It sounds really good. Cool. Yep its a ripper. Carb was ready after an hour or so. no need to soak it two days or even over night that is waay over kill. Just an hour or two. Like the heat darkened the alluminum it will be fine. Its heat darkened or maybe the purple cleaner stained it. That would not happen if you had only run it in the ultra sonic for only an hour or two. Its really really clean now. build a littel wood shed close next to the yurt and keep your wood dry and handy for the snowy winter days.

Hi Jason, glad you got your motor to run, doesn’t mater if you go dot to dot(that is called the overlap) or firing at number 6, or crank at 12 and cam at 12 as long as crank is always at 12, important thing is that before dropping distributor in make sure your on TDC compression stroke, intake valve will just have closed, the reason most people use the dot to dot method is it is easier to make sure you are lined up accurately, but you always want to roll the motor over before installing the distributor 😀😀

If the body of the carb is all aluminum then it is discolored from the cleaning solution. If you wanted it to shine you MIGHT be able to polish it, but if it works use it.

It's the venerable small block Chevy, I'm not at all surprised you got it running even in the neglected condition it was in. With properly sealing valves, should be a good runner. And on another note, seems like I've seen a lot of you-tubers using Pine-sol for their ultra-sonic cleaners.

  • @marcbona2686

The super clean discolored your carb. It doesn't react well with aluminum. Use pine sol in your ultrasonic cleaner. It won't tarnish aluminum. The carb is fine to reassemble and use, though.

I run the chevy small blocks both ways, but if you miss it, just rotate 180% done deal.....
just a guess, it's steel cam timing gear, not one of those die cast plastics.
you never said, did you ever get the books, it has it all you ever need to know in them.
Any time you get an unknown engine such as this engine was to you, it is tear down time. inspect the cam, cam bearings, rod pins pistons rods and rod bearings and son on.
crack and crack bearings, fly by night is never been the way to roll.
50 years ago, I could buy on the cheap new power plants muscle car engine almost new and many were. 150 bucks to 300 for big blocks race ready. that shipped sailed long ago. it's way to time costly and money wise costly. verify everything before you seal it up to call it good.
no more hammer and chisel....... look at how well you did with the suspensions, cleaned it all up, OEM parts perfect, so how is it the thing that makes the car actually work,
why wouldn't there be even more time put in to the engine to be sure it's all been properly
set up. being a DIY mechanic, all the more reason to cover our back side, or in other words,
wasted money can mean less money beans at the table., 40 years in the trades.
The Bless You and Yours........... Jesus is Lord.
I have terminal cancer, plus there is issues with having my aorta artery has bubble in it, told
it sizing up to burst, 6 and 7 is were it is heading into, game over.
I figure if I have something here worth saying, better get it done now. amen. love this car project, can't wait to see you blow the rims off this El Comino. rock on brother.
You will be an expert by the time you get it done, follow through other wise, it's time wasted
    you can never recover.
