Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov - Mlada: Procession of the Nobles
Rimsky-Korsakov often based his music on works of the fantastical and exotic. Mlada is no exception. Set a thousand years ago in an imaginary kingdom, the Princess Mlada has been murdered by a rival, Voyslava, for her lover, Yaromir. Mlada’s spirit intervenes between them and has Voyslava confess to Yaromir, who then executes her. The opera ends with Mlada and Yaromir ascending to heaven together. The opera is not performed, and the only music from it that is performed today is the Procession of the Nobles, which was the introduction to Act II, and announces the entry of the town’s nobility with a brass flourish.
This unforgettable afternoon of breathtaking music and soaring voices showcases some of the most beloved opera choruses ever written, performed by an exceptional group of musicians featuring San Jose Symphonic Choir, De Anza College Chorale and Vintage Singers under the direction of IIan Glassman, DMA, Conductor. Soloists Soprano Karli Sharp, Mezzo Soprano IIaria Sacchi and Tenor Raul Villasenor under the direction of Anthony Quartuccio, Music Director - Nova Vista Symphony.
