the game 😂
It's never to late to enjoy a game!
I just want to know how to play the game
You'll want to watch this too: ua-cam.com/video/Zw3c5mlEVkY/v-deo.html
Great! =D
MUST HAVE AVRIC!
I have always loved healers so I think Avric Albright should be one of the chars and a mage is always good for some range and specials so Leoric of the Book.
Avric and Leoric
