The Marines trialed these in Afghanistan to resupply remote bases / outposts without risking aircrews . Don't know what the outcome was but the US military seems to have an aversion to unmanned aircraft systems .

No. The K-Max has no hydraulics system at all it's all stick and rudder. Collective works the same was as the cyclic, by means of the servo flaps. It has blade grips that are fixed to the hub with no capacity to turn and the rotor blades are made from laminated wood and twist along their lenght. It's rotor system is really, really simple but it doesn't need to be any more complex than that to do the job it was made for.
