Great map! Honestly enjoyed having the ambience ever-looming in the background, as if it were in the players head. Fit in with a headcanon of a lot of the scares being psychic in origin and the only real ones being the enemies that do actual damage, as if the player was being tenderized from fear and adrenaline for taste.
that ambient sound was so long lasting that after i paused the video i kept hearing it for several minutes and just never thought about it until i was like "... wait a damn minute" then the sound went away lmao
Yeah. Also I admit VoTV can definitely get old. Librarian makes it interesting, but the mysteries presented in the average Gmod map usually interest me more simply because they’re self contained and usually *not* just Easter eggs dedicated to one UA-camr or another. I do love VoTV but man are many of the things you can do in the game right now is kind of… random and unrelated to anything. Most mysteries don’t have an answer or even any thread to follow. Which is fine, I just wish some of them had more to them.
I began watching in 2021, because of GMOD VR. I was looking for good GMOD VR let's plays, because i can't play VR myself because of motion sickness. My sister in law has a high end VR setup with space and a dozen of sensors, but i can't use it without causing a half digested food geyser. When watching youtubers from the U.S., i often struggle to understand certain cultural references and words, but here it seems to be easy going. The only confusion i had was, when a salami pizza was called pepperoni, which is a spicy vegetable 🌶 where i live.
8:14 - This is the type of scare that I absolutely love. It doesn't jump into your face, doesn't make any loud noises, nor does it just appear behind you. It's simply further in the distance, mostly unmoving & just staring.
This may sound stupid.. but I’ve been there. The hallway with windows around 15:39. I remember a dream where I was walking through those specific halls, although it was going the other way. On a less serious note, the dream ended by me getting jumpscared by Weegee and the version of Mario in the same style. (This was at least 8 years ago)
The sound design overall is really good, and that humming is definitely very creepy... buuut it just became intensely annoying when it never stopped after the first area and continued throughout the WHOLE thing, and it honestly might have even been a bug since it didn't even stop once the map ended?
For me it was the opposite. Creepy at first but it became background noise until the first jumpscare then there it was again. Then it faded into the background, lather rinse repeat. It wasn’t until the end room that it became obtrusive. Weird.
@@markfergerson2145 Yeah, I think I was a LITTLE harsh in my original comment, because it did occasionally fade into the background, but even then, when I noticed it again it was immediately annoying again (only mildly annoyinh, but still), and it didn't enhance or get enhanced by any of the jumpscares But I'm also glad to hear that my experience isn't universal and it actually worked for other people, I think this kind of thing must just be grating for me
20:00 to 20:19 was great, esp hearing, "I'm stuck on the doorframe" 3 or 4 times really quick while in panic mode. 😆😂 I liked your statement about "loud noises." I've always liked it when the noise level, with headphones, tv, radio, whatever, is just loud enough so I can still manage to hear any outside sounds/other sounds besides what my focus is on. In other words I want to be able to be aware of any bad people so they don't sneak up on me. 😳😀
The phenomenon you mentioned around 17:00 where something can bother us and we go back to normal is called hedonic adaptation. It makes it all the more crazy when you find out there is an actual term for it
This was reminding me so much of Resident Evil Revelations. While Lickers aren't present in that game, I think seeing one is good enough confirmation that the creator of the map is probably into RE and it's possible that they took inspiration from that game. There's definitively a lot of similar enviroments, like the tight corridors with the pattern walls, the library full of blind corners, the everpresent stormy night outside, the harsh switch from almost cozy places to very cold and industrial looking areas, even a maze with water (or blood in this case) up to waist level.
Hello, Librarian. Big fan here. I'm not sure if you take suggestions, but a few days ago I came across a map in VRChat called "The Library of Babel" by Mahu that immediately made me think of your content (also because you are THE librarian). It is a simple liminal map with not much to it, but it blew my mind with its technological scale and on its atmosphere. I felt like an old-timey author who had stumbled upon something cosmic and it's been gnawing on my mind ever since.
I just came across a guy playing 'Harold Halibut'. Apparently, he (the UA-camr) is a master of voice like you. It's a 14 year in making game and absolutely mind blowing. That game is made for you and philosophy of current events is your specialty. Please play it for us.😊😊
Great horror adventure. The only thing I'd say is a weak point is that ambient singing noise. It stays present for a bit too long and becomes an irritant instead of being unsettling.
Hello Librarian. I know this is not a Votv video but I just wanted to give you some good advice with Arirals or as you like to say, cat girls. When you spot the treehouse they've build, if you drop shrimp packs in you will gain reputation points, 5 to be exact with each pack. I remember there being a command to check your reputation status with them. If your reputation with them is high enough, when you sleep one of the Arirals will feed you yogurt if your hunger is low. Hope this helped you somewhat. Love your Votv series. While I'm writing this comment I'm watching the fifth episode of season 2.
Also if you type "ariral.pls" it will spawn a slapper ariral that will come at your base and attacks you. It's the same thing that happened when you steal stuff from their camp, you can throw packs of shrimp at the ariral to gain reputation.
I'm pretty new to Gmod. Anyone know of any medieval horror maps, or if Gmod even has access to such assets from a high fantasy game? Think Viscera Clean-Up Dungeon minus goals & objectives.
You could search up horror and medieval in the Workshop to see if any comes up, and I don’t know to be honest, all I know is there’s addons that add fantasy stuff
Last night I saw a video for something called "Nanashi no Game." It looked like something The Librarian would enjoy, but it's apparently for the Nintendo DS, & I don't know if a ROM is available, especially with Nintendo going ham on ROM sites, & I'm also not entirely convinced it's not a fake game for an ARG. Can anyone clarify?
thank you for playing my map, that ambient sound should have ended long ago but some scripts just didn't work due to vr mod, couldn't predict that

That jpeg/png was kinda corny though. No hate but my opinion.
Aurora Borealis? At this time of day? Localized entirely within your forest? Yes.
