I still know very little about the story and I’ve played heavily since 2004. Edit: also, saying WoW’s gameplay is as simple as Tetris is pretty ridiculous
fatarsemonkey I agree that story is important to a degree, but after playing hundreds or even thousands of hours of a video game, be it Oblivion or Skyrim or Warcraft, story doesn’t mean anything to me when you can essentially go through the entire story in a day or two of reading. What matters over 15 years to me is the longevity of the gameplay. In my second favorite game, Oblivion, the story is very important to me. But without the RPG elements, without the combat, without leveling up, it would be just that: a story. I would be done with the game once I complete the story.
My dad and I played warcraft 2 for years till his passing every time I play wow i always think of him. He was ally i was hord but he will always be my king...
I was really hoping that the "out-of-left-field promotion to Warchief" would've taught Sylvanas responsibility/perspective, and was also (previously) hoping that the Teldrassil burning would turn out to actually be Wrathion's fault (who framed Sylvanas under the assumption that the Alliance would never believe her "Not Me This Time" side of the story). And then we would finally have our very first "Alliance is the (gullible) aggressor, and Horde is the (unjustly persecuted) defender" war, thus creating a bit more moral ambiguity this time around. (and then we, the Horde players, would undergo an investigation subplot that ends up clearing Sylvanas' name and exposing Wrathion as the slimy "play both sides against each other" manipulator he truly is) But since Blizzard somehow believes they require yet another villainous ex-Warchief (to drive the plot of the next few post-Legion expansions), they skipped out on a great opportunity (the above-mentioned "Sylvanas as an antihero" suggestion in the past paragraph) in favor of their preferred "the obvious suspect was indeed the culprit after all!" angle. (*sigh*) Such a disappointment. But complaints aside, here's to hoping that Shadowlands gives us enough context to finally justify Blizzard's label of Sylvanas as "morally grey". (so that even we, the audience, don't forgive Sylvanas, we can at least understand and (maybe) better sympathize with her)
@@topnotchshinobi I don't see why Wrathion would want a war between Alliance and Horde. And it seems like you don't understand the true nature of Sylvanas, she is a very selfish person. Everything she did (like gathering up Forsaken) was to have a vengance on Arthas, and when he finally died, she wanted to kill herself because there was no reason for her to be 'alive'. But the afterlife was so dreadful that she doesn't want to 'die' anymore by any means (or want to die but no that way). This is why she made a deal with the Jailer and waged war and burned Teldrassil to feed him up. What's the deal and what she is getting in the end is unknown for now, but probably something like a freedom for her spirit.
Arthas Story on a Blizzard animated Netflix/Amazon show. The movie was an okay introduction to the world. But this story has the most potential for sure
soo.. whats your take? why do you think Sylvannas is evil? so far everytime we get some more bits from her it seems like she whats to do a good thing in the end. she clearly thinks the Forsaken get treated wrong in the afterlife. maybe every forsaken gets trown into the maw instead of getting their right place or something worse. to cause a revolution in the shadowlands she clearly needs to feed some power to the chained shadowy figure so she caused a war on purpose and let Hellya somehow channel to the right place to power up her chained shadowbuddy. we need to see the end to judge if shes evil thou.
@@AsprosOfAzeroth I'm saying it doesn't make sense. Blizzard has quite a few match-ups over the years and a good few of them are known to be one-sided (arthas/illidan, arthas/dranosh, sylvanas/saurfang, sylvanas/bolvar, saurfang/malfurion). Even though you can argue that some of those match-ups were really great; the truth is every one of them would be so much better if the sides were more even or, at least, the losing side got some great licks in before being defeated. Speaking of which, Sylvanas's power scale has been getting ridiculous. For example, she comments that the helm of domination is "so much power" yet Bolvar didn't get.....a.....single....hit on her. There's a lot of potential in the story but I worry that Blizzard will fall flat on the execution of the climax. Similar to game of thrones with Arya and the night king.
@@nicholaskinkaid I dont know man . Sylvanas have the power of the Jailer so its not quite "alone" and the Jailer is a creature dating before the titans and the old gods so in my mind he is more powerfull than some spirit of a old god in a helm.On the other side Bolvar never need it to use the power of the helm.He was just smth like prisioner.Even Sylvanas said it "You are unfit to wear this helmet " . Of course I immediately used my graduation present to buy a wow capable computer and the game, but this time I rolled Lurgar, an Orc Shaman, who still exists today, even though I don’t play anymore. Mal’Ganis from day one, with a the occasional stop over on Silverhand to visit my Caelestus Templar buddies (Varth, Andy, Burns badasses all three of you) or get that RP out of my system (fishing trips to various lakes around Azeroth with some other friends)
@Life With Honor You... do not sound right somehow... I am a guy and all but yes, we are all equal in both rights and responsibilities regardless of gender, orientation or race. And yeah, quite a few girls are stronger than guys mentally and physically. However, guys are expected to be calmer, smarter and stronger b/c they are expected to be leaders, but let's not clash the two concepts - what is expected due to nature and what is right morally - against each other. Just because guys are expected to do great things in life (which is cool) does not mean women are supposed to restrain themselves from it.
@Life With Honor Or you know, it's a fantasy game where there's magic and stuff involved, so nowhere is it stated for here to be stronger than men in pure strength? Anyway, what's your problem with having female characters in the game as well?
Awesome catch, thanks! I actually felt something during that, but didn't know why... "My son" (WotLK) is one of the most beatiful themes from the wacraft universe.
It's also, to my knowledge, the only piece of music that was in both the single player games and WoW. It's the last thing we hear in WarCraft 3 (look up the end cinematic for The Frozen Throne), and it's also in WoW. They were very careful and deliberate in choosing the music.
She should not have been able to even stand in the presence of The Lich King. Arthas would have crushed her under his cold boot. What a tragic disaster this is. The lore is shattered.
Sword of the Morning the thing is, we don’t know what power she harnessed. It’s hard to say if it’s unaccurate lore wise since we don’t know the real length of her power at this point.

I had the opportunity to become part of the first generation of Blood Knights. After 12 years I still serve proudly as a paladin for the blood elves and a soldier fighting under the Crimson & Ebony! Here's hoping that the adventure still has a good number of years to go! Long live Warcraft!!! Long live Azeroth!!! And LONG LIVE THE HORDE!!!!!
I wonder if thrall will stop hiding and lead the horde again, or at least take care of the orcish side, even if they don't take a warchief and instead create some kind of Horde Round Table
Virgilio ventura maybe... I don’t know who will become Warchief now because Thrall didn’t seem to want to in the Old Soldier cinematic and Saurfang is dead... I think it’s most likely Baine who will be Warchief. I think Thrall will stay and help lead though. I know we have a council now but I guarantee that it Will end up dissolving
After seeing this i want a sequel to the Warcraft movie even more. I wish i still had the time to play WOW. Out of all the games i have played it was the most fun.
Well, as Sylvanas plainly said it in Da book, he was High King. He commanded respect not only from his peer leaeders , but also from enemy leaders, and more so, the orcs. Don't forget his capture. I do think he was indeed fighting for Azeroth as a whole, with the hope and trust that he himself said he learned from Anduin, that in the future differences and grudges can be put aside, and peace finally settles once and for all over Azeroth. On a more RP level, I am a blood elf and i'd gladly follow High King Varyan anywhere he would lead us, if he were to rule all of Azeroth. His would be a long, peaceful reign. Lok'tar Ogar!
I prefer the Horde but Varian is a memorable and honorable one,and i would be so glad to be under his wings if i would be the fighter of the Alliance. We will never forget him.

The only time I ever complained about an expansion was Cataclysm. Because the shift to 10-man raiding destroyed all the guilds and communities on my server. But otherwise, I have always been a fan of the games and the world, and always liked the writing and storytelling as well. Yes I know... if I take out my magnifying glasses and go searching I can find plotholes, inconsistencies and what not in the story. But why would I? I focus on the good things. There is enough people out there already ruining their own fun by trying their damndest to point out the "bad" in everything.
I loved the game since day one. It wasn't ever perfect, but it was the next best thing. But now it is going down a path I will not follow, and so I must say goodbye.
I don't doubt that any WoW player I'd have had as a teacher would have said that. Problem is, I only know one teacher who plays WoW. And I've never had him as a teacher (I had him as a cover teacher once, but only for a day, and I don't even know if he knew I was in the class).

fatarsemonkey I agree that story is important to a degree, but after playing hundreds or even thousands of hours of a video game, be it Oblivion or Skyrim or Warcraft, story doesn’t mean anything to me when you can essentially go through the entire story in a day or two of reading. What matters over 15 years to me is the longevity of the gameplay. In my second favorite game, Oblivion, the story is very important to me. But without the RPG elements, without the combat, without leveling up, it would be just that: a story. I would be done with the game once I complete the story.

Hearing Vol'jin say "You must step out of the shadows and lead", and cutting to Sylvanas watching Teldrassil burn, is a brilliant and chilling edit.
(and then we, the Horde players, would undergo an investigation subplot that ends up clearing Sylvanas' name and exposing Wrathion as the slimy "play both sides against each other" manipulator he truly is)
But since Blizzard somehow believes they require yet another villainous ex-Warchief (to drive the plot of the next few post-Legion expansions), they skipped out on a great opportunity (the above-mentioned "Sylvanas as an antihero" suggestion in the past paragraph) in favor of their preferred "the obvious suspect was indeed the culprit after all!" angle.
(*sigh*) Such a disappointment.
But complaints aside, here's to hoping that Shadowlands gives us enough context to finally justify Blizzard's label of Sylvanas as "morally grey". (so that even we, the audience, don't forgive Sylvanas, we can at least understand and (maybe) better sympathize with her)
Strokes can happen at any time.
“We will never be slaves”
“Cheers”
Immediately cuts to enslaved undead screams.

I'd say the Horde cheering for Sylvanas is also somewhat ironic there.
