    6:33 You should increase the size of the c partition by the amount of free space otherwise you'll not be able to use that extra free space and that defeats the whole point of cloning your hard drive onto a bigger capacity SSD.

    That was truly helpful!
    I spent a lot of time trying different cloning tools but most of them either went paid or could only clone to a larger drive and not a smaller one. Macrium Reflect worked fine (took about 3 hours to transfer about 200GBs from an old HDD to a new SSD using SATA). I managed to boot from the new SSD and everything is working great for now.
    Note: The installer I downloaded from the official website didn't launch at all for some reason so I had to download it from a different website.
    Thank you!

    I had an odd issue, which at this point is resolved thankfully. Since I am cloning to a smaller drive, initially the software was saying I couldn't move the partitions over because there was insufficient drive space. Somehow, to fix this, I just dragged the partitions in in a different order and it worked. Kind of an odd situation but it seems like it will be smooth sailing from here on out. Very slow, but smooth. My hard drive im cloning is extremely slow and old so it might just take all night to clone everything over. I would not be surprised if I wake up tomorrow and it still isn't done or broke somehow.

    I own a 2016 HP laptop with 1TB HDD. I did the instructions as clear as I can, and now I'm thankful for you helping me upgrade my laptop to a new HP 1TB SSD. I'm also verifying that the "Macrium viBoot" software is also authentic and safe, and most importantly FREE. Yep, it's really free, and a whole lot better than the AOMEI backupper (which was my first cloning software... that isn't free, but I liked the look of the software more than Macrium, but Macrium helped me better with the cloning process without unnecessary pop-ups/trial fees). The only thing I'm going to say is that you literally have to type up the registration code with the dash symbol (-); the copy and paste method won't work on the Macrium registration/activation box.
    Anyways, my new SSD was connected using a SATA external enclosure with cable connected to the laptop; this has to be connected to the laptop before you turn on your laptop, so that the system along with the Task Manager app recognize that you have an SSD connected to the computer (don't try to restart your computer).
    It has taken me 23 minutes of the cloning process to be completed from the Macrium software after many procedures. However, after the cloning process and swapping out my old HDD with the new SSD inside of the laptop to power up from, a problem occurred, but the system retried it and was working flawlessly; had to test it a few times as a "boot" before installing it into the laptop and replacing the old HDD.
    Now my laptop takes about 6 seconds to go to the password menu after start up. And takes under a single second to open up apps (that's because I added 16GB of RAM).
    Thanks for helping me out, and saving my computer so that I won't have to worry about buying a new one.

    Update to this: Macrium Reflect X Home v.10.0
    Still works.
    You can just use any temporary email generator website to get the trial without using your own email.
    To extend the partition, just "float" the last partition to the "right" and this lets you use the "fill space" on the big partition.
    At the end (after "Finish") it seems like you have to create the .XML file so the copying to actually start (I tried unchecking it and it didnt seem to star without it).

      I haven't tried cloning before, but at least I have a got a vast in Knowledge in TECH.
      The video you watched explains everything you need to know or do in details.
      Defragmentation only logically arranges files that has been fragmented in your Harddrive.
      So now, I don't think defragmenting is an option is just a necessity.
      To be on the safe side, two things you can do is to Backup your files or first try his scenarios on another computer you are so sure even tho the files gets compromised or anything happens in the process or thereafter, you have nothing much to lose.

      I have found a way out!
      After booted from new SSD...
      1go to Disk management then right click on the unallocated space or right click on the Actual disk partition then select Expand volume..from there you should get the unallocated space back usable as normal

    after cloning, I boot my new SSD, it show inaccessible boot devices. how to resolve this issue? (need help)

    • @louisavondart9178
      @louisavondart9178 4 роки тому +7

      you need to reset your new SSD as the boot device. This is done in the BIOS selection. You access that easily. Just google which keys to use for your particular operating system. It's either " Escape " F2 or F8. Turn off your pc, wait 5 seconds, restart and then start hitting the correct key repeatedly until the BIOS screen options open up. Then you can select which drive you want to use to boot your system. I hope this helps.

      if you did as Louisa said and it didn't work make sure that your SSD is in the right format, I did this a really long time ago so I can't remember what the correct format was called but make sure that your SSD is in the right format to be bootable from, search it up.

      @@ceandanieldiango3601 sorry for confusing you with the maker of this video. I cloned my failing SSD to another SSD of similar size. I make videos for You Tube so I need a fast machine. The cloning software was free with no Adware hidden inside, and the steps were easy to do.

    • @xiv1195
      @xiv1195 2 роки тому +5

      I’m sure it’s the same thing. Just ensure that the used space you had in the HDD is smaller than the size of your SSD which is 500 GB. So basically, if you’re used space in HDD is 600 GB, then that’s gonna be a problem.

      Check first the files you are cloning, if the file is too big for the External drive you want to put your clone it will not succeed or error will occur.
