I am impressed by how creative North Korean architects are in devising novel and attractive solutions to mass housing, although not all their experiments are a success in aesthetic terms. This is in contrast to the drab, utilitarian mass housing of the Soviet Union and the GDR which was not a good advertisement for socialism. I am particularly impressed by how these architects have overcome the constraints on the availability of certain construction materials due to the imperialist blockade.
