    Hey your lighting and background doesn't matter. I appreciate you taking the time and telling how your experience was it is a great help. Currently I'm in a class for A+ and our teacher said we could flag the performance based questions and come back to them.. Like you said don't take a long time on answering those questions in the beginning. I wish you great success with all your certifications.

    Thanks for this video! I bought the CompTIA A+ exam prep package for both A+ exam vouchers (+ a free retake each) and CertMaster Practice. I bought this during a 20% off sale during CompTIA’s Earth Day promo so I saved some money. Spent about $700 but I feel it is worth it.
    I did my first practice test on CertMaster Practice for the 1001 exam and scored a 73% which I consider just barely passing. I am liking the whole CertMaster program though because it shows me what I need to study more of. I am trying to remember the different network ports, the wireless standards & frequencies, and some details about virtualization right now. Basically trying to remember specific numbers is what I am doing right now. I loved hearing your insight!

    Hey James, I realize this video is 2 years old, but just wanted to say thanks for sharing your story and congrats on passing A+. How has your career life in IT being so far? Did the A+ help in getting hired and have you gotten other certifications? I’m making a career change after over 10 years in my current field and I’m honestly a little worried since I may need to take a pay cut before getting experience and making a good income in IT. I’m currently preparing for the A+ cert. Anyways, if you could let me know how it has been, it’d be great. Awesome video btw!

    • @ZeroDayJames
      @ZeroDayJames  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks so much for watching and congrats on the big move to switch careers! I absolutely understand your concern. I had to take a pay cut as well and I’m currently working for an MSP so it’s tough. I also got my Net+ Sec+ and AWS Solutions Architect but honestly I will tell you know. Get your foot in the door asap. Sure you can collect certs and they might help a little bit but if there’s one thing I’ve found it’s that experience trumps all. This pieces of paper mean nothing if you don’t have practical application. Having a cert does not and I repeat DOES NOT necessarily equal higher pay

    THANK YOU for posting this video!!! Your background is FINE!, you don't need to make it look perfect or explain!
    I'm studying for the 1001 now. My job is making us take both parts by MAY 1. $1,200 seems really high, just for web/mobile access/tests.IMO.
    I'd spend that on a 5-day hands-on bootcamp.
    OUESTIONS:
    (1) how many days/weeks after the 1001 did you try the 1002?
    (2) Do you remember if the same info from the 1001 was on the 1002?...(ports, IP addresses; printer steps).
    (3) did you memorize all the ports?
    (4) how long did you study before taking the first 1001 test?
    THANKS AGAIN for sharing your experience.

    • @ZeroDayJames
      @ZeroDayJames  4 роки тому

      That’s awesome your getting started on your A+! So the $1200 covered course material for both the 1001 and 1002. It also came with an exam voucher and retake for each exam. So it was an OKAY deal if you ask me.
      1) I took the 1002 about 4 weeks after the 1001.
      2) I don’t recall exactly. But I do remember that it is a much different. If there is any overlapping knowledge it is very minimal.
      3) I didn’t memorize the ports but I highly recommend it. I definitely saw quite a few ports/protocols on the exam and if you plan on taking the Net+/Sec+ you will continue to see them.
      4) I studied for the 1001 about the same amount of time, 4 weeks. Mind you, 4 weeks really only allowed about 4-10 hours tops a week.

    • @ZeroDayJames
      @ZeroDayJames  4 роки тому +1

      @@ZeroDayJames My job postponed our deadline until May 31st. But I still don't feel confident when I take the practine tests! I seem to be stuck on 70% correct. I think just reading the Exam Cram book & watching Prof. Messer is NOT enough for me to recall to material. :( .
      I'm going to have to write out more notes & speak/read/write them over & over to remember. And this is just the FIRST part!

    • @ZeroDayJames
      @ZeroDayJames  4 роки тому +1

      TallNubian-Shirley Just keep at it until those numbers go a little bit higher. I think I got a 69% on my first practice exam and would steady get from 70-75%. I would just go over the ones I missed and even take the same practice exam making sure I got 100%. You will be fine trust me!

      @@ZeroDayJames I PASSED MY CERTIFICATION EXAM on Friday May 15th!!!! BUT, BUT...I did NOT STICK with the A+!!! That was TOO stressful for me to try to do BOTH exams(1001 & 10020) by the deadline given by my job. I wanted to keep my job!!!! So, I switched gears and went for the SECURITY+. That was much BETTER for me as some of the things in that included IT related knowledge from my previous jobs(TELNET, RDP, DNS, nslookup, ping). The malware & hacker attacks were interesting to me....MUCH MORE SO than the A+ cables, IP address, ports, etc!!!.
      I got an 841 on the Sec+.......I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY that I am DONE with this requirement. NOW I can focus on DOING my job instead of worrying about WHETHER I'll HAVE a job!.
      I might go on to the CISSP now!. Get that out the way...POSSIBLY in the next 3-4 months. I'm still researching on that one!!!.

      Ahh I’m sorry to hear that! Don’t let it get you down though there’s still hope. I’ve never used ITProTV before so I can’t give any suggestion on that. I would recommend doing lots and lots of practice exams. Look at the sections and topics you missed then go over those lessons on your course material. Also use the printout they give you after your exam because it tells you what topics you missed.

    Hello I passed my 220-1001 in August, but I failed my 220-1002 today. To pass the 220-1002, I am deciding whether I should purchase CertMaster Learn or CertMaster Practice. Which is better? What are the differences between the two? What are the pros and cons of each? Do each of them prepare you for the test? If you can answer my questions it would really help me out. Thank you for your time.

    • @ZeroDayJames

      The CertMaster learn is an actually course that goes through all of the objectives on the exam and I believe it has a practice test at the end. The CertMaster practice is just a collection of practice exams. Depending on what your score was and what topics you struggled with, you might just need to work on actual test taking and go with the practice exams. What material did you use to study?

      @@ZeroDayJames Hi I just finished getting the A +. I had the same experiences taking these exams as you, a fatalistic sense of failure, since the questions are poorly worded, and subjective since they provide multiple correct answers, and you have to choose the "best" one. I know you completed the trifecta by earning the network + and security + as well. What was your impression of those exams? Did they at least get more objective, ha ha, or did you feel like you were going to fail like you did on A+?
