  • Here is our 2006 Buick Lucerne with a small antifreeze leak, most likely Intake manifold gaskets (seems to be common). Car has 109,000 Miles. Have never dug this far into a 3.8 before it was a little intimidating at first but this one seemed pretty straight forward. This is part 1 of 6. Identifying leak and cleaning. Depending on the year my 2006 Lucerne 3.8 . Didn't have freeze plugs on back of block between motor and bellowing. There was a plate that the rear seal fits in that also has water jacket holes in it . And was leaking anti freeze from the plate.had to separate transmission from motor replace gasket and real main seal. Also had to drop the oil pan to get the plate to seal because the plate seals to the oil pan

Can the LIM be mistaken for head gasket replacement? My mechanic told me the heads aren't blown, but that the thermostat has to stay out of the car until winter or it will get hot again. He also believes the problem is still the head gasket even though it is not blown, does this make sense? 2008 Buick Lacrosse 82k miles.
