  • Should you Bow the Wrist
Steve Buzza discusses the wrist positioning at the top of the backswing and whether a bowed (flexion) position is going to help your game.

I had early extension on my swing, and I bow my left wrist at the top of my backswing and I also have a fast movement, and worked for me really good. I can say, that when I play good GOLF is when I bow my left wrist "Naturally" without thinking if you know what I mean? I changed it, because I wanted to have a straight left wrist parallel with the head of the club at the top of my backswing. I am 1 handicap and like I said, I am fast coming down.

Why is it that if my wrist is too cupped, I always end up hooking to the left? If at the top of my backswing I feel it is cupped, I know I'm in trouble. On the other hand if I feel that stronger bowed feeling, it will generally be a better drive for me?

likely you have an over the top steep swing, and you have fast hands, so if you don't bow at the top to help the club come more from the inside because you are in effect laying it off with the bow, then your steep over the top fast hands creates the pulled draw - ie you aren't able to start the ball right of target - which you need to do if you play a draw.

well said.. i think if you've been doing it all your life then it's fine but I don't think it's realistic for an amateur to suddenly switch to that and expect good result without tons of work or worst, an injury!
