I have had my virtual pinball machine for about six months now which I purchased from the Pinball King. It is his Kraken Plus model. I have since installed thousands of pinball tables onto the machine and could not be happier with the performance, quality or customer service he has provided.
In this video I talk about the benefits or pros and cons of each machine and which one I like better. If you are in the market for a pinball machine, I really think both an authentic or real pinball machine or virtual pinball machine have their unique place depending on multiple factors.
Well everyone, I hope you found today's video informative on virtual pinball machine vs real pinball machine. If you did, please consider giving this video a like, feel free to comment (I respond to all comments) and subscribe for more future informative videos.

I love your idea of having both, I'll probably go the same route once I have the money and more room. As far as the virtual pinball I love it, especially with all the modding you can do, from the playfield to the backglass, the color dmd and all the pup packs if you are using pinup popper. Really cool stuff! I'm very happy I got into this hobby and love my virtual cab!

I also now have an upgraded backbox with 3 screens. Next upgrade is adding the exciters and bass shakers. Unfortunately i know ill want a 4k playfield screen and the leds you have in yours but i would need to modify my cabinet. Its still a great setup though and i play it everyday. Im up to around 300 tables now which is enough to keep me busy for awhile. 👍

Absolutely agree with everything. What I hope to see for vpin is, like pinball on the Nintendo 3DS, a glasses-free stereoscopic experience. The display technology is there and I think it would be perfect for vpin.

This is super helpful and I plan to order that exact model! I was wondering if you could advise if that matrix lighting is as reflective in the video as it is in person. I’m just a little worried that the playfield is difficult to see but I’m hoping it’s just extra reflective in the video. Thanks for the help!

If you end up getting one, you won't be disappointed! The matrix is pretty bright and does reflect. You can turn it off if desired. You can also install a deflector which prevents the reflection from hitting the glass and playfield.

Great vid! I've got a vpin, star wars one and it is awesome, it was good to know from your video that the vpin could be upgradable with tv and new games added! I've also just purchased an old 1990 real pinball, the Diner one, so looking forward to playing that one too! I have a table top coke cola pinball machine, good for smaller spaces. I'm in Australia. I was sorry to read that Xtreme (in Australia?) ignored your emails and calls, very rude service for sure.

I’ve tried both worlds before. Had some nice machines like jersey jacks pirates, and attack from mars LE. And som other machines. I also had an Chinese virtual pinball machine. That one sucked. Was so bad . So I sold it quick. Now I’ve found few companies making nice virtual; pinball machines. But ended up with what I think makes the absolute best ones. Xtreme gaming cabinets from Australia. I’ve ordered a Premium model machine with a extra package called Titan package, it’s 144 hz gaming monitor, and 3080 graphic card. And a ryzen 9 computer. Only reason I’m going with Virtual pinball now is lack of space. I live in Sweden so the waiting time with shipping included is pretty long. Around 12 months. But still worth it because I haven’t found anyone els making better machines. So I really looking forward to get mine. It also have a 2in1 thing. So I can play 17.000 arcade games. Plus 2 Sinden lightguns for shooter games. So,it’s a full package machine. Ah and VR kit also.

    Thank you for your take.
I used to have 3 real pins in my living, swapping them at times, burning money in the process. All dot matrix from the 90´s.
If I may add one thing:
We only live once. I can spend forever playing all those virtual games; it is never finished. But if you choose one favorite pin, it gives you time to actually learn the machine in depth. Improve your game, instead of aimlessly and superficially browsing between 1000+ games. You´ll probably end up with one or two favorites anyway, and that´s what a Vpin is great for: To figure out which real life pins you want to buy. (My dream pinball used to be Stargate, but when I finally got one I was quite dissapointed. While Dr. Who, despite its terrible art, surprisingly became my fav.)
I don´t know about you guys, but it´s hard for me to bond with a TV screen, compared to an actual vintage machine: Trying to keep things going, get your hands dirty and curse once in a while :)
Whether it´s games, cars or dating, there´s a time for browsing and a time to be decisive. That Vpin is great, but as you said: The experience of the real deal is totally worth it.

I'm currently debating between getting one from the pinball king or from xtreme in australia. They seem like they have truly the best one. 120 hz monitor, fully upgraded pc with 2060 and ryzen cpu, 2 terabytes storage vs 256 ssd for pinball king. The components are just hands down better. But then you deal with the shipping cost and the lag time. It's probably between 6-12 months to get it.

I hear what you are saying. I may upgrade to a 120hz monitor in thr future. Can't speak for the computer components. But before I purchased I reached out to Xtreme through email and multiple voicemails saying I was interested in purchasing. I never heard back from them. Maybe they are too busy but it put a bad taste in my mouth. I called pinball king and he got back to me by the end of the day and was eager to answer all my questions. This combined with being more local made me go with him.

You hit the nail on the head in this video. Actual physical pinball is amazing. But digital has many advantages as well. I felt lucky before when I had 2 machines at one time in my game room in my full size house. Now I can play hundreds of tables in my tiny game room. Are they 100% the same? • @JMGENTERPRISES

I would say as my game sits, its about 75% as real as the authentic MM. There are many tables of MM available and they all play/look a bit different. The sound is spot on. The bumpers and shakers make it really believable as well as they fire so quickly. I heard the pinball king is now including 120Hz monitors if desired. I recently got one of these and will be installing it soon. The higher Hz rate is supposes to eliminate the ball lag which is kind of noticeable on my current 60Hz monitor. HDMI cable "quality" isn't really an issue unless you're using long cable runs, and in that case you just don't get a signal, it's not like analog cables where you can see signal loss/static etc. - the only thing I can think of is that the display uses a high refresh rate and you were using a first-gen HDMI cable where IIRC you need HDMI 2.0+ or better to support high refresh.

Is live music better than what you can get out of your phone/streaming services? Absolutely. But to eschew non-live music completely since concerts are better doesn't make sense to me. Virtual pinball provides a number of benefits over real - mainly you can play pretty much any table you want! My virtual cab is a way better investment than a real machine that costs the same or double for a machine I would really love. There are so many aspects of pinball that are replicated on virtual - art, sound, design, gameplay, etc that I can enjoy with a TV screen over a real ball. The realization that it's virtual disappears quickly after starting a game because I am locked in. My 4k 120hz setup helps that of course :-)

These comparisons remind me of guitar amplifiers. The new digital modeling amps have been around for about 20 years and, have the capability of modeling a bunch of classic tube amps inside just one cabinet. To the ears of a guitar hobbyist, they can get close , however a tube amp purist usually isn't convinced, and to them it sounds too digital and phony, compared to the real thing, side by side. Still, these new digital modeling amps are obviously really versitle, and include a bunch of effects, eliminating the need for additional external guitar pedals . A classic tube amp will continue to appreciate in value, and are a LOT more expensive for a good one, compared to a digital modeling amp. The digital modeling amps aren't considered collectables and can very well become more obsolete as the technology continues to improve, although there hasn't been any real advancements over the last 10 years. So, If you want an amp to be an investment, a quality tube amp is the way to go, especially if your happy with that one great tone. Most players, however , really don't care much about the resale value of their amp, They want what's best for their needs for the moment. One good digital modeling amp covers a lot of ground.

Nothing... really works as nice as a real machine. Obviously. But virtual pinball is a different animal. With lights and feedback and visual extras and MANY tables it does make sense. I had Indiana Jones, Cirqus Voltaire, and Theater of Magic. I did beat them ALL the time and got bored with them. They also tripled in price from what I paid so I sold them to pay my mortgage during the pandemic. Ugh. But seriously, when a mechanical failure happens... or a solenoid burns... you do super freak out with your pricey machines. Then you have to quickly become an electronics expert and soldering and board finding internet wizard to fix the darn things. Yup, REAL machines are totally worth it. But if you don't play them or get bored, it is $30,000 worth of toys sitting in your basement. (that do go up in value). Gosh I miss my Indiana Jones. I still have 5 machines, Elvira being one of them. It is hard to go back to virtual pinball when you realize how much you are missing. I also have a virtual pin that I built but as good as it gets, it is NO comparison.

Nice! Those are awesome pins to own! I love Indian Jones and Theatre of Magic too. But yes, spendy machines to have sitting around. But awesome they appreciate in value unlike virtual. But yes I tol get bored with my Medieval Madness after a while. Still, would rather have the money in a pinball machine than bank. What does your virtual pinball look like? How big is the playfield etc?

Rewatch. Love hearing comparisons. My machine is a Scorpion Williams Wide Body converted to 3 screen Vpin. 50 inch screen just BARELY fits in its ultrawide 27 inch widebody. It looks more old school since it isn't as deep as other newer cabs. I put Tales of the Arabian Nights official stickers on the side and backbox but had to mod it to fit the front. Topper has all my main toys from my machines like Theater Trunk, Indiana Jones Fertility Goddess, Ringmaster Voltaire, Genie, Genie Bottle, A SWAG Genie Lamp. White Tiger, Magician Hand, Magic Hat with rabbit, Elvira signed art, Spell book, lights. 5.1 sound. Would like to add solenoids and I have the 4k screen sitting next to it but I need to upgrade PC.Woofer Shaker Fan Undercab lights Like to add DOF and Pinup... whew I think I do have a lot@@JMGENTERPRISES

Real Arcades don't exist. They are Bar arcades with massively loud music and other people and you cannot enjoy even a real pinball machine. I spent over $25 on a Jersey Jack pirates REAL machine and I couldn't hear any of the sound as the bar was blasting music. They are all arcade bars. The real machines do have to be maintained well. A lot of them out in the world pay and play are trashed and have a lot of broken or glitchy problems.

I hear ya. That is one of my pet peeves is loud gatherings. Especially bars and nightclubs where the music is deafening. I want to be able to hear the games I am playing. Or hear the person(s) I am talking too. But I guess I am outnumbered and loud will always be a thing. Jersey Jack does make sound cool tables but yeah, I agree...if you can't hear them...that really takes away from it.

Many modern machines have headphone jacks, all Jersey Jack machines. If you cant afford the 20k a JJP POTC you gotta deal with other people in public I guess

Yeah some of the old machines are going to get harder and more pricey as time goes on I've got a VPN from a different company but what I find interesting is the old gottleb tables were hard to play but I've gotten better as time went on and feel my playing skill is twice as good at playing pinball then it ever has been so VPN tables do have a place.

I like old mechanicals and virtual I saw the new stern and tried them there's a lot of slop and they wernt challenging I've they looked nice but I got bored with them in 10 minutes of playing what fascinates me of the vps is the old gottlieb games . At first seeing how wide most flippers were apart I thought I would not be able to make a high score but I became better and I felt like it was challenging that's why I like vps I get to play the old games.
