I've not read the books, but Annihilation, the movie was amazing! The creatures, and DNA transformations are stunning. Also, love the animations and sound design / sound track are so unique. Certainly one of the most unusual Sci-Fi's I've ever seen. Arrival, is another amazing modern Sci-Fi. Great review.

I've seen the movie. One of my favorites. I have the trilogy book as well. Ive started then stopped it like 3 times. After hearing your review I went to my book case and grabbed it. Hoping to finish all three soon. Thanks!

While I’m commenting on your Easton video, I might as well do this one. On your recommendation, listened to Annihilation on a business trip last week. I liked it quite a bit, though slow in some parts. I couldn’t wait for my next trip to start Authority, so I bought that hardcover compilation. Halfway through. Definitely a tonal shift. A bit slower than annihilation, but am definitely hooked. Glad I watched the movie prior to the book, since I feel the movie would have not meant my expectations, and the movie spoils nothing about the book. My friend recommended Borne, so bought a HC of that. What book do you recommend to start on the world of Ambergris? Great author. Thanks for the recommendation.

so glad you are enjoying it! you'll have to let me know what you think of The Southern Reach when you've finished. I am going to read the Borne series later this year but not sure when. And with Ambergris def start with City of Saints and Madmen! A great collection of short stories that all correlate to the second and third book

@@WhytheBookWins You might might find it interesting that Bronson Pinchot does the reading for the Audiobooks for Authority, Acceptance, and City of Saints and Madmen. If you don't know who that is, he starred on a 80s sitcom called Perfect Strangers, as well as several movies, and the horrible TV adaptation of Stephen Kings The Langoliers.

@@benjaminrneal I remember looking him up and seeing he was an actor, but I didn't realize he was in a King adaptation! Sounds like it isn't one worth watching though haha

Really interesting. Great break down!!The movie was so damn good and weird. I wish they set things up for the adaptations to make them a trilogy.

Me too! It could also make a great TV show. I love the movie though, even though it differs from the books.

Desperately need to know what your thoughts are now that it has been confirmed that one of the three novellas that make up Absolution is going to have the answers you seek (won't say anymore bc idk how much spoilers you're happy with but jeff has confirmed a LOT on his twitter (and also insists that despite all the details he has shared, he still hasn't actually spoiled anything))

I am so excited for the new book! I will be re-reading the series beforehand and will have newer videos on it coming out later this year! As well as a video on the new book once i have read it of course 🙂

Great review, and thanks for not spoiling it! I LOVED the movie Annihilation, and am currently in the middle of reading the trilogy, thoroughly enjoying every bit of it. Are you familiar with the classic Russian movie Stalker, which is based on the book Roadside Picnic, both of which likely influenced the trilogy? I would recommend both, and though I did not love the book, it's worth reading just for the ideas. I must also mention a novella by the Polish sci-fi author Stanislaw Lem, "The Invincible." The theme is very similar to that of Annihilation, i.e. an encounter with an uncanny, alien presence. I had the pleasure of reading this book in its original Polish version, having been born in there, and I was truly astonished at the mind-bending ideas that Lem was coming up with in 1964, from behind the Iron Curtain no less!

I haven't heard of those but I will definitely look into them! Thanks for the recommendation and glad you liked the video 😁
