- You've got to have a block plane and the Stanley 9-1/2 is the long time standard. I do a comparison of these 2 very similar planes. Both are standard angle adjustable mouth block planes. The 9-1/2 a Stanley classic, the 12-920, a made in England newer counterpart.

just bought a old 9-1 for 30€, mostly because of the lateral adjustment , didn't got it yet, hope it will be decent tho.. also the adjustment system just look interesting haha
Thanks for the comment, you will like the 9 1/2 it’s a classic. No the blades are not interchangeable, thanks again for watching.
@@makingthings1463 thanks for the reply, i hope the blade will be in good condition then :)
They made that version of the American one here in England, too , I have one it's like new, and I have the USA Stanley No 18 Knuckle lever cap, and many more.
Roy, thank you for the comments. Great to hear from another plane collector. Thanks again for watching.
Thanks. I have the Stanley 12-920 that is in good shape, but do not see a replacement blade on Amazon. Do you know where I can get one?
Have you tried going straight to Stanley. Some of these others may fit and Amazon is easy with returns.
Sorry not much help.
Also, are new blades ok with the old model?
No, the blades are not interchangeable
I have the “English” version but the marking also say 9 1/2. I was curious to see how you set the desired mouth opening.
Thank you for the comment. Mostly by trial and error. I think the goal is as small a mouth opening as you can use without getting shavings jammed up but that is coming from me, a novice. Thanks again for watching.
