Okay y’all I know “the photos show you what color to make the square” Obviously I made the first square in those colors. But there are no other color instructions for all of the other squares. That was my point of saying there aren’t color instructions.
Not only do these crochet kits need a skill level indicator on the box, they also need to make sure that it is in a color and font that is, EASY TO SEE.
I know another market for this kit: The crocheter that's bored on a vacation. They didn't bring a project for whatever reason (weren't "allowed", forgot, current WIP is too much to bring along, etc), but saw this in Target and picked it up to knock out over the weekend stay somewhere. My mom and i used to do this frequently when we went up north for a weekend during the summer. Heck the craft stores around the touristy town we went to knew people wanted kits like this and had some made up.
@@Lady_dromeda I saw those redheart ami kits at walmart yesterday. And some other brand in the "grown up" kit area. This is in the US though so maybe Canada is different? The kits I can't remember the name of has a cool ami-mushroom kit I would have bought if I weren't saving for xmas gifts.
I bought this kit and i have to say even though i wholeheartedly agree with your accurate review of it, frustrations and all, it still got this complete beginner into crocheting! After I stumbled my way through this kit I bought better materials and started looking up patterns to make more stuff because finishing/figuring out the cute bag gave me confidence that I can definitely crochet more stuff with better instructions and materials!
@@Tfwcrochet honestly I’m surprised too 😅 I think the strap part is the worst part of the instructions like you said. I don’t think I made it the way they intended either. I ended up slip stitching it together after starting the double crochet from the other side.
Given that the Mondo Llama "brand" (yes, it's a Target label) is positioned in stores near the kids/toys section, the assumption is that it is a craft kit for beginners cause most kids aren't going to be at an adv.beginner or intermediate level. The market demographic was probably 8-13 year old girls given it's colorway and how trendy crochet bags are right now. But that's just my thoughts on it ❤
If you look on Targets site they said the kits were made for families. I learned to crochet when I was 7/8 yrs old. I think even then these terrible instructions would have made it hard & I would have needed my mom or grandmas help.
My daughter and granddaughter wants me to teach them how to crochet. I've been thinking about the granny squares to start with. I also have a super easy pattern for an Afghan or pillow. Double crochet and chaining which you braid. Beautiful
I’ve never understood the interest in a crochet kit, EXCEPT for maybe a beginner who doesn’t have the supplies. I do appreciate your review though and can understand why people would be intrigued! I definitely watched all the way through even though I’d never buy one 😂 As an experienced crocheter we already have hooks, yarn and access to patterns. So they absolutely should be targeting to beginners IMO! I do think you did a beautiful job with your honest review and it actually is really cute! 🥰
When I was working at my LYS we had some cashmere colorwork kits, and those were cool because you got a bunch of different colors of cashmere for the price of one regular skein of cashmere, but it didn't include tools, just the cashmere and a booklet with a few colorwork patterns, there was enough yarn for any one of the patterns. I think kits like that are great for non-beginners, I'd say I'm like, advanced/intermediate, and I really loved knitting up one of the samples because I learned some new stitches for the pattern and I got to use a bunch of cashmere. We also had kits with just one saguaro beanie pattern, and some of the kits had the yarn for the "sunset saguaro" and some had the yarn for the "springtime saguaro" and I think those were nice too, because the yarn and pattern separated would have cost more. That also did not include tools... Otherwise, yeah, kits are for beginners
For someone who's not a beginner, I think a kit could be useful for the pattern. If you have decent experience, you can always change out yarns n other options to make it your own. Just my opinion why it would or could be useful to someone other than a beginner.
Some kits are exclusive and the only way to get a particular pattern. This actually annoys me because maybe i want to make this design but want different colors or fibers. I follow some non US designers who do glorious CALs and offer kits for the yarn packs, but the pattern is still available by itself. But Annie's and Mary Maxim have both offered kits for certain designs and the individual pattern isn't available. Hoooked also offers amigurumi kits, which I've only bought on clearance, for the yarn and access to that particular pattern. But the pile of unwanted bamboo hooks that I've amassed... wow! I give them away, once i collect enough. Ha!
I learned from wobbles and immediately moved on to way harder things. It was just my style of learning. I might get another one up one day for a long flight or something
sometimes its nice to not have to round up a bunch of colors in a good brand yourself, I also may pick up a kit if I really like a pattern and it's not for sale elsewhere or free
The instruction confusion does introduce a beginner into the world of crochet. Other than amigurumi patterns, I don't think I've had a single project where I'm not confused by at least one instruction. If you're getting into crochet, it's just part of the craft.
I agree, I was also confused but was able to figure it out and I enjoyed making the bag, actually I'm not quite done yet lol I just stumbled upon this video but it is quite fun and for someone who never made granny squares before I think it went pretty well frustration is part of learning and sometimes trying out a kit on vacation or just for fun is a refreshing challange even for those who aren't beginners
the deleted hate comment is crazy. Such a random comment and them immediately deleting it? They must've just had a bad day and sent a hate comment and was like wtf did i just post and immediately deleted it
ive unfortunately done this once or twice, but not with hate comments to the creator, rather with replies to people. something they say triggers me and i comment something not necessarily hateful but just ridiculously silly and i'm like.. well that's embarassing from me.. delete.
I'm currently working on a sunflower granny squares tote. I'm about to start the straps. I'll be looking on UA-cam for ideas. My tote is huge. I plan on lining it. It will be a first for lining a tote. Lol 😊 I enjoyed the review. It's cute! The colors are pretty. I'm not great at pattern reading that's why I look on UA-cam for tutorials but I am learning. I agree that the instructions could have been better. I don't care for the strap either. 😮 I'm a new subscriber to your channel. See ya later! Thanks 😊
For flies. Fill a spray bottle with soapy water that you would feel comfortable spraying anywhere in your house. Hit the fly with the soapy water. It will stun it long enough where you can then hit it.
thank you for showing us this kit,, i went the lazy route and buy canvas bags from hobby lobby and use it for the lining in my crochet bags lol,, also the sharp metal needle i use all the time, it really grabs those fibers and tucks them in tight
I am old enough to remember when Target used to actually sell needlecraft supplies and when they stopped. Maybe they will get back into the market, and this is just a first step. I also remember when Walmart decided to stop selling fabric and yarn! That didn't work out so well for them.
I did too. Got all of my yarn from Wal-Mart for years. Then they just yanked it. I'm just thankful for Hobby Lobby and Michaels - the two craft stores I get all of my craft stuff now.
I never knew that some Walmarts don’t sell yarn. All the ones around me still have a yarn section. And you can buy a lot of sewing and needlework supplies too. I think the only thing you can’t buy is fabric. They do have some but there in small pieces
My local Walmart still has fabric and yarn!! We have a whole aisle of printed cotton fabrics- the yarn isn't a great selection but they had all the basic solid colors
Ik this prolly isn’t going to help but girl there is nothing for you to be self conscious about. I just found ur channel, subscribed within 3 minutes, and turned on all notifications from you! I was also telling my husband how beautiful you are and that I love your voice. ❤someone was probably having a bad day (not that it’s an excuse to leave hate comments) but at least the person deleted it. So glad I found ur channel! You’re so lovely to watch. ❤ Edit: p.s. I’m glad I found one other person in the world who is afraid of horse flies!! @@-moonlightt this comment is so sweet and means so much to me. Makes me want to keep making content for people like you ❤️❤️❤️ And I don’t hate allll bugs but horse flies are so scary lol
You need to be happy for what you are. You are YOU, no matter what. Took me years to figure that out, and once I did, I am glad I did. Everybody is unique, and that is good.
I've had 4-5 comments like that over the the past few years, some criticizing my physical appearance, another my mannerisms. I delete the comments (so I i don't keep going back to them and swirling into a downward spiral), block the commenter, and move on. The bag assembly instructions reminded me of a pair of slippers i made once. I had to literally tape numbers onto each square in order to decipher the sewing instructions!
@@ElainefromPenguinPlaceCrafts I’m sorry you’ve gotten some bad comments. Deleting and blocking is probably the best move. That sounds funny with the slippers. I’m still waiting for someone to tell me what I did wrong on this bag lol
Aww I’m so sorry you’ve gotten comments that could have made you spiral. Please remember, anyone that puts you down is already below you….so use them as a stepping stone to get higher (step on their faces you’ll feel even better 😂) ❤ I just subbed to you
i got this recommended, I don't crochet I knit, I had to laugh at the Fiona comment. I am a teacher and I have had students call me Snape all the time and I LOVE IT
@@teysa.k thanks for watching even though you don’t crochet. I hope you still liked it! I still watch some of the knitting videos that get recommended. UA-cam doesn’t seem to be able to tell the difference haha. That is so funny they call you snape 🤣
Omg this video makes me feel so validated lol. I’m exactly at the last step of connecting the end of the strap to the other side and I got sooo frustrated trying to connect it and have it not look ugly! This is my first time crocheting ever- I bought the kit bc I just wanted to give it a try but I mostly relied on yt and TikTok vids to learn! At least I know now that I do enjoy it and plan to buy a better kit and yarn :)
My thought for the sewing directions.. do the black lines fist. Once sewn together in the pattern shown, sew the red lines together. The only way to sew that seam is to fold the project in half the long way. Then sew the blue line..
I’m 72 and I just found your channel & love it. You are so sweet and I enjoy watching you. I subscribed right away. I could listen to you all day. ❤️from Grandma Brenda
Hello I am new to your channel. I enjoyed your review of the kit & think You were very honest about everything. So I was reading on the Target site and this line was created during Covid for families to craft together. That said I agree that is kit is Not made for beginners in mind due to the poor instructions. So when a crochet square pattern has the the squares arranged on point like this what works well is to start right down the middle of the bag diagonally and work your way out attaching in diagonal lines. So say bottom left to upper right in the middle. Then do the next diagonal line on each side of the middle. Then you go back the other direction and attach the opposite direction. A fantastic example for this is the instructions for attaching the Peacock Blanket made by Ophelia talks here on YT. Just adding this in case somone wants to make this and crochet the squares together. Agree these straps would Not cut it with the stretch. Now my 2 actual concerns with this kit and this is just something that is very important to me is Country of origin of the yarn. Around 70% or more yarns made in Asia are made with Slave Labor, Child Labor & Indentured Servitude. I disliked that Target just labeled the kit "imported" and I think it could be because they dang well know where they got the yarn from & don't want people finding out. Otherwise why not list the country of origin right? My 2nd concern which also goes along with this is that nowhere did it say the yarn was OTEK certified. This assures that there are no toxic chemicals used in making the yarn and then being transferred onto the user. Honestly someone would be much better off getting the Premier yarn at the Dollar Tree. It's not made with slave labor or kids & it's safe to use. For these 2 reasons I would say no to this kit but this is my personal choice because I won't contribute to such things. Not everyone knows this & I am in no way faulting you. I think it should be told to all crocheters & knitters because it's important to know these awful things still go on. As long as people keep buying it from them, the longer it will go on. Btw not nice about those nasty comments. You are lovely & your voice is pleasant. People love to hide behind keyboards & bully. It's not ok. Thanks for the review.😊💕🧶
Oh wow. Thank you so much for all this information. You’re right that I had no idea and I would assume a lot of people don’t either. Thank you for opening my eyes up to this. It’s something I’ll think about in the future when purchasing something like this.
Thank you for this info. I believe myself to be informed, but you don't know what you don't know... and I didn't know this. Thank you so much for raising my level of awareness!!
@@Tfwcrochet the good news is: it isn't hard to find yarn that is made in Turkey. The majority of yarn you'll find online (except no name brands on Amazon or some place like Temu or Wish) and in craft stores is made in Turkey or the US. Not all, but most. And the OEKO-Tex is fairly recent (in the grand scheme of things) labeling that you'll find on yarns in craft stores (you'll likely not always see it on all yarns in a LYS since many of those are from small companies who may not be able to afford the certification process. So you don't have to shy away from all yarns without that labeling, if it's sourced well). But, in craft stores, it's even on yarns like red heart super saver so it's very common now. But if a label doesn't have that info, you can scan it and search it on the Oeko-tex website. Additionally, you could reach out to a company about their practices. For some companies, not having the certification may be a cost issue as all such things come with a price that is easier for large companies to absorb. It's like when i go to the farmer's market: some large farm operations are certified organic. Others follow the same practices but can't afford the certification because they are very small. But a good farm will still answer your questions about it. I'll bet that if you start looking at your yarn labels, you'll see that oeko-tex mark (I'm seeing it more and more) and you'll see that most of your yarn is made in Turkey.
i think the strap instructions left out that you do the six double crochets in the other side's chain-2 space, then sew the top of that row to the top of the row on the other side. that way it looks the same at all of the points, and you will only see the join if you're really looking for it
That's what I would assume too. It would be nice if the pattern explicitly said it, but being willing to fudge it a little and just do whatever makes sense to you/gets the job done is helpful. I also wonder a bit about the country of origin, not necessarily the manufacturer, but like the people who designed it. Different cultures and at different times, people absolutely expect different levels of hand holding. Right now I see a lot of people online wanting basically full blown step by step, here's 700 photos of it in progress, tutorials. Whereas this pattern reminds me more of old magazine patterns who kept things as succinct as possible to save on printing space. If nothing else, a crochet kit at Target is probably going to be kinda cheap, and paper and ink cost money.
I came upon your channel by chance. I thoroughly enjoyed this video! And you have a new subscriber..(.and not a bullying one)...😅. I have crocheted since I was 8. Over 50 years and enjoy it so much. My gramma would stay summers with us.She never read a pattern, she just looked at something, like a doily, and would recreate it. She taught me stitches on cotton thread, with a tiny little crochet hook. I'm the youngest of many granddaughters, and the only one who learned, I'm very thankful for her gift ❤
@@Sherbear60 that’s so amazing! Thank you for sharing part of your crochet journey with me like this. My crochet skill skipped two generations! My great grandma was the one who crocheted and no one else in my family does. The blanket you see on my desk was made by her. Very special ❤️
@Tfwcrochet That's great that you are carrying on the tradition! I hope you get to pass it on to another generation. I keep hoping one of my granddaughters will want to learn! I have them well supplied,,,they are just too busy in other activities. My daughter never wanted to learn. Lol. The blanket is beautiful! What a keepsake!
Nice! I did see that at our Target ( but mostly sold out lately). Right, the yarn cannot be soft, because once it's outside, it'll get frayed, etc. The only thing, and I've crochet a couple of these granny square bags, is that you'll need to line the inside (light colored toned fabric), so things don't fall out, get snagged and it doesn't stretch out. Also you can hand or machine sew fabric on the inside facing straps. But great job!
I haven't really watched any crochet youtube so this was new to me. Your video on it was very interesting and about what you said about hate comments, don't read them as much as you can,. You seem like such a nice person so watching your videos is kinda like sitting with a friend having coffee and crocheting for fun :) You have all you need for a really good channel so just do your thing and ignore the bitter, judgemental people. Greetings from Finland!
Beginners can make that hook user-friendly to hands by getting the foam makeup applicator that is rounded, with a pointed tip and thick other end. Use a nail, metal fingernail file, skewer, etc. and make a hole from fat end coming out at the point. Now,shove your hook through it, from the fat end. Hold your hook on a flat, non slide surface like a pillow, and push the applicator onto it, just to where you will hold it. Now you have made a comfy, ergonimic hook!
Girly, I'm a beginner and watched a plethora of videos. You're adorable! Your passion is what sets you apart from other creators. Yes, there are some passionate ones but you are a real person and I love that! You keep being you! Take care. ❤
The bag turned out super cute! I consider myself an advanced beginner or lower level intermediate crocheter… I think those “instructions” would cause me a lot of stress. lol You’re so funny with the hair on the strap and your cute commentary on it. 😆 I know every single thing I make has my hair woven in, and some of my dog’s hair, too! 🙈 I’m going to guess that you’re 5’2”? Oh, and your voice is adorable! That person must’ve known they were being a jerk if they deleted it immediately. And as a side note, your eyes are gorgeous! Thanks for the fun video! 💕

@@Tfwcrochet Aw! I can’t tell, but I love it! I always coveted my petite friends’ heights growing up as a 5’10” girlie. I still hunch over to this day from trying to shrink all the time. lol
@ funny enough all the short guys have always tried to date me since they could feel taller that way but I have only ever been with tall guys. My husband is 6’2” 😆
Omg! I’m here trying to attach the handles and wow. I’m glad you can agree these instructions are terrible! This is my first time crocheting! I do feel super confident now though that I can figure out practically anything 😂 thanks for the video!
I make a LOT of bags & for my straps i attach my yarn with a slip stitch n then use that space the sl st is in to go back into (as if its 1 chain) & do a chainless foundation row for my strap. When i get to the other side (once the straps the right length) i sl st & then just like you do when doing ribbing on an edge (like a cuff or ribbing on a beanie), i sl st into the next stitch (or 2 if i use HDC or DC) and then go back up the chainless foundation "rows" i just made. I usually do 3 rows sometimes 4. If you work it right you will sl st to the left on each side like you do with regular crochet (which will end up being ur 2 outside rows, if you do 3, with ur initial FSC row becoming the middle row of stitches. Can look cool with 1 colour in the middle/FSC & a diff colour on the 2 outer rows )& you wont have a messy or bumpy area where you attached the strap 🙂 ETA, if ur worried about ur yarn being a bit stretchy or you feel ur bag doesnt quite look finished off, you can do a SC row all the way around & go over where you attached ur strap via the sl sts & it can make it a bit sturdier & tidy it up/make it look finished off. I sometimes do this and also do a row of sc inside the loop that the bag/strap makes, i hope that makes sense lol
I concur with bordering the straps (as i mentioned in a comment i left), except i would do slip stitch or reverse sc since those will stretch less than sc.
Actually i think I will buy the kit! I'm a knitter, teaching myself Tunisian crochet, and I can do single and half double crochet swatches. I like these colors, and the needle, and I'll take on the challenge! Loved the video - thanks!
I hope you have fun with it! Maybe you’ll avoid some of my mistakes after watching this. Also I heard from other commenters that PassionKnit Kelsey has a video showing how to assemble this type of bag.
I am a beginning crocheter who has made a few amigurumi, some hats and scarves, etc. and when I saw this kit at Target last month I just had to buy it too, for the lovely colors! I have not attempted it yet, as I am muddling my way through my first shawl. I really appreciate this video, as now I know what I can expect! I will probably look for another tutorial on how to assemble granny squares for such a bag and the best way to make and attach straps before I begin those steps! Don’t listen to the miserable people out there. (Hurting people hurt people.) You are ADORABLE!❤️ Stumbled across your channel cause I’m working on improving my crocheting skills by watching tons of crochet videos. The kit piqued my curiosity because I’m always examining the amigurumi kits in the store and wondering if I’m there yet. Rarely do they say they are for beginners and if they do, they seem to always be so expensive.🤔So thank you so much for the interesting content. Can’t wait to check out your others oh and being compared to Fiona is a huge compliment in my book. Shes so regal in both forms.❤
Great review! I really liked your review of the straps. Good observation. I think people are thinking that it is a beginning project because one of the ads on the front says there’s a booklet in there that teaches you how to crochet. If you weren’t a beginner, you wouldn’t need that.
So, I've made a ton of bags like this just using a diagram on pinterest that looks exactly like the assembly diagram. What you do first is join squares to make strips of 2, 3, 4 and 3. Then you join the strips until you have the same configuration as the diagram. Then fold in half on the center dotted line, join red line to red line on each side and blue line to blue line.
Hi girl I know this is kind of weird but I have to say I really like your hair and the vibe you're giving❤️ As for the bag I think it'd be cute if you hang it on the wall and maybe put some of your crocheted plushies (I'm new to your channel so I don't know how big they are but I hope you get my point) or crochet bouquets in there.
Thank you for the interessting video. I would count myself as a crochet-beginner. I did a few coasters and one amigurumi (that from a kit), but not much more. What I like about kits is that they give you all the yarn you need. I'm a primary knitter with mostly yarns that don't match coaster / amigurumis / bags for crocheting, so there is not that much of yarn there. And especially for amigurumi you tend to need small amounts of colors. So for me its a conviniecne factor that I don't need to buy a whole skein of a color I probably won't use otherwise just to have like 10 grams of it for a detail. Having "all the yarn included" is what sells kits for me. No worries about finding the right colors (or somehow matching colors) and no leftovers that you won't use otherwise.
The bag is adorable and you could replace the straps with something more durable. Also you could line the bag with fabric. As far as hate comments just ignore them. I really like your video and your personal appearance is adorable. 😊.
I agree with you that the person who could do this project has probably all materials already. I might do it from scraps and definitely do the straps another way. Nice video! I enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for reviewing this. I have only crocheted amigurumi so I've been waiting for this kit to come back in stock and want it because I've never done Granny squares and I'm very intimidated by them and other flat things. I still think I want to try it out because I like the colors and I've also only worked from kits in the past. I figure if I F it up super badly then it's not a huge waste of money and I'm not messing up the nicer yarn I have.
I wish all creative kits do a tester call kind of thing. Have people who actually do the craft test it. And people who have never tried it test it too. Ur review is great!
I had this pattern construction years ago and made a similar. I have a pattern book of different squares and you can use basically any square you want. I hand sewed a lining in it.
You look amazing. Just ignore anyone who says different. The instructions, should have been to work six double into the corner chain space of the opposite granny square to join. To join with a single crochet, you should place both sides together, now working a sc though both squares join together , as normal. If want a stronger handle, it is a good idea to add two or three rows of sc on both sides of the stap joing with a SL st to the bag at each end. If you want the stap to be stronger you can also add a crab stitch row .
As you're talking about hand pain, here I am massaging my own hands, as I'm currently making a belt for my wife. The belt has two strands, one of which is a 2mm macrame cord, and being a belt, I am cinching down on my stitches and making them very tight so the resulting belt is dense and a bit stiff. 2mm cord, stranded with a #4 medium yarn for colorsplash, with a 6mm hook, done tight, makes my left hand fingers want to revolt. Also, my daughter is named Fiona after Princess Fiona from Shrek, so can confirm... it is a compliment! :)
Guuurl, don't even sweat the haters!! Being compared to Princess Fiona is a compliment, for real. You are very pretty and there is nothing weird about your voice. You do you boo and keep going! Now that its done the next one will be easier. Each time you make one it will go faster because you are more familiar with the pattern. Are you going to put a liner in it? They are cute bags. Great job.
I got this bag from Target on clearance for $7.50 as the box was torn open. I completely agree with your frustrations and pros and cons. I too had difficulty attaching the bag together. And the straps are easy to start but I also have the extra nub on the attached side. Looks so weird! Not sure how to attach these handles smoothly. I too think the strap could be better. Still want to see how to properly attach these handles.
@@rosyperu88 I heard from other commenters that PassionKnit Kelsey has a tutorial on her channel for a bag like this but I haven’t checked it out myself.
Love and admire your patience and actually buying a kit😊. For a much better handle, try the Romanian rope. Does not give nor is it uncomfortable when in the shoulder Love your idea for using in home decor👏🏾👏🏾
You could use the bag to store some skeins of yarn, in a decorative way. Or add a lightweight pot to fill it out and then add silk flowers or a large air plant. Neither of those require the weight of soil, which is why i suggest those.
I do really love the colors. I probably would have bought it had I not seen your video and had seen the kit in target. I consider myself to be an intermediate to advanced crocheter. I am also an adventurous beginning quilter and am looking to combine the crafts.
I have made that particular bag (though not from this particular kit) and it is super technical and the directions are fairly difficult to follow as a written pattern. There are many UA-cam videos with amazing easy to follow along guides on this pattern. I can't imagine someone just starting out trying this particular bag pattern on the fly as a written pattern only. Thanks for clearly showing why watching a demonstration and possibly buying a kit from a big box distributer of yarn (or any one of the millions of amazing kits curated by designers) is a better option. You almost always get support from the designer if you have issues with their pattern....with this sort of kit, who do you call?
Oh god, march fly in the house would make me insane, I'm so paranoid when i know they're around. You were legit so put together to be able to continue, i would have been stalking around the room with a fly swat.

First time watching you, and you have a nice calm voice. You are also beautiful. Haters are everywhere, ignore and delete their nasty comments. I am an intermediate to advanced crocheter those instuctions were written by someone who does not write nor speak English. I have come across many kits like this. This kit should be for intermediate crocheters. The company should be notified of the horrible instructions and lack of color to be changing to and the poor strap instructions. Target should also be informed of them.
Thanks for the review. Very helpful. As for the haters, they gonna hate what tickles their jealous bone. You remind me of Fiona as well, but in the best ways. The color of your hair is similar, but your eyes are even more striking than hers.
My voice is very feminine and I’m very self conscious about it. I know that feeling. I’m proud of you for making a channel and I enjoy your channel a lot. I just got bit by a horse fly this weekend for the first time and it was definitely more painful than I thought it would be. I thought it was a bee on my upper back arm but it wasn’t so when I smacked it I got bit. I stuck like a very mellow jelly fish.
I’m sorry you’re self conscious about your voice. I feel like for the most part we can’t really change them so it’s so rude when people are critical of them.
I did this bag in a mushroom theme for my daughter, but not from a kit. I used a pattern and believe it or not the assembly instructions were just as bad, I've been crocheting for 40 years. Took me so long to make it make sense. I also used 100% cotton so it kept it from stretching so much. I lined hers and she uses it constantly.
I see your point I also think it can be a gift like if u know someone that crochets and I’m sure there are videos maybe on the mondo llama website 🤷🏻♀️ I loved it I do love the color of yarns and I like ur voice it is unique I think u look about 5’3” and you are beautiful love u blue eyes and ginger hair don’t listen to the haters ❤🎉
Could you line the bag and possibly the strap with some cream/off-white cotton fabric to give it more stability? (I’d also be worried about small items falling out of an unlined crochet bag.)
Hello. I’m enjoying your video. I’m a crocheter also. I’m 47 and been crocheting since I was 11. On another note, Princess Fiona is beautiful as a woman and an ogar. I love red hair and your eyes are like the sea. Crystal blue… I love them. 🦋🦋🦋
Really glad that this video popped up in my feed 😀. It was entertaining, informative and inspiring me to make my two young teen nieces a purse like it 🤓. Like you mentioned I definitely have plenty enough yarn to make them, without buying a kit 😅. Whoever posted a negative comment to you was "loco" lol. Your video is cool as well as your voice 😺. I watched a girl a while back make a granny bag where she started stitching together the squares in the center and made strips, then stitched the strips together to create the sides. I wish I could remember her name... but it turned out really cool. She used beaded straps that she had bought. That & the look of it is pretty much all I remember. Thanks for the inspiration 😁.
I made a bag like that which i found online and it's pretty much the same, the strap makes it so that it sags, i think maybe a store bought wooden handle would work better
This bag is so cute. You did a great job. It definitely is not a beginner kit. You’d have to know how to crochet and know how to put squares together, whatever your preference is. The only thing I would have done is put the straps on one side of the bag instead of one strap on both sides. All in all I think you made a beautiful bag and should be proud of it.
I have done several crochet projects but I have never made a pretty granny square. Those are very difficult to make. But I know that many books that teach you crocheting have a granny square blanket, bag, table cloth or other project in them. So I believe that many people think that those are beginner friendly to make.
I’m a total beginner in crochet and since I work at target, I bought this kit as soon as I saw it. I learned to make granny squares with this kit! I love the colors provided but the yarn isn’t really high quality at all. The instructions were really hard to follow so I had to watch tutorials online and finally was able to make the squares. HOWEVER, my tension is so off and not consistent so all my granny squares were all curled up and uneven and even after blocking, the runner I used the kit to make isn’t a runner, it’s a roller 😂😂
@@EmilyWood1996 hahaha! My tension was soooo tight when I first started crocheting so everything was so off. But I’m glad you were able to muddle through and make something! That’s awesome.
Not that it helps for the video but, if you watch PassioKnit Kelsie's 'how many bags can I make in a day?' video, she shows how to put those types of bags together.
I'm easily annoyed by voices I find irritating or just don't like it's something I'm sensitive to, your voice is lovely and no negative thought crossed my mind personally -haters are gonna hate keep on keeping on
The pattern that this kit is copying (Sweet summer sunflower bag) does the straps in a much nicer way, the stitches are vertical along the strap as you mentioned would be nicer. It's also integrated into the border so there aren't any weird connections, not really sure why the kit instructions chose the construction they did It would be nice if the kit had cotton yarn rather than acrylic, it tends to hold up much nicer in bags and if they're worried about cost they could just not give quite so much extra yarn
I never understood why people have to leave hateful comments. Whatever happened to “ if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” If you don’t like someone’s UA-cam videos, move on. Go watch something you enjoy watching. Why waste time watching someone that you don’t like. Our time on this earth is too precious and too short to carry hate in your heart. I just found your channel and I enjoyed watching you work through the kit. I had no idea target had again started selling some craft items. I remember when they used to sell yarn many years ago, and when they stopped selling yarn, I quit going to target. I’d like to see your pup, this is the first video I found of yours, so I’ll keep an eye out for him. I’m just getting into Amigurumi so looking forward to watching your videos. 💕. my husband just pointed out that you did show your puppy, I must’ve been looking down at my Crochet when you showed him. So I had to go back and look. He’s adorable!😊
I definitely teach my kids that. It’s one thing to be critical and provide constructive feedback. It’s another to just be hateful. Glad you went back and saw Lily! She is in every single one of my videos so be sure to watch out for her 😆
I know what you mean about the strap, when you connect it. What I do is make a little tube shaped wrap and wrap the end of the strap one both sides. It looks decorative and hides te part that doesn't look great.
I'm so glad I came across your video about this, I had no idea Target sold these kits! It's super valuable to get opinions on it so hopefully the company can make it better, haha! Also your eyes are super pretty and unique!
It’s a cute pattern, but if you know granny squares, you can look at the picture and just replicate it (though I’d use “join as you go”) with yarn you already have. And now I want to make a granny square tote.
I only just started following you. Your thumbnail came up in video's I might be interested in. I'm working on a puppy dog kit from Hobby Lobby at this moment and I did do a kit just like the one you are doing now but it was from like Herrshners (how ever thats spelled). I think they are saying you can use whatever color you want (other then the white) because they give you enough yarn of the other colors to work it any way you want. I haven't gotten to the putting together yet in your video but I found it a little difficult to put all together. I think sewing the squares together looks MUCH more neat then my bag. :)
I love this idea! I'm going on holiday in a month and thought I might have to take my gear, now I know I can get a kit, make a bag, win win!
Awesome idea
I would totally do that if I saw crochet kits anywhere but never have, not even Walmart (im in Canada and work next to a Walmart so im in there often)
@ the only kits my Walmart carries are craft kits for kids and ones for cross stitch
Wow! I’m shocked you got through it! Good for you!
Boys can crochet too! 😉
I learned to crochet by making granny squares. Way back in 1960 when I was 8 years old 🤗
Im 24 and learning how to do granny squares from UA-cam videos!
My daughter and granddaughter wants me to teach them how to crochet. I've been thinking about the granny squares to start with. I also have a super easy pattern for an Afghan or pillow. Double crochet and chaining which you braid. Beautiful
You sound like my eldest sister, just a little younger!
Just 13 grannies joined together.
I might get another one up one day for a long flight or something
sometimes its nice to not have to round up a bunch of colors in a good brand yourself, I also may pick up a kit if I really like a pattern and it's not for sale elsewhere or free
i would definitely take the fiona comment as a compliment! i personally looove fiona both in her human and ogre form, shes so pretty🥺💕
@@frostyskittle_ legit took it as a compliment. I think I may have seemed sarcastic in the video but I took as a compliment for sure!!

Thank you so much! It is insinuating at first but I’m glad I went for it and thankfully the good out weighs the bad
The instruction confusion does introduce a beginner into the world of crochet. Other than amigurumi patterns, I don't think I've had a single project where I'm not confused by at least one instruction.
If you're getting into crochet, it's just part of the craft.
I agree, I was also confused but was able to figure it out and I enjoyed making the bag, actually I'm not quite done yet lol I just stumbled upon this video but it is quite fun and for someone who never made granny squares before I think it went pretty well
frustration is part of learning and sometimes trying out a kit on vacation or just for fun is a refreshing challange even for those who aren't beginners

I am old enough to remember when Target used to actually sell needlecraft supplies and when they stopped. Maybe they will get back into the market, and this is just a first step. I also remember when Walmart decided to stop selling fabric and yarn! That didn't work out so well for them.

So do I.

Can look cool with 1 colour in the middle/FSC & a diff colour on the 2 outer rows )& you wont have a messy or bumpy area where you attached the strap 🙂
ETA, if ur worried about ur yarn being a bit stretchy or you feel ur bag doesnt quite look finished off, you can do a SC row all the way around & go over where you attached ur strap via the sl sts & it can make it a bit sturdier & tidy it up/make it look finished off.

I have not attempted it yet, as I am muddling my way through my first shawl. I really appreciate this video, as now I know what I can expect! I will probably look for another tutorial on how to assemble granny squares for such a bag and the best way to make and attach straps before I begin those steps! I loved your voice and your style, so just block those haters and move on! You have a new subscriber!
@@maryzenkungfu I’m glad this video way helpful! And I’m glad you’re here 😁
I heard from other commenters that PassionKnit Kelsey has a video where she shows how to put together bags like this!
Thank you for your sweet comment. I totally take the Princess Fiona comment as a compliment!
@@stephy5102 not weird at all. Thank you! And I LOVE the idea of putting crochet flowers inside. So cute.
That totally makes sense. And at least this kit did have plenty of yarn. I have tried some kits that didn’t even have enough!
I love your voice❤️❤️❤️ even tho this is my first vid watching you there’s nothing wrong!!!
The bag is adorable and you could replace the straps with something more durable. Also you could line the bag with fabric. As far as hate comments just ignore them. I really like your video and your personal appearance is adorable. 😊.
Thank you so much 😭
I agree with you that the person who could do this project has probably all materials already.
Yes! Sign me up for that job lol. I might be a little too honest for them though 😆
I just stumbled on your video because of the thumbnail. The bag looked cute. Too bad the pattern is not written well. I subscribed to your channel so good luck with your UTube career!

Now that its done the next one will be easier. Each time you make one it will go faster because you are more familiar with the pattern. Are you going to put a liner in it? They are cute bags. Great job.
I enjoy listening to you, ignore the haters
❤️❤️❤️
Does not give nor is it uncomfortable when in the shoulder
Love your idea for using in home decor👏🏾👏🏾
You could use the bag to store some skeins of yarn, in a decorative way.
Or add a lightweight pot to fill it out and then add silk flowers or a large air plant. Neither of those require the weight of soil, which is why i suggest those.
I do really love the colors. I probably would have bought it had I not seen your video and had seen the kit in target. I consider myself to be an intermediate to advanced crocheter. I am also an adventurous beginning quilter and am looking to combine the crafts.

@@aggiehulle7391 that is so cute 🥹 Maybe I missed my calling as a baby channel?
Nothing wrong with your voice! Some people feel they have the right to judge others! 😮❤

@@roserenik6375 I wonder if someone at Target has seen this video. They probably aren’t very happy with me lol
Thanks for the review. Very helpful. As for the haters, they gonna hate what tickles their jealous bone. You remind me of Fiona as well, but in the best ways. The color of your hair is similar, but your eyes are even more striking than hers.
Thank you 😭
The joining the squares step make sense to me. Maybe it needs to be more clear with numbers as well.
Have you considered reinforcing the straps with grosgrain ribbon to strengthen it, like we do with buttonhole bands on cardigans?
@@ann-mariemeyers9978 I have heard of people doing that! If I make another bag in the future I might try that
My voice is very feminine and I’m very self conscious about it.
Also your look reminds me of the girl that plays Belle in once upon a time. Shes so pretty and so are you!!!!!

If you're looking for more needles like the one in the kit, look into getting a few tapestry needles.
This is very cute for my 12-yr.old as a gift but I would line it with cloth, possibly pink. It would strengthen the bag.
@@priscillapulido8722 thank you so much! And I’m even shorter- 4’11!

You can cut a silicone drinking straw to a grippable length and slip it over the plastic crochet hook to add some "backbone" to the hook.

Well done on your struggles on doing this, it differently not an beginner kit. I love your squid in the background
@@launcestoncrocheter9394 thank you! The pattern for the basic size is on my Etsy shop if you’re interested. I made this one extra big 😁
I made a bag like that which i found online and it's pretty much the same, the strap makes it so that it sags, i think maybe a store bought wooden handle would work better
That yarn looks so pretty
You can use the Battenburg bag pattern which is almost identical and free.
You came up in my suggested because I’m a crochet girlie, then you mentioned do we know them and I was instantly like YES another girlie sign me up!
Yay!! Girlies unite!

@@hannahsmith7693 thank you! I’m glad to hear that.
The pattern that this kit is copying (Sweet summer sunflower bag) does the straps in a much nicer way, the stitches are vertical along the strap as you mentioned would be nicer. It's also integrated into the border so there aren't any weird connections, not really sure why the kit instructions chose the construction they did
It would be nice if the kit had cotton yarn rather than acrylic, it tends to hold up much nicer in bags and if they're worried about cost they could just not give quite so much extra yarn
I definitely teach my kids that. It’s one thing to be critical and provide constructive feedback. It’s another to just be hateful.
Glad you went back and saw Lily! She is in every single one of my videos so be sure to watch out for her 😆
I like plastic crochet hooks for traveling. They work well with acrylic yarn, and if I lose it in public I wasn't really attached to it.
i had this in my cart and almost got it! thanks for your honest review.
I know what you mean about the strap, when you connect it. What I do is make a little tube shaped wrap and wrap the end of the strap one both sides. It looks decorative and hides te part that doesn't look great.

Thank you 🥹
I feel like Target isn’t going to be happy with my after this review 🥲 But I did try and give constructive criticism.
For the 6 double crochet i think it meant that you start form the triple and then you start from the yarn and you crochet along that
just ignore them mean comment your voice sound fine keep doing what you doing
