  • Renowned horror icon and screen legend Mia Farrow -- best known for her chilling performance in the 1968 classic "Rosemary’s Baby" and for captivating roles in "The Great Gatsby" (1974) and "Hannah and Her Sisters" (1986) -- discusses her amazing career, shares behind-the-scenes stories and answers fan questions at her incredibly special 2019 Fan Expo Canada Q&A panel in Toronto.
María de Lourdes Villiers "Mia" Farrow (born February 9th, 1945) is an American actress, activist and former fashion model. Farrow has appeared in more than 50 films and won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe Award and three BAFTA Award nominations. Farrow is also known for her extensive work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, which includes humanitarian activities in Darfur, Chad and the Central African Republic. In 2008, Time magazine named her one of the most influential people in the world.
After working as a fashion model during her teenage years, she first gained notice for her role as Allison MacKenzie in the television soap opera Peyton Place (1964-1966). Her feature film debut in Guns at Batasi (1964) earned her a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year, and she gained further recognition for her subsequent two-year marriage to Frank Sinatra, whom she married at age 21. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse in the horror film Rosemary's Baby (1968) saw her nominated for a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. She earned a third Golden Globe nomination for her role in John and Mary (1969).
In 1971, Farrow became the first American actress in history to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing as Joan of Arc in a production of Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher. This was followed by stage productions of Mary Rose (1972), Three Sisters (1973), and Ivanov (1976). Farrow also starred in several films throughout the 1970s, notably as Daisy Buchanan in the 1974 film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, and Robert Altman's comedy A Wedding (1978).
Farrow began a relationship with filmmaker Woody Allen in 1979, and over a decade-long period starred in 13 of his films, beginning with A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982). She received numerous critical accolades for her performances in several of Allen's films, including Golden Globe Award nominations for Broadway Danny Rose (1984), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), and Alice (1990), as well as a BAFTA nomination for Hannah and Her Sisters (1986).
Since the 2000s, Farrow has made occasional appearances on television, such as a recurring role on Third Watch (2001-2003), and had supporting parts in such films as The Omen (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008), and Dark Horse (2011). She has also dedicated significant periods to raising her multiple adoptive and biological children, as well as participating in humanitarian efforts abroad, specifically regarding human rights in African countries.

Mia carried Rosemary's Baby on her shoulders under trying circumstances with Sinatra serving her divorce papers on set. A magnificent performance. I love this beautiful woman. Thank you Mia for what you said about suffering.

The emphasis of "maniacs" you can hear and tell from her voice that's all she has left in her poor soul. Best scene of any horror movie.

I caught her on TV this evening again in her 1990 film "Alice." Her whimsical Manhattan-based well-off housewife character, wardrobe and personality somehow just reminded me of a little more mature version of the Rosemary Woodhouse character, in a way.

"The Last Unicorn" is an under-appreciated masterpiece. The animation is beautiful and the story is something that I think adults will love more than children I think. Please, go check this film out. It's from 1982, 40 years old now and as of today, it's free on UA-cam. Beautiful film and I think of that film most when I think of Mia Farrow.

Absolutely fascinating stories! And such an obviously caring person and so honest. It’s so sad how they kind of made her out to look crazy during the whole divorce to Woody Allen. How the worm turns, though. .

Sucks that after the Woody Allen scandal in the early 90's, Mia ended up being blacklisted in Hollywood and no one wanted to hire her.
She may not have been the greatest actress in the world, but she's a legend, an icon!
Rosemary's Baby, The Great Gatsby, Death on the Nile, John and Mary and pretty much all the films she did with Allen.
It would be awesome for someone to offer her a great script and see her on the big screen again, or a great TV movie or miniseries.

Some trivia to y'all, mate: Farrow appeared in a 1963 featurette "Age of Curiosity", produced for "Seventeen" magazine.
By December 1965, Mia got rid of her long hair and adopted her short one.

Jane Fonda? Maybe. Jane might've been able to pull it off...maybe. But Robert Redford as "Guy"? I think not. I know that he's a likable person, and he's handsome (or was), and all that...But "Guy Wodehouse---The traitor turned Satanist"?? I don't know the backstory, but my guess is he turned the part down. `Course, I could be wrong. He did play a bad guy in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid", but, even then, he was a good guy (or anti-hero, if you will). The Character of "Guy" is a seriously despicable individual. I can't even picture him playing that role. And I'm glad he didn't take the part, whatever the reason might've been. John Cassevettes (sp?), as difficult as he might have been for Polanski, was a perfect fit to play "Guy".

I mean he did survive the Holocaust and his mother and wife died, pregnant.. it's horrible but I don't think it excuses him as well... He should have served time in jail because he can distinguish right from wrong he knew it wasn't right.
That being said it kinda pisses me off that I can't watch one of his movies without someone trying to teach a moral lesson each time ..you know how many people are in a movie ? I could watch Chinatown because I like Faye Dunaway and list goes on.
