My mother in law is 96 and lives in a nursing home and she wears her pleated trousers, stockings, Paton leather shoes, fitted tops and a string of pearls every day. She is the most elegant looking person there. Its such a beautiful timeless look.
So nice! I hope she‘s happy there. Let‘s be healthy and do physical training on a regular basis so that we never land in a nursing home and are able to take care of ourselves and live as independent humans until our last breath, enjoying every moment😊
When I retired in 2019, I was determined not to slob around in torn jeans, ratty tshirts, & too-tight leggings at home or when I went out anywhere. I lost a lot of weight, eliminated my business wear items, and have concentrated on a more streamlined, modern style & color palette. It means that I always look presentable and feel good about my style, look, and myself no matter where I go. This comes down to self-respect and respect for others.
One of the best styling advice I've heard so far. Totally agree with your views on how one should present themsleves most time. Its called self respect and also respecting others when we take the time and effort and extra care to look good and presentable.
I totally agree. I work in a business atmosphere. The people we have hired in the last few years are not concerned with their appearance or their language. I am just shocked. I realize that it is difficult to find people who want to work, but let's adhere to the policies we have set forth and make sure they are put in practice. I'm just amazed, but not in a good way . Some I swear do not believe in showering on a daily basis!🤔😐🙃
Classic, timeless is my favorite look. Always has been ❤ I’m so happy the look is coming back. Maybe people will start acting more respectful as well. One can only hope
Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, J Crew esp blazers, Brooks Brothers are my favorites....Im lucky I live in a foreign country and stores in the US donate end of season clothing that doesnt sell out and they write them off against profits...Then factors/agents buy them BY WEIGHT bundle them up in huge 100 lb bales at warehouses and ship them by ship to foreign ports...eg Guatemala where I live. Locals in business got to warehouses that carry these bundles and buy them again by weight and quality....low end is the Goodwill stuff...They stock espcially high end things before CHristmas but out of seaon too. I have an amazing wardrobe as a result !
So happy you mentioned Brooks Brothers. I have loved them for years and hardly hear about them. Great video. I am so excited that the styles I have loved are making a comeback. I get so tired of all the sloppy dressing with gaping holes in the clothes. Maybe it's my age coming through, but mercy I love a good classic outfit that shows that you really took a minute to think about your appearance.
I think "Old Money" has a more specific preppy connotation vs "Quiet Elegance". Like you mentioned, specifically brands like Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers. I love this, but it's hard to do as a work-from-home mom. I like to get dressed every day like I'm going to a casual job, but there are also a lot of PTA events and things that this look just isn't always practical for. I'm leaning into a lot of the dark wash, wide leg denim and sneakers looks. Still cute with a blazer, though! ☺
I finally realize that I am a quiet luxury girl. About 10 years ago I just always looked in my closet and there was Classics. If I want to look a bit more trendy, I change my accessories I like simple, easy styling of my wardrobe I live in a very warm climate, so it’s a little more tricky here.😊
Oh yes, excited to see your Brooks Brothers haul! I found a second hand BB blazer, and it's gorgeous. I can afford a new one, it's NOT an over the top $ brand, but I love to see the Vintage stores, also. Great video, thank you!
I Love more classy look I’ve learned over the years i rather dress nice then ripped clothes or things that’s trendy . So I always enjoy your fashion videos 🤎🖤
I always hear from people that ask why I'm so dressed up. Maybe it's because I lived in Europe for over a decade, but I've always dressed well wherever I go. I don't wear leisure wear outside of the gym and rarely wear jeans. I always look presentable. It's a matter of self-worth and respect for others as well. Thanks for sharing and I love all your videos Valentina! xoxoxo
We are on the same page…modern classic plus chic is the way to go. I do enjoy some brooks brothers items. I just ordered a plaid (black, navy and green) puffer jacket from Brooks Brothers. I just think it will be adorable with a dark cashmere turtleneck and black jeans for a casual look. I’m looking forward to seeing what you got! I agree about dressing up everyday! I wear athleisure for athleisure activities, but day to day I like to be dressed somewhat nice.
I’m currently in leggings (stay home mom… cleaning house today) and I take NO OFFENSE to what you have said. Hehe!! My parents taught us the same about how we dress and present ourselves to others. So, looking nice when out and about is the objective for sure. I would love to see your haul from Brooks Brothers!!!!
Love your videos! Such an inspiration 😊 i also love how you stay away from certain trends that are only here for a hot second! Classic modern is the way to go! I absolutely love the way you use black color in your house and in fashion. Repainted several rooms already based on your color palette suggestion ❤
I agree with you to get dressed everyday in proper clothing. I tried to teach my kids the same. I could never understand why people wanted to wear leggings or torn jeans or sweatpants. They don't feel comfortable to me. I won't buy torn jeans, even for my grandkids. People care so little about themselves or others they go out in pajama pants. I have even heard people talk, if they had proper clothes on that, they couldn't wait to get home to take their uncomfortable clothes off. Why are they buying uncomfortable clothes? Sounds like they are buying ill-fitting clothes. I love the old money( quiet elegance) clothes and seeing people put an effort in dressing in public makes me feel that the world is changing back to respecting others. That is my opinion and I know others may not feel the same as I do and that is okay.
I love timeless! Still love my crewneck sweaters and a white shirt or turtleneck! But for the holidays, the jeans I wear with them are studded with sparkles! 😊 looking at age 78 next week!
You are right on about dressing properly for the workplace. In fact, I prefer a suit. You never want to attend a meeting or visit a client and be underdressed. Leggings are for cleaning house.
I totally agree with you Valentina. Like I questioned myself like who made yoga pants or athletic attired an everyday wear? I love office attire. My family named me Miss Lawyer or Miss Abogada because I dress to impress. 😊
I agree, dressing with respect ! Respect for yourself and others. I love getting ready and looking my best. Won’t spend a lot on purses though. $ 700 or more for a purse , ridiculous. I do want a leather one though , Coach isn’t too bad . Sales of course! Love your style Valentina !♥️
I’m happy to hear you prefer to dress business casual most days. I hate jeans and leggings are not much better than running out in pantyhose. Wait 5 years and they won’t believe what they paid for distressed jeans. A farmer would have put in the garbage. Thanks for inspiring us.🤗🌺💃
I agree that getting dressed appropriately for the lifestyle that one lives does show respect. It irks me when I see young ladies drop off their children at school in tight and revealing work-out clothes. Perhaps just putting on a athleisure style jacket would make it more respectable. My favorite styles are the tailored and classic looks of Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Talbots and some of the looks of Banana Republic. They closed the Brooks Brothers store in my area. I will have to visit their website. I would love to see what you have purchased from them. I still have a pair of riding boots that I purchased from them years ago. My budget doesn't afford me to purchase from Dior and Prada. I also like "preppy" styles. It is nice to hear that you are getting away from styling with over-sized looks and dressing to show off your proportions.
Certain body types will struggle in classic modern - beautiful looking quiet elegance Is classic no matter how you spin it verbally - Hair style definitely elevates the timeless looks. Certain bodies don’t look well oversized - All you mentioned never left society ; it’s just you like trends-
Classic pieces are always great to have in your closet but sometimes it depends on what you’re doing for the day, I love getting out in my garden and mowing my lawn, I wear shorts and an over sized t shirt for that because it gives me comfort and protection from the sun, I couldn’t see myself wearing matching blazer coats and linen shorts or long pants for doing what I do but I always put myself together when I’m going out, even if it’s just to the grocery store, at home I just lounge around in comfortable clothes that I feel comfortable in and don’t need ironing Lol 😂, I’ll wear my leggings around home, I don’t see anything wrong with that, it comes down to where you live and the culture as well, I live in Australia 🇦🇺 and I don’t work, so my wardrobe is pretty much casual outfits and I love summer clothes with some colour to them after wearing winter outfits of long pants, jeans, sweaters and bulky clothes, it’s just too Hot 🥵 here to wear some of the pieces of clothing you shared, especially when it’s up there in the 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the less clothing I have on the cooler I feel….my wardrobe consists of numerous colours, styles for different occasions…Happy Holidays from Australia 🇦🇺🎅🏻🧑🏻🎄🎄❤️❤️
The funny thing I have noticed is that some people who actually come from “old money” dress either super whacky or overly casual. I’ll assume it’s bc they just don’t care what anyone thinks.
My mom taught me the same thing, but I hate wearing suits especially if they have shoulder pads. I tend to be more business casual but only for work. Since I associate that style with work I really don’t like wearing pants or trousers in my free time. I prefer jeans.
Yes to Brooks Brothers!!! I’ve been buying that brand for 20+ years. The pieces are so well-made with high quality materials and a classic design. I style them with modern accessories and they STILL look beautiful. Absolutely one of my favorite brands!❤
I live in Raleigh NC. What makes me sad is seeing people in theater venues wearing jeans or leggings and sloppy clothing and eating loudly or eating strong smelling food during a live performance. It seems disrespectful to me. And it diminishes my experience.
Americans have become more and more casual. Aside from women wearing leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants, flip flops, and too tight clothes with bits hanging out, I miss seeing men dressed well. It seems outside of a top-level corporate jobs, men are allowed more and more to wear casual clothes in the workplace to the point where at home they are dressing down another level also - wearing junky t-shirts, flip flops or bad jeans. Sure, we all want to be comfortable but I think its gone too far. For me, when I actually make myself put on real pants and a nice shirt and shoes, it makes me feel like a lady and not a teenager. Also, real clothes are not as forgiving so it helps me keep my weight in check!!! I have had times in my life where months were spent in leggings or sweatpants and its easy to gain 20 lbs and not even notice! 😮I know! I did it! And thats not fun, or healthy. Like you, and as a short woman myself, I need to have fitted clothing. All this oversized, shapeless styles of clothing just makes me look like a puffy blob. Other than some short winter puffer jackets or a softshell jacket like North Face for working out or working in the yard or walking outside, all my coats have belts to at least show I have a shape. I don't buy any long coats without a belt. Thats a huge rule IMO for short ladies especially. Even the couple longer puffer coats I own have belts. I've always gravitated towards a covered up, fitted, classic silhouette as much as possible. And you didn’t go into it too much but too many prints or colors is also not really a part of these styles. Sure, Ralph Lauren has more colors, especially in their Summer clothing, but its in a tasteful way and not exploding at you. Neutrals are still at the forefront of the designer's lines you mentioned. And tweed!! Oh how I love - and nothing says "old money" or quiet luxury like a chunky tweed. A coat or jacket or pants for men or women is timeless and warm and feels so good to the hand. (Yes, I live in the North so I can wear all thick, luxurious fabrics for months and months!) Thank you for your take on this and yes- I'd love to see what you purchased from Brooks Brothers too! All of these styles to me are also what we called "preppy" way back when in the 80s. The 90s came and a lot of things went to hell 😢 including fashion (so called!)
I’m not quiet anything. I wore a white puffer coat, blue jeans, black bodysuit and white puffer boots today. I have pink boots and classic riding wear. Wear what you like and stop looking for others to define your style.
The trend and what you prefer it should be are 2 separate things. So if you’ll talk about trends, it should be about trends whether you like them or not. Up to the viewers to pick which ones they’ll be into. This was just all about your own judgment
Here in England many of us will be turning our backs on any styles that are deemed exotic, indecent or scruffy. We will be celebrating our heritage and culture by wearing traditional clothing that distinguishes us from the many foreigners that have come to live in our country. Our heritage and cultural traditions will generally see a massive enthusiastic revival in general as we strive to prevent the erosion of all that made this country great. The government and mainstream media have made such an aggressive push to try and squash our cultural traditions that it is going to be inevitable that we will see this powerful new wave as a backlash against its destructive ideology. It obviously won’t just be in terms of fashion however as we will definitely be boycotting all such anti English attitudes but we will see a markable increase in people overtly displaying their cultural identity through the clothing that they wear.
I have always disliked leggings as Street wear. Not flattering and too revealing. Love trousers but live a jeans lifestyle. Think northern Michigan woods. But still go there sometimes. This was fun.
I don’t like to be dressed up for every day but I think for special occasion I dress up but I always like to dress nice but not too nice if that makes sense I’m not wearing white to a wedding or anything like that
I do not understand the love and adoration for these designer bags… they are regular bags with an exorbitant price tag… it used to be that the bag came with quality and services… not anymore, so why bother?
I completely agree!!! Quality went way down. I walked into Prada the other day and most bags were not even real leather!!! So what am I paying for $5000???? The name? It was probably made in China 😂
Ever since I discovered Portland Leather Goods in 2019, I gave up all my designer bags, and never looked back. The only designer bag I kept was a clutch for the purpose of going to a formal event.
Val,you’re vibe is dark...even your decor. Lighten up...your style belies your bright personality. Colour does not equate tacky and the colour black does not equate wealth...old or otherwise.
Exactly, her vibe is dark. Your vibe is just you are, it's what pulls you and what you gravitates to. It's nothing to do with looking expensive or even trends. I've had a dark vibe since the age of 13 😅
Hmmm....and are you setting the example? Why not watch a channel that you feel inspired by? I don't decorate my home like Valentina; however, I appreciate her style and have learned many things from watching her channel.
My mother in law is 96 and lives in a nursing home and she wears her pleated trousers, stockings, Paton leather shoes, fitted tops and a string of pearls every day. She is the most elegant looking person there. Its such a beautiful timeless look.

what are paton leather shoes? do you mean paton or patent?
I love that
Why she doesn't live with her family??
I agree with your mother. The way you present yourself is very important
Putting myself together makes me feel good ❤
When I retired in 2019, I was determined not to slob around in torn jeans, ratty tshirts, & too-tight leggings at home or when I went out anywhere. I still have yet to have torn jeans but refused to pay for them.
Absolutely agree about proper dressing…respect, etc.

RESPECT!! Love it!
Respect others.
Respect yourself.
YES 🙌🏻
"Quiet Elegance" Love this term!!

Yes!! Want to see BB order.
I like quiet elegance as well. It is a better descriptor for the style.
just watching u two makes me happy

I love your white short pants suit. Thanks for sharing the 2024 trends!

I just discovered your channel and I love your philosophy about how dressing shows respect for yourself and others. Subscribing!
Excellent information and great inspiration. I enjoy quiet luxury/ elegance myself
Its the minimalist luxury that is coming from the 90’s i think 💭
I love this style❤
Well said. I couldn't agree more.
Oh yes, excited to see your Brooks Brothers haul! I found a second hand BB blazer, and it's gorgeous. I can afford a new one, it's NOT an over the top $ brand, but I love to see the Vintage stores, also. Great video, thank you!

I love your style. Yes, the 90's were good the 1st time; but we're older now. Let the kids enjoy it!!
You are perfectly delightful-I learned a lot in this video. Thanks for your time & resources 😊

Hi! Love you, love you channel! I designed for Ralph Lauren in the 90's - 2000's. Lauren is pronounced like the girl's name. 😊
Right! No leggins for the workplace
VALENTINA! Please see this message and share how I can get your hair color. What do you tell your colorist? Thank you

Totally agree! I get so tired of seeing the young and old dressing so casually for restaurants, work, and church. The first impression says a lot!!
The funny thing I have noticed is that some people who actually come from “old money” dress either super whacky or overly casual. I’ll assume it’s bc they just don’t care what anyone thinks.
You worked in Copenhagen? Where? My hometown 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 Unfortunately I’ve lived in Texas for the past 13 years; can’t wait to move back home …

There must be a hidden workout space on the airplane because most people look like they're going to work out once we take off😅
I live in Raleigh NC. What makes me sad is seeing people in theater venues wearing jeans or leggings and sloppy clothing and eating loudly or eating strong smelling food during a live performance. It seems disrespectful to me. And it diminishes my experience.
There’s antique and there’s vintage and I feel like before that there was old fashioned ha ha
Yea those trends are a little 👽👽
I was so trendy in the nineties I was wearing red for all of senior year I don’t know why
Girl.I’m a house mom and I wish I have a work just,and I repeat JUST,to get dressed properly every day. 😅😅
A short suit is called, or used to be called, a Walking suit.
💯

For me, when I actually make myself put on real pants and a nice shirt and shoes, it makes me feel like a lady and not a teenager. Also, real clothes are not as forgiving so it helps me keep my weight in check!!! I have had times in my life where months were spent in leggings or sweatpants and its easy to gain 20 lbs and not even notice! 😮I know! I did it! And thats not fun, or healthy.
Like you, and as a short woman myself, I need to have fitted clothing. All this oversized, shapeless styles of clothing just makes me look like a puffy blob. Blazers & coats are classic …. Short suits are questionable for workplace-
Leggings-all-day not for me either. Even if it’s the weekend. Love a modern classic with a little something different.
I have always disliked leggings as Street wear. Not flattering and too revealing. Love trousers but live a jeans lifestyle. Think northern Michigan woods. But still go there sometimes. This was fun.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When I decide to grow up I want Valentina style. I dress like a bum.
I don’t like to be dressed up for every day but I think for special occasion I dress up but I always like to dress nice but not too nice if that makes sense I’m not wearing white to a wedding or anything like that

I completely agree!!! Quality went way down. I walked into Prada the other day and most bags were not even real leather!!! So what am I paying for $5000???? The name? It was probably made in China 😂
Hedonic treadmill.
I completely agree.
Ever since I discovered Portland Leather Goods in 2019, I gave up all my designer bags, and never looked back. The only designer bag I kept was a clutch for the purpose of going to a formal event.
Too much anxiety over fashion. Relax.
Val,you’re vibe is dark...even your decor. Lighten up...your style belies your bright personality. Colour does not equate tacky and the colour black does not equate wealth...old or otherwise.
😂 your comment however equates to tacky… find someone who suits YOUR vibe
@@Reesh78EXACTLY!!!!👍
Exactly, her vibe is dark. Your vibe is just you are, it's what pulls you and what you gravitates to. It's nothing to do with looking expensive or even trends. I've had a dark vibe since the age of 13 😅
Dirty outfit for an interview??? I doubt it ! Don’t talk down to people.
Looks like Someone needs a hug!!
Hmmm....and are you setting the example? Why not watch a channel that you feel inspired by? I don't decorate my home like Valentina; however, I appreciate her style and have learned many things from watching her channel.
