They are...they run through the tunnel as soon as we open the door, so much so that they sometimes get stuck when two or three try to go at the same time. LOL
Cute to see you working with your hubby. I assist my husband too. What breed are the chickens. I had 10 ISA Brown but just recently gave them to a friend on a farm due to a couple of long trips planned. From fall until spring garden planting time, they were free range. They have a very large run but they'd pecked it clean. I had my husband put up temporary fencing that could be moved easily to fresh grass. They accessed right from the door to the run. It definitely wouldn't work for you because of predators. We're surrounded by farm fields and haven't had a problem. I'm sure they are enjoying free range once again on the farm. Your run 2 looks very secure. We ended up having 3 runs. Run 1 was top security, 1/4 inch hardware cloth, run 2 is chicken wire and run 3 was the temporary moveable run. What we don't do for the girls! Expensive eggs but ohh so much healthier than store bought.
Our ladies are a Rhode Island Red Cross. They looked a little raggedy in the video because they are molting right now. So nice that your hens can free range! If we do that, we might as well put bibs on the coyotes. The images on the thumbnail are all from our trail cam that was set up right beside our coop last year. The coyote doesn't look like he's missing many meals. We also had a huge red-tailed hawk take one of ours last year, so we knew we needed overhead netting as well as sides. I agree about what we won't do for our girls! LOL But the eggs are totally worth it!
The ladies are totally loving it! The minute we lift the door, they run through the tunnel to peck and scratch all day. The one we got was by TMG. I think they are based in Vancouver but have a distributor in Seattle, I think. They are pretty pricey but I don't really trust the quality of the ones from China. We were lucky enough to get this one at an auction at a really reduced price.
what a lovely happy video. your girls sounded so pleased to be out!
