Los Lakers Jims Hyundai has two luxury cars already (Genesis & Equus). Recent teasers & autoshows tells the next Genesis Coupe will leave the 'affordable sports car' territory and more align towards cars like the Audi A5, Mercedes C-coupe, BMW 4 and Lexus RC. Having that 3 cars will be enough to spawn a luxury division sub-brand (Lexus started out with only the LS400 & ES200).
***** Not really; China is also big on the brand thing as well; most car purchases there are of premium marquees. Then again, this is more a cultural thing that dictates the market. I would be very happy if I can buy a Toyota Mark X in Canada, but then the Lexus IS sales would be damaged. As for 'brand whores', I 'somewhat' agree. Too many idiots roaming around in base-model BMWs around here thinking they're in a luxury car *laughs*.
The similarities between the 2015 Ford Mustang 5.0 and the 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan 5.0 are both engines have the same displacement, direct injection, variable valve timing, timing chain, rear wheel drive, and 420 horsepower rating. The differences are obvious, like Mustang is a 2 door muscle car and convertible and the Genesis sedan is a luxury family sedan. Mustang can be had with a manual transmission or automatic transmission, while the Genesis is only available with only an automatic transmission. If only the Mustang had a eight speed automatic transmission, then it would be even.
I once got, not quite 30 mpg on the highway with 3 people in the car and a trunk full of luggage. If I put it in Eco mode, I can get 19-20 around town; that’s with summers fuel.
Seriously, who would pay $50k for a Huyndai? This Genesis has a great potential but Huyndai need to step up and make a separated brand for their luxury products. Look at how successful Lexus or Acura is ! However, making a separated Luxury brand wouldn't be cheap.
I have owned a 2015 Genesis 5.0 and now a 2018 Genesis G80 5.0 HTRAC. Go for the 2018 + model year. You will not be disappointed. Engine is solid, AWD performance is solid, ride-confort is there, and luxury is there. Fuel economy is on the low side though.
The only thing it's missing really is the snootyness of a German badge. Lexus barely got to that status in recent years, largely thanks to the last LS and LFA models. I haven't drive the car, so obviously I can't judge the refinement of the ride (surprising Cooley didn't mention anything on it, I guess that makes it average), but the quality of the materials and gadgets are finally there for Hyundai.
...I'm scaring myself. After seeing lots of quality control issues with the Charger (My own 2009 SXT AWD, plus lots of videos of the 2014 R/T), I'm considering this or an Audi. Blah.
zac I drive a 2011 BMW 550i 4 days ago...there is ZERO comparison to this car. Genesis is probably way more reliable, but the 550i was and is a no joke sports car with all the comfort you could want or need. BMWs issue lies within their engine issues, especially on the N63 engine types like the one in the 2009 to 2013 5 series.
No ''probably'' about it! Definitely more reliable than the Germans. Pay for the German name and your bank account will suffer especially when you see those repair bills and how much it cost to maintain those cars.
I have this car and while it's not a BMW or Mercedes (in terms of the name badge), I get a lot of head turns and people asking what kind of car it is. The front looks so nice I can't help but back in parking spots. Another one of my favorite features is when I unlock the car, or walk within a certain distance of the car, the side-view mirrors open and reveal a batman-like display on the ground but with the Genesis logo instead. Super classy car. Yes, there are a couple kinks that they need to work out, but absolutely no regrets. I would buy this car again in a heart beat... and will buy the newer Genesis and then the newer one and so on.
Is a BMW 550i a better driver's car? Absolutely. But the Genesis is a great balance between balance, comfort, power, performance, cost of ownership and reliability. But the N63 engines in the 550i are notoriously bad - full of problems and are money pits. Whereas this car will be reliable and not be a money pit for years and years and hundreds of thousands of miles. I say this with all seriousness, because even BMW enthusiasts would agree with this: if you are willing spend thousands and thousands of dollars on maintenance and repairs, then the BMW is a great choice. If not, then it's not the right choice for you. I'm probably going to buy this car come March 2019. Also considering the Lexus IS350 F-sport and the Lexus ISF. I thought about the F10 550i, which is about the same price as all of those on the used market. I was really tempted by the fact that I can get a manual. What pushed me away from the 550i was all the maintenance nightmares and repair bills people have with them.
I'm. Really upset the 9.2 inch touch screen doesn't have apple car play but the small screens does that stupid but other then that I love my 2015 hyundai genesis 3.8 ultimate package
Hi There...female internet manager for a Canadian Hyundai dealer. Wow...I can't get over the testosterone on this feed! Anyway; yes in the Canadian Market the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedans are standard All Wheel Drive (the 5.0 & the 3.8) the system is called HTRAC. Same all wheel drive system as the BMW xDrive just the updated version built by the same manufacturer. It's the best in the industry. I've driven the 5.0 & the 3.8 and both are incredible vehicles. The safety features may not be something you think you'd use, like the lane assist, the blind spot detection and the heads-up display but when they're activated they perform on their own and you don't even realize until the wheel vibrates and then corrects your steering when you fail to correct it yourself. We've all gotten lazy with our driving or know someone who has fallen asleep at the wheel. These features will prevent serious collisions. I've also tested the emergency braking and come to a complete stop without ever touching the brake. This sedan rides smoothly and holds the road well on aggressive corners. As for the recycled rubbermaid interior...you clearly haven't done your research man. The leather is flawless, the woodgrain material...is guess what; open pore wood. The metal accents are pure aluminum. I can't say enough about the value a consumer is getting for their hard-earned dollar with this luxury sedan. If you watch the reviews (this one is .... meh) most of them gush about this 2nd generation Genesis. Hyundai by the way is now one of the top auto manufacturers. There's more to the design of this car than most people realize as well as our other models.
Don't like the assymetric look of the front air vents. I didn't buy a 7 series because I hated the 2 steering wheel options, so yeah, small things bug me.
Man, is this a sexy looking vehicle. Even as I write this comment in 2022. The auto start and stop feature is bullsh_t as we all know from the wear and tear on the cylinders, but Brian (the reviewer in this video) doesn't know that yet.
Hyundai is all about ergonomics, reliability, and low cost of ownership. Engine stop/start would only prove to be unreliable. Imagine starting your car 30 plus times a day, the battery and the starter take a beating. Regenerative braking to save fuel? in a 4,500 lb car? with a fat V8? please It's not a BMW, but it's also not $70k
Are you serious? Auto Start/Stop turns the engine off when the car is standing still. When you release your foot from the break, The starter motor quickly starts the engine before you have time to hit the gas pedal. And when the engine is not running, every electronic device; fans, lights, radio, heated seats, etc., are running off of the battery.
But it does. It's one of three reasons they put a battery in every car since the starter motor was invented. Without a battery in the car you would have a little handle sticking out of an AMG S-Class to start it with. Stop start on V8 luxury cars is stupid anyway. Imagine trying to save electricity in your house by flicking your lights on and off at the switch every 20 seconds. you would end up burning the bulb out and wearing the switch out. You really want so save gas in a 5.0L V8?
Seth Glenn Hey guess what - cars don't have starter motors anymore. Yup. They pulse a fuel injector and spark plug on the cylinder that last came up on compression when the engine stopped. That way there's no wear on a starter or the battery and the alternator doesn't have to recharge the battery, saving fuel. Auto start/stop makes a significant difference as well and its one of the ways a company is allowed to build a 4,500 pound V8 sedan with tightening fuel economy regulations. So please, do some research the next time you feel the need to be so critical and ignorant.
All you mofo's are smoking some here!!! This new Genesis is beautiful I just wish I can afford it for now b/c another new car means 3 vehicle in my parking lot. I want this and the 2015 Genesis Concept car. Go check it out. Who ever said we (Koreans) can't accomplish.....don't bet your money on it
I hate that people is saying it's a hyundai I remember not long ago people were making jokes about Honda/Acura,Nissan/Infiniti,Toyota/Lexus Hyundai please make it a separate entity and you will surpass Lexus ,and Infiniti
@@mercedesbenzs600bash G70 is the sportier sedan, then G80 mid size luxury and the G90 is the full size luxury. The new SUV is GV80. And it is not the Palisade, not even the same wheel base. GV80 is a different platform, and rear wheel drive based.
Hyandai and Kia needs to bring luxury brand like Toyota brought Lexus or Nissan have Infiniti. Koreans are making good cars but no one want to buy 40-50K kia or hyandai no matter how good or luxury car they make.
Yes they do, that's why the Genesis got a second generation. This car is loaded with stuff at $55,000 that you couldn't get otherwise on any german luxury automaker for the same price. Badges aren't always everything.
In the US, nearly 30k people bought a Genesis in 2014...The only thing keeping more potential buyers out of Hyundai dealerships is ignorance. $60k for this car gets you a crap load of tech and real leather. $60k for a German car in the same class gets you a prestigious badge, halogen headlights and about a $20,000 life of ownership maintenance bill.
Brandon Wiggins I own a Kia Forte5. And yes it's a freaking ton cheaper than this thing (less than half the cost) and let me tell you, it's I macula for just being a little hatchback. Even compared to my friends 2013 Infiniti G37. My car is two years newer and is the same price as his car. Has way more tech features, yes less hp, but it's a 4 cylinder, does have a turbo. People hate it. They want nothing to do with this unique oddball little car because of three letters. KIA. I agree, people need to stop hating on the badge and be less ignorant. I want a Genesis coupe really badly, and in a few years might get one. Although not a 5.0 luxury car, I would rather get the 2013 3.8 due to the potential in terms of tracking it.
Um Toyota owns Lexus it was never bought it was a way for Toyota to start a luxury brand in the U.S.. Same with Nissan who owns Infiniti and Honda who own Acura
Moneyneversaves Irrelevant, but I always find it funny when people mention Asian luxury car makers and mention Lexus and Infiniti, but not Acura xD. Poor Acura earns no one's praise.
The rear of the car (tail lights and trunk etc.) remind me a bit too much of the new Chevy Impala. It's kind of meh. Otherwise, it's pretty neat except for the barge like 4500 lbs which almost ruins the point of having a 5.0L engine with that paltry 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds. Kind of like the Lexus GS460 vs. GS350 of that generation -- almost similar performance 0-60 despite the engine upgrade. But, it's not like I can afford one so who am I to say anything? Hehe.
A little touchy there eh? I was comparing the tail lights and rear end to the way the Chevy Impala's looks. Wide gap between the tail lights and thin wide lens. If you thought that was blasphemy, how about the fact that the new Mazda 6 tail lights look similar the Lexus GS350, or that the '12 Kia Optima /'15 Sonata/'13 Ford Fusion tails look almost the same? Or the Ford Escape/Hyundai Santa Fe (whichever SUV) tail lights? Kia Rio/Ford Focus tails? LOL. Fact is a lot of the cars today have design aspects that appear similar across different brands almost to a fault.
Hyundai/Genesis stomps the German brands into the ground when it come to reliability. How many decades does it take for the Germans to get their stuff together when it comes to reliability? "German engineering" still means - enjoy your drive once again to the repair shop. German reliabilty continues to remain poor despite the high price tags. The numbers clearly demonstrate that the German brands still have premium pricing with minimum reliability. Get it together!

If only the Mustang had a eight speed automatic transmission, then it would be even.
i
Why on Earth even throw Mustang here?? Are you making a comparison or what?? No point what so ever....
S.T T. I'm just comparing the engines, not the cars. The engines have the same displacement 5.0 Liter V8 engines.
Tim Joseph So? These days many engines from different companies have the same displacement.

When the prices of cars drop this my go 2
The 3.8 V6 has GREAT mpg. Up to 29mpg on the highway.
Yeah I really like that one,the AWD version...
I once got, not quite 30 mpg on the highway with 3 people in the car and a trunk full of luggage. If I put it in Eco mode, I can get 19-20 around town; that’s with summers fuel.
I kept hearing MJ's Heee Heee Hooo Hoo in the beginning haha
Seriously, who would pay $50k for a Huyndai? This Genesis has a great potential but Huyndai need to step up and make a separated brand for their luxury products. Look at how successful Lexus or Acura is ! However, making a separated Luxury brand wouldn't be cheap.
Pedro Pedrosoy well said
They did it halfway by using the Genesis symbol. I bet if it takes off they will just make the luxury brand "GENESIS".
A person that doesn't wanna pay $75-80k for an E550 or 550i. You're saving like $20k out the door and getting twice the warranty too.
What about Hyundai resale value? You win some, you lose some.
You're implying the Genesis doesn't sell well.
It's sells far more in number than do Acura and Infiniti.
Highly debating trading in for one of these. Anyone have any issues with them? I currently have a G37x and would like to know how they compare.
"This non-hybrid doesn't even have brake force regeneration!" lol
what's with the audio quality? everyone should check out a review from savagegeese, this one is rather lite on everything but the tech.
@ 4:06 that really looks like the old Sega Genesis logo
The only thing it's missing really is the snootyness of a German badge. Lexus barely got to that status in recent years, largely thanks to the last LS and LFA models. I haven't drive the car, so obviously I can't judge the refinement of the ride (surprising Cooley didn't mention anything on it, I guess that makes it average), but the quality of the materials and gadgets are finally there for Hyundai.
How do y get sound...
...I'm scaring myself. After seeing lots of quality control issues with the Charger (My own 2009 SXT AWD, plus lots of videos of the 2014 R/T), I'm considering this or an Audi. Blah.
Nice 🎉
Nice cuff links at 2:14
Who would have this over a Merc or BMW??
zac I drive a 2011 BMW 550i 4 days ago...there is ZERO comparison to this car.
Genesis is probably way more reliable, but the 550i was and is a no joke sports car with all the comfort you could want or need. BMWs issue lies within their engine issues, especially on the N63 engine types like the one in the 2009 to 2013 5 series.
Me - because it will probably be more reliable and way cheaper to own!
What pushed me away from the 550i was all the maintenance nightmares and repair bills people have with them.
uh oh sounds like were going to wear head gears when we drive soon lol.
I'm. Really upset the 9.2 inch touch screen doesn't have apple car play but the small screens does that stupid but other then that I love my 2015 hyundai genesis 3.8 ultimate package
Apple Carplay is now available with a Navigation software update. As of 10/2023.
Anyone else notice his gear shift pattern cufflinks?
They should offer this engine for the coupe
I'd paint the grill black and get black rims.
You read my mind
thats my plan when i get one

They appear to be offering the V8 AWD on Hyundai Canada. Can anyone confirm?

Is good
Don't like the assymetric look of the front air vents. I didn't buy a 7 series because I hated the 2 steering wheel options, so yeah, small things bug me.
The front looks like a mix of the newer Ford focus and a Chrysler
Looks similar to the Coyote 5.0 V8
I think this is the BMW 7 series F01 :)
Man, is this a sexy looking vehicle. Even as I write this comment in 2022. The auto start and stop feature is bullsh_t as we all know from the wear and tear on the cylinders, but Brian (the reviewer in this video) doesn't know that yet.
Black or white by M.J?
It's cbs music
nice cuff links ;)
COOLEST. CUFF LINKS. EVER!
What is the best bang for your buck luxury car for $40k.
mercedes e350
+Dandre Ingram personal opinion
ayye
At that price point I really like the new Ford Fusion.
E350 costs around $55k in the U.S.
Hyundai is all about ergonomics, reliability, and low cost of ownership.
Engine stop/start would only prove to be unreliable. Imagine starting your car 30 plus times a day, the battery and the starter take a beating.
Regenerative braking to save fuel? in a 4,500 lb car? with a fat V8? please
It's not a BMW, but it's also not $70k
the battery doesn't really get used in auto start stop.
Seth Glenn I meant it doesn't really get used when the engine gets started.
So please, do some research the next time you feel the need to be so critical and ignorant.
it still shouts korean drama all over the car
All you mofo's are smoking some here!!! This new Genesis is beautiful I just wish I can afford it for now b/c another new car means 3 vehicle in my parking lot. I want this and the 2015 Genesis Concept car. Go check it out. Who ever said we (Koreans) can't accomplish.....don't bet your money on it
2:37 is that iDrive
No, It's Hyundai's Software
Genesis is the most pwerful car
I'll take a 2015 Infiniti Q70 V6 3.7 any day.
I like is it 5speed I want one.
It's an 8 speed
Thats a 3rd gen, first was the coupe, then they made it a sedan around 2012 and updated it 2015....they all look different...
That's one of the most fare reviews I have ever heard
I'll take this over ANY German sedan NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!👍🏻 German cars ARE overrated for the PRICE! TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!💯
I hate when reviewers say,it's not a BMW,it's not meant to be a BMW,why even say that,it makes absolutely no sense....
is the finish really that much worse than Mercedes and BMW?
I hate that people is saying it's a hyundai I remember not long ago people were making jokes about Honda/Acura,Nissan/Infiniti,Toyota/Lexus Hyundai please make it a separate entity and you will surpass Lexus ,and Infiniti
It is separate now. Its now Genesis motors. They have G80, G90 and G70. As far as I know they will have new SUVs soon under Genesis brand
@@Binara What do the numbers mean???? The SUV is the PALISADE...
@jamar reid Never say never, there really pretty reliable and durable....
I never heard anyone say jokes about those top brands, especially HONDA and TOYOTA,they were solid from the beginning....
@@mercedesbenzs600bash G70 is the sportier sedan, then G80 mid size luxury and the G90 is the full size luxury. The new SUV is GV80. And it is not the Palisade, not even the same wheel base. GV80 is a different platform, and rear wheel drive based.
My dad has this car
Poor Acura earns no one's praise.
cool car, but damn - $55,000 is up there and I think most people would rather go for a german car for that money.
go for what ? mercedes ? bmw ? you wont even get a fully loaded c300 nor a 335i
The rear of the car (tail lights and trunk etc.) remind me a bit too much of the new Chevy Impala. Hehe.
LOL how can you compare a cheap shit Impala with the Genesis? you are full of shit.
Slovflyer Whats next? Focus vs 911 Porsche? Comparing luxurious Genesis vs shitty GM trash???
Pedro Pedrosoy It's just an opinion, you shouldn't care about it.
Im not seeing Impala in this not sure where you got that from
This or a dove charger
Depends on what you want. More luxury (genesis), or more performance (charger).
savagegeese did a better review
Hyundai/Genesis stomps the German brands into the ground when it come to reliability. How many decades does it take for the Germans to get their stuff together when it comes to reliability?
"German engineering" still means - enjoy your drive once again to the repair shop. German reliabilty continues to remain poor despite the high price tags. The numbers clearly demonstrate that the German brands still have premium pricing with minimum reliability. Get it together!
This is not a hybrid so it cannot have Brake regeneration.
Apparently the V6 version of this car gets zero to 60 in 7.2 seconds... so screw that, buy the V8!
A R lol
