While attending the ZapCon 2024 Event in Mesa, AZ today I got to play the game a few times and wanted to show this machine off and give you my first impressions of it. Although not a full review hopefully this video will help you to know what to expect from this Pinball Machine and I hope you check it out at your nearest Arcade or Convention soon!

Let me know what you think of Barry O's Barbecue Challenge from American Pinball below!
I feel like when the team was brainstorming, somneone said "What's more American than BBQ?" ...and that's how it all started.
Lol I could totally see that!
As an operator, and showroom/arcade owner I can really appreciate that this company does not cut corners in regards to build quality . Sadly other manufacturers are doing so, and you can easily see it by taking a look at how much the machines weight. If it is less than 200lbs. try it before you buy it. Some of these new machines feel like toys compared to old school pinball machines; some do not. Try playing a machine made by a different manufacturer right before playing one from one of the biggest manufacturers and you will know exactly what I am talking about.. quality matters, and I hope the biggest manufacturers stop playing games with quality. Prices have dramatically increased across the board regarding the cost of new pinball machines, and I see lighter wood and cheaper materials, as well as less features such as powder coated armor, shaker motors, etc; this is not the case with American Pinball however... Nice job.
Thanks for sharing!
You keep saying EM, but this is a tribute to the system 11 and DMD era of Williams. Barry Oursler made some of the greatest solid state games of all time. Funny enough this layout looks shockingly close to Hot Wheels from American Pinball also. This game appears to be very operator friendly. No major mechs to break. I love the spinners on the ramps and the ball lock mechs looks unique, they don’t look like your typical saucer and from what I understand the locked balls become a bash target when they’re in there.
Thank you, yes I said EM twice but corrected it to solid state at the end, and yes the locked balls become bash targets which is pretty cool, thanks for the feedback and checking it out
It’s great for operators but for one thing… ain’t gonna be any money in it at collection time
@@iridedoyou I played it 20 times at Texas Pinball Festival. I’d put a couple bucks in it if it was at a location by me. It was fun enough. I’d never own it though.
ZEN studios take note: That LCD scoreboard built in near the kickers/slingshots makes perfect sense.
Yeah it's a pretty cool feature l, I didn't have to look at the DMD as much
Sometimes it's okay to not have so many gimmicky features. Looks like a fun table and the "American bbq" idea clicks with a lot of people. Great review!!!
Thanks Andy!
“You know for an original theme it’s….ok” 😂
Yeah nothing wrong with making something new versus another Hollywood IP, will it blow everyone's socks off? Nope
Great stuff thanks for sharing!! Excited to play, much love and pin ❤
No problem and thanks for watching!
Great video! thanks so much. Pinball definitely will miss Barry.
Glad you enjoyed it!
With a price tag of..... only 6999? I mean, what? 7k for a game with not a lot in it is still a ton of money.
Not cheap regardless, but nice to see a lower price versus other new pinball
I am not a fan of this game. I think it's forgettable in today's world. I think this should have been shelved as compared to looney tunes, labyrinth and Elton it's just kinda not wow exciting. BUT I did not know it was priced so low. This is the same price as ninja eclipse and tied for the cheapest pinball that's new. It's half of Elton John. So kudos to American pinball on taking a stance to make a cheaper game, yet keep the price so competitive as well. This definately deserves respect to help make the hobby more affordable as pinballs have become unobtanium... we shall see how people vote with their wallets and if it sells better than galactic.
Great job buddy, I like American Pinball's original IP stuff. Loved Galactic Tank Force and excited to try this one
Hope you enjoy it!
The vivid nature and d solid state throwback with the lighting and lcd screens on the playfield really make this a pretty impressive table . The pricing is fair and hope to play this at my local pin spot … Thanks for the video well done …
Thanks Dude!!
The pricing is awful. Same as a new Stern Pro. And there isn’t a single Stern Pro out there that I’d buy this heap before. The worst Stern Pro is more exciting than this hot garbage
Next time you're out to eat with the family, you can re-use the line "Looks like we completed one brisket!". I like the idea of this being a tribute to Barry based around his interests. I also like the little resurgence of more 'classically' designed games (like Pulp Fiction).
This game is really fun!
Appreciate the feedback!
Nice review man! This is a game I won't be preordering, but when one becomes available on the used market at resale pricing or maybe for trade, I'll absolutely grab it.
Get the grill ready!
Nice one👍
Thank you
Very interesting machine.
Other than my pending Pulp Fiction LE, I think I'm out of the new machine business while the market is correcting.
Barry made some of my all-time favorites like Jack*Bot and Cyclone. Can't wait to play this one.
Yeah check it out and let me know what you think
Love the lighting effects. There’s enough fire to look like some ribs and brisket on the grill. I like you dubs love a more open table. That’s not so gimmicked up.
Right on!
Fully expected you to drain it immediately after yelling, “Can’t stop PDubz!” 😂
Lol that would've been great!
Get that machine some voodoo glass that has more glare than a Maiden premium. Gameplay from what I can see looks fun. But they have to realize they are up against some big names this year coming out.
Why can’t AP just use a great theme. Frankenstein and Dracula are in the public domain since Fix says it’s difficult to get a license even though spooky doesn’t have any trouble.
AP Will be lucky to sell more than 20. AP just doesn’t learn, I mean Fix doesn’t learn. I guess they just refuse to want to make money.
It’s one thing if they were doing great like Spooky and do something like this. But they haven’t shown a profit in how long?
AP is now officially a boutique company, not far above Turner. The Princess Bride sales will blow this away.
The family better not expect much money from sales sadly. Game should be priced at $5500. Their BOM is pretty low on this.
At some point the money will stop coming in from Aimtron. Just can’t use AP as a tax write off forever. At some point they want to make money.
They needed a good licensed theme or they are done.
Appreciate the feedback!!
I would like to know how you are privy to their finances and internal sales numbers.
Hey I like bbq and all this Americana for sure - but zero chance I’d buy one and I suspect that’s the answer for 90% of folks.
Yes 90% of people don't buy pinball machines, just play them at their local Arcade every once in a while.
I think they’re hoping it’ll go into a lot of BBQ places. Though that sounds like a recipe for sticky buttons. You know kids and sloppy adults are going to get bbq sauce all over the thing.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft true but I meant 90% of pinball home owners. Just guys like you and I that have a small collection of pins.
@@thesmoness oh I misread 😅 my apologies! Totally get it now!
@@Retrosys The game should have a paper towel holder mounted under the coin door and ship with a box of wet naps. A rotisserie topper could be fun :)
I'd buy one....and turn into a BBQ!
Lol
1:24 what is that machine on the left?
Mystic from Bally. Actually, the story behind this BBQ game is interesting and there are I think 11 (12?) games designed by Barry Oursler that were given a nod to in this game, since he died before it came out. Mystic is not one of his games, the comparison should have been made with a Barry game, like Space Shuttle, which is probably the strongest influence of all the Barry games in this one. The lead designer, who took over after Barry died, loved Space Shuttle as a kid and coincidentally he got to work with Barry briefly at the start of this one.
does anyone repair older pinball machines anymore? desperate to find a reputable repair shop in the mid Atlantic area usa. thanks!
Best theme since the dominos pin.
Big Barbecue fan?
@@PDubsArcadeLoft heck yeah.
It actually would prefer a machine that wasn't so movie themed. I think a machine with Rock music makes the best one, if they are using the tunes at various stages. This one looks good, but not exciting enough.
Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
Nice game, but unfortunately just as expensive as Stern JAWs.
Yes yep
Thanks man!
No problem thanks for watching!
