Nice, will be easy to spot you on the water now!! Nothing quite like a session on a new sail......The window is awesome, made for wave sailing!! Nice video, I always enjoy your POV's....
I did this change 10+ years ago with a 6.2 eclipse and regretted it instantly. Even more when I had to thread the sail into the tiny bag in the wind after a long session. For someone who doesn’t want to spend $1000 every year on a sail, Ezzy is so much stronger than goya. It’s amazing how they achieve that with the same weight. Thanks for the review. It’s good to see how the two brands improved over the years and how they compare . I might try the next time I’m renting but I know what I’m buying. Enjoy the sails. Cheers
Congrats on your new sails! I've been on the Banzai for the last 5 years or so, and have had the 2020, 2022, and recently got some of the latest Gen 11 full carbon like yours. What I really like is that the new ones combined what I thought was great about the previous models - so the precision and stability of the 2020, with the lightness and soft handling of the 2022. Yes really good clew first, very nice for that under pressure clew first waterstart on the inside! A good point on the looks of the sail, it is always nice to bring something beautiful to the beach. I like the yellow/carbon stripy sections, but to my taste the all black foot panel and detailing has got a bit heavy against the yellow. The yellow/white 2022 is much more elegant looking in that regard I think (and the text elements are cleaner/more restrained). A deep red version would be extraordinary though! (see also the blue of the carbon Banzai Surf) Regarding masts, I have a mix 80% and 100% - I find the 100% is really light and quick, so nice in lighter conditions, but the 80% is great when really powered up as it is a fraction softer with a more forgiving ride. It is also nearly half the price! (I'd recommend taking out / putting back the mast ends together, so they don't rub against each other in the bag as you do so)
Hey thanks for the comments Robert, it's cool to hear your experience with the sails. The 100% mast is so sweet isn't it.... so responsive and light. I've ordered some 80% so will look forward to seeing the differences. I should've mentioned the price differences as well, that's a good point of yours!
I heard Francisco years ago explaining a reason for their sails/bags being thinner is that it opened to the opportunity to pack 2 of them in a box from the factory versus just one in the past. It cut their shipping cost quite a bit. It might have been the 3 battens and not the 4 battens but found that detail from Francisco quite interesting. You’ll enjoy your Goya sails. I used many brands and this is always one I love above the others. Have fun Paul!
Great video. Very honest. Goya skinny booms are great. And you can’t stop here, now you need the new quatro pyramid. Bring one from Maui. By the way my local dealer is also goya distributer.
Great stuff Paul. I have Goya boards and find them top quality so I imagine the sails are too. If I ever move from Severne sails, it'll probably only be to Goya. Also like the classy way you left Ezzy. You made it clear you love those sails and didn't leave for any other reason than the opportunity you were given. Congrats - hope you love them 🤙🏻
Cool video, congrats! I'm still using my 2005 5.2m Ezzy wave, not many brands can claim such longevity I guess. I have a mixed quiver from various brands and Ezzy isn't my favourite to sail in terms of feel, but I certainly can't complain about how long it lasted inder the brutal Greek sun!
Congrats, very nice sails. The power and control clew options actually make a big difference in this Banzai. The control option definitely adds to the upper windrange.
Ironic that you post this video. A friend is selling off his Ezzy sails due to aging out of windsurfing. I think he has been using the Ezzy brand for quite a while, and I was considering buying one. I tried an Ezzy 25 years ago with the vinyl window, and thought it was sooo heavy. I never really considered them again. I mostly grew fond of Hot Sails for their light feeling and mixed in some other brands, Sailworks, Pryde and and a few others. Some I did not enjoy at all and some I appreciated for their different beneficial features. I am glad to have had a bit of variety over the years. Sails are a big investment and sticking with something you know is easy. I recently purchased a 6.6 twin cam Goya Mark 2 that I am looking forward to sailing. Long time since I have had a cambered sail. Your new Goya quiver looks pretty sweet, I hope you enjoy them. They may be my next option 🤙
Ezzy sails are made with top quality material so that you can keep them salty! I like how my Ezzy Lion goes mast sleeve first into the bag. Designed like a smart person would design it unlike my other Severne sails that go clew first which makes it so freaking tedious to put them in without damaging the sensitive end of the sail. Leave the Severne salty and some parts will rust and break off.
Good stuff Paul, enjoyed your video. I'm getting way to old to change sails so i will stick with my two 5-10year old Ezzys. They are still nearly as good as new. Be good to see what you feel about the Goya on a strong wind day.
I changed my Ezzy too (for Simmer) but my main reason was their unique approach on the mast policy there, indeed I was just fed up of having to buy extra top/bottom pieces too, what’s funny is that they say the actual reason for the swapping nonsense is to have/buy less masts etc, where in reality it’s exactly the opposite , nevertheless I really enjoyed them, if they stop with the swapping policy I will go gladly back to them, anyway I am sure you will love them, goya are also very good wave sails, peace out and enjoy them 🤙🏻💙🤙🏻 PS. Just let me know if you won’t have any issues in putting them back in those fancy, and indeed beautiful, new slim bags…. I Would for sure though 😬
"lighter" is quite a stretch... there is about 110-160 grams difference between Banzai and Ezzy Wave on the 5.0 and I bet Goya's have a higher swing weight and more variability in production (like the 4.0 Paul weighted). Anyway, cheers to Goya for the support (and Ezzy for past support). Looking forward to Paul's review after a few sessions in various conditions.
Note: battens have a little 'bend preference' due to being rolled the same way. Glad you enjoy the change, enjoy the views through the window! I think you just get used to sails, however, you do fee the difference between brands with shorter mast lengths and taller designs.
I think all sails nowdays are great and similar.. I guess if anyone had the opportunity to try out most of the wave sails on the same day no big differences will be noticed. Amazed by the weight of the ezzys.. did not expect that.
Congrats and thanks for the review! You mentioned that ezzy masts are similar, but have slightly different characteristics. Any chance you can try and share your opinion on ezzy mast+ goya sail combination? Thank you.
Nice to get a new quiver! Early Christmas for you 😊Looking at the sails, I think the Ezzy is built better from the window, luft sleeve, mast protector and head cap (fabric sewn closed on Goya? which is a pain with sand) and probably in other areas also - including the sail bag. Where are you going to put your booties? If you turn over your sails frequently a lighter build probably not a huge issue and I am sure they will be awesome on the water and maybe handle better. I sail Ezzy 😁
Yeah it’s had to beat the Ezzy for build quality. It’s pretty crazy actually as the sails definitely look beefier but have the same weight! The Goya does feel sweet though….
It's always good to hit the re-fresh button once in a while, and I would make the same change to Goya if I were you. Just make a note that it's 'BAAnzai' (A in apple not as in the French 'bon'.) I assume they're named after the 'Pipeline' wave in Hawaii.
And yet here I am, doing the exact opposite, switching from many years with goya for a quiver of ezzy wave 23/24, because I have found myself a pretty good deal. I believe that we both are both going to be satisfied. 🤙🤙What are your thoughts after the month on a new quiver mate?
Battens are in the middle of the Sail Like Symmetric like on Ezzy or just on one Side of the Sail cloth…? Greetings and Keep on rocking … Goya Booms too ..?
I use Ezzy masts in my new Banzai pro max sails. I’m 92kg and feel they suit me better as they are not as soft as the Goya masts. If you still have your ezzy masts give them a try?
I was lucky enough to try a older version of Banzai wow. Was amazing had real light feel in the hand but the power on was so nice. When I win lotto I'll get rid of my 2010 NP combats.

Awesome video. Loved the comparisons and first impressions, very relatable and great viewing.
Paul, thanks for the video... I felt like I was wearing the Goyas for the first time. Enjoy them!!

Enjoy the sails Paul! Felt the same after changing over from NP to Severne couple of years ago after 20+ years

Goya is one of my favorite brands.
Ezzy masts might be bomb proof, except for Gnaraloo bombs - that was a rough 😂
🥰
hi thanks for great videos.

From my limitd experience, Goya are more lively. Maybe less range than Ezzy but lighter and more manoeuvrable for surfing.

Very happy with the new sails but was happy with the Ezzy too!
The lightness of your new sail could come mostly from the 100% mast. I always thought 100% is foolish because of the price until I got one myself.
@@sipkebijlsma oh for sure the 100% mast is pretty amazing!

Great gear been using goya for a long time, but please try the Banzai Surf, best sail i ever tried in my 35 years of wave sailing
I’ve ordered two Surfs!
I switched to Goya being an Ezzy guy for years. The Goya 6.3 was a revelation in comparison to the Ezzy 6.3/6.4. The Takas were crap.
The last Taka I had was an awesome sail. The new Takas are way better than the first few versions.
Was Severne a consideration Paul?
Not really because a few of the other brands reached out to me and I just considered them.
C’mon mate be honest, after 25 years the Tack strap has finally worn you down😂
