    Miniatures Star Wars games from FFG (Legion/Armada/X-Wing) are under Atomic Mass Games now (another company under Asmodee, they are the guys behind Marvel Crisis Protocol).
    AMG released Shatterpoint, which is basically Marvel Crisis Protocol with a Star Wars twist on it. Legion and Shatterpoint models are not at the same scale, so not really compatible sadly..
    It is not a FFG decision to switch the miniatures games over to AMG, and to release another game "similar" to legion... It's more of a managing decision from Asmodee and a desire from AMG to produce their own Star Wars game rather than continuing FFG's. They focus more on hobby compared to FFG in general. You are right, it is weird to sell two similar model lines that are not compatible..
    Now, Star wars Unlimited is great, played at two prerelease events last weekend. Hoping the community and FFG will support the game properly!

      Very nice I had a blast at my prerelease. Only down side was they set it up the same day they were having a fallout commanders release party so we ended up being a second thought even to the guy running the prerelease.

    What do you mean by bear market? It seems to me people are buying as much as they can of Lorcana and Pokemon. I don t know much about MTG but I m not sure TCGs are in a bear market now

  • @gorganiangranola

    Actually the tough thing with TCGs seems to be that people don't necessarily even search for good games. They can do with decent and even rather bad and derivative games they just have to find any marginal reason to become invested. Like there's fresh gameplay systems out there by comparatively trustworthy publishers but most people will badmouth them without a second thought.
    And well yeah SWU will certainly be decent. But like you say the IP is rather boring and entering the market at this point is asking to fail, really not sure what to take from this.

    Don't care about Star Wars, dont like Fantasy Flight, and new TCGs are not something I'm interested in if I don't like the IP or the gameplay ia actually interesting (like Decipher's Lord of the Rings).
    Also, the competitive scene must be REALLY good, for people to care and gather at LGS.. at least if gameplay isn't apecial (or multiplayer).

    Not to be that guy, but the way you use speculation vs. investing is wrong. The distinction is with speculation is that it's putting money into a commodity and hoping it goes up, investing on the other hand is putting money into a productive asset that can change with time. As such, you can not invest in a card, you can only speculate, but you are right that pump and dump hype speculation is worse than long term speculation based on health of the game.

    There's so much competition among TCGs and only so many fans of card games. I think Lorcana might grow the pool of TCG collectors and players, but a good many of those will probably just stick with Lorcana. Tough market!

    I think your spot on with Fantasy flight. Every tcg they touch dies. I have all of the their L5R cards and some of the Star Wars dice game. I remember them nearly killing UFS back in the day. So given it's makers history I am going to be really careful buying in despite how much I like Star Wars.

    I've heard you talk about this a lot but the way you phrased it in this video makes it sound the dumbest you've ever said it. Why the fuck should the government care about the prices and market of collectibles when weighing whether they should help support out of work people during a (hopefully) once in a lifetime pandemic, when the companies who employed them sure aren't gonna keep them alive. Besides the fact that if we had better social safety nets and regulation to keep people a base level of fed, healthy, and housed. People who share your view of economics and libertarianism really are something. You really think the government should have considered this specific niche of the market in decisions like these? Wild.

    • @BWBLester
      @BWBLester 2 місяці тому

      I agree that some of the higher income households didn't need the extra expendable income especially when they were more likely to be able to work from home but then people of your same view would complain that it wasn't "fair" so ilar to student loan relief.

    • @roguedeckbuilder
      @roguedeckbuilder 2 місяці тому

      When did I say the government should care about collectibles or even mention anything remotely like that? I specifically said that injecting free money with no care or foresight into the economy crashed many markets, destroyed peoples' savings and inflated away so much wealth, as well as causing dutch tuliping and out of control speculation - which in turn caused idiot manufactures like WotC to try and exploit the short term insanity. It is going to take years now before we have any stability in ANY market, especially things like housing. And bite me with the "supporting workers out of work" because of the pandemic, that was a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of fraud that happened because of free money. The poor suffered the most because of these policies and the rich and corrupt made out like bandits. Housing and food are now not affordable BECAUSE of these idiotic policies. But yeah, blame libertarianism (which I am really not a true libertarian)... we sure are something wanting responsible government....

    This game, much like every Star Wars Game...is dead on arrival. The costs for rights to produce it are so high that it eats up all the profits. And to be honest...lets review all the previous Star Wars Games, regardless of board game, dice game, card game or miniatures game, they have all been short lived. Usually they release a low number of product wave one, attempt to build hype and hunger from game store owners and online sellers by causing a shortage of product. Then they mass print wave two, and the retailers jump the gun and buy more than they can handle and the stuff sits on the shelf and watches the next 3x star wars games come and go and eventually join them on the shelves of dead product as the company (especially Asmodee) creates a product, force feeds it, takes the cash flow from release wave 2 and then dumps the game never to support it again. Often times trading off the rights to the Star Wars franchise to another company for a year, just to use that as a scape goat, and just to take it back in a year or two and repeat the same crap. I avoided it at all cost, my closest two competitors brought in about 1k worth each wholesale, and their release nights had less than 5 folks each. Not a good start, from a company that is notorious for failing and abandoning its product lines and doing mass dumps on amazon under an alias.

      A local shop is one thing, events come and go. But when you get 20 motivated players, and 4 boxes of cards...and no chance for a restock, and wave to is unclear... it is unlikely to get a large following, if it survives past this year. Just my opinion. And was turned off when I asked to place a 10k order for it...and the distributor told me I would be lucky to get 4 cases..And come shipping time, they offered me 2 cases...I can not do anything as a shop with two cases...except piss off customers.@@rawkyle9385
