Started with a batch of jelly 30 years ago and I can hundreds of jars a year now... So many soups for family, beans, pumpkin, brotha, meats, etc. Did 25 jars today.... Tomorrow I think I'll do potatoes. And then I share them with others. You'd think I was delivering gold when I drop it all off! Don't be scared... It starts with just one jar.

I love having soup in the shelf. Just add noodles or rice, thickening if needed and you have a meal. Making chicken pot pie from canned jar for tonight. I have black bean from Red Rose, chicken soup, chicken pot pie, ham and bean. Always looking for more ideas. Enjoyed your video.

Jen what I do is can qts of carrots and celery mix or just celery, carrots and just chicken. I raw pack the chicken. I also can broth. Then when I want to make soup I grab what I need for the specific soup and it cooked in no time. When I get extra veggies I try really hard to can them up so they won’t go bad since I don’t have farm animals to feel the extra too. This is just an idea for you so you are not double canning like the broth. We love lots of veggies in our soups.I love watching what you do. Great job you guys

It’s funny that you mentioned the color of the soup…I roasted 2 turkeys in a roaster for the first time this year and used the carcasses as well as some chicken bones I’d been saving in the freezer for broth. It’s a big toaster, I think 22 quart and I let it go for two days. The broth was darker than any I’d done before and it caught me off guard a bit. The flavor was great. I have never canned with a pressure canner so I’m a little concerned but not because I don’t think it’s safe, just the lack of ease because it’s new to me. We ate the soup for a meal right away and unfortunately I added the noodles before I remembered I couldn’t can them. I’ll do more broth with the intent to can it. Nice video, thank you.

Great info for beginners on canning and making soup. I agree that now and through the winter is a great time to can. I have been cooking all morning to make meals to freeze. I have used three quarts of turkey stock, one veggie stock and a pint of turkey breast today. It warms my heart when I can go to my pantry and find the home canned ingredients I need. I have a pot of soup cooking for dinner on the stove top right now!
P.S. I will send you a Christmas card!

I do it in quarts and Pints the pints are nice size for family members or when we get the food to people and they want to take it with them on the go. I love how your kitchen is always full of fun busyness and yes winter time to add not only foods to your pantry but the smells and the warmth in the house it's the best. Wonderful video....I've been canning like crazy! I've learned so much over the last 2 years! I had only canned (actually just prepped stuff for my step mom) when I was 14. But, I've learned so much more beyond that now! Anyone can do it if I can. Yesterday I canned 14 quarts of my own potatoes. So, go for it everyone! Even if you have little mistake, it's no big deal...just eat that stuff right away and rejoice in the jars that sealed for your long term storage. It's a fantastic skill to have. Best wishes and God Bless you all richly.

The older one’s use to did blow, the reason I say this is because my great grand parents both full blooded Cherokee Indians my mommies grand parents we’re canning and it exploded and they both died from the injuries of it! The fact is it was horrible accident, they scolded and impaled by the glass jars! They only lived half a day after it happened. It was one of the worst things that happened to our family and every other family member whom canned took every precaution possible when it came to canning or using any any type of pressure cooking after that. I do realize that things are different now, even possibly safer. But to this day I have been able to feel safe around pressure canners just because of what happened when I was a child.
