I happened upon you channel when you were talking about the corn thief. It interested me because I really could not believe that people would steal corn. Well I know people who have swiped a dozen or so ears of sweet corn but this guy was beyond the pale. I have subscribed and followed since. I saw your story about the 9 yr old who got killed and you mentioned your foot so I had to go back and look and DAMN! I would be willing to bet you a new bailer of your choosing that just before you stuck your foot in that spot a little voice in your head said " you know you really shouldn't put your foot there or just shut the damn thing down first". You who have been a farmer since God made dirt knew better. Always listen to the little voice..Glad that you lived to tell the tale.
James T me too and actually what i did was not really that close to the pickup but it got me anyway now i don't go anywhere near the damn thing unless its stoped
I had my foot stuck between a tool box and a 3 points on my father's tractor many years ago. I still don't feel my point where the compression happened to be. Don't call yourself stupid. Time and unforseen events happen to us all!
@PierreaSweedieCat i really did not stick it in there the hay was just on the pickup finger and all i did was kick it the thing that happened was the hay was wet and it grabbed my foot and drug me into the damn thing i am very lucky that i am still here. to show this it was scary being stuck in that thing.
Hi Wes, I posted on your first foot vid, about my grandfather losing his hand. I think what happened to you is what happened to him; the knives grabbed his hand feeding it and because of all the dirt, hay and shit, they could not save his hand. I'm glad you were not hurt like that. Keep up the work, you are doing good for this country and I thank you!
Here's the story I always think of when around running quipment. My mother told be this story about a high school friend of her's, this guy (can't remember his name) was out putting fence poles with a 3 point auger. He got wrapped up in the auger, as he had dismounted and went back to it for some reason. He was found hours later by his mother as blood and pieces. Auger still running of course. Now that I farm myself, if I do dismount while whatever I'm doing is running I stand next to the back tire on the outside and observe.
I think I already told you, but I got my left hand caught in the power roller of a Gehl round baler back in the 1970s. Probably the reason I had surgery a few years back to relieve pain from arthritis. I had to use all my body weight to pull it out and it looked a lot like your foot after a couple of days. I was lucky too that the tractor was a Ford and that it had a hydraulic PTO control. Just a quick flip from the boss and the baler was on and off............but I was hung in there.
i hope you heal up soon. i know how you feel last august i broke my back by falling down of a chopper. do you have an insurance for that kind of accidents in us?
Dang, you were very lucky. I still don't think you told us how you were saved. My dad had to rescue a neighboring farmer many many years ago that got stuck in a corn picker and was there overnight. He lost the use of his arm and had to quit farming.
My neighbour who was not raised on a farm has an old ford tractor and it was cold out and the power take off clutch was grabbing. So he decided to try and stop it, with his hands. The power takeoff twisted his arm right off because his snowmobile glove got caught in it. Because he thought he could stop a 100 horse power tractor power takeoff with his right hand he is now left handed. Sucks to be him, and he is an even bigger ass hole now, thats long term effects haha.
if you want at that point, doing a taping might help to reduce the swelling, give you more support and help you to walk on your foot again. I know that your foot probably healed since that video shooting, but I'm sharing these counsels for anybody else who would have the same issues!
I realize this clip is old. Not likely Wes will see my post. But it's worth a shot. Watched this twice. Sorry it happened. Glad you're ok. But you never mentioned how you got your foot out. You mentioned re-engaging the PTO to avoid a possible fire etc. But to me you left out the most important part of the story. How you got your foot dislodged from the machine. Not trying to hassle you. I'm a fan. Just like to hear the complete story. Thanks in advance.
Dude, If I were you I would've gone out and bought lottery tickets after that. One farmer did that here, and his wife found the tractor and the baler still running (they estimated) about an hour later, with what was left of him inside the baler.
watching this video I am reminded of the tractor safety videos and a freind that lost the use of his arm and almost was killed in a chopper box becuase he did something not so smart either.. You cannot be replaced Brother... always think that time turning off that baler would have saved a lot of time trouble and safety safety safety it cannot be emphasized enough on the farm.
Be careful your not super human, your very lucky, you got a lot of people that depend on you, just the look on Tim's face says a lot. I hope you heal quickly.
Not to give you another bs comment but, that's why I like you Wes. We are close In age and upbringing, you also have principles. Except for editing quality, that's the same guy.
I know this video is like 7 yrs old now, but all I can say is that you're lucky it was your foot instead of the leg, it would've pulled you in wouldn't it have?
Holy shit man!!!! shut the machine down!!! your lucky that clutch wasn't new or you would be DEAD right now!!! I know and I'm sure you do too of people who have died cause they were sucked in trying to unplug a bailer when its running... round or square... consider this a blessing and buy a lottery ticket!
Shut the PTO off before leaving the tractor I know this is an old post but , I am 68 years old ,... When I was a kid there was a lot of men with out fingers or hands or arms why???I ask unplugging combines or snapping rolles on corn pickers while running>... Shut off the PTO...
Dude: Listen Farmer, I know you love doctors "almost a much as you love deer corn thieves", but I am worried, that paw looks bad. Could you at least consider going to see an MD? Ya gotta worry about the long term effects. It is not really stupidity, but more of a freak accident. Not calling you a freak, but the accident is a freak. Safety first mon! There are too few of you guys left... But WHY did ya put your foot in there? You're smarter, better educated, better experienced... WHY?
BOY.....you really really showed your stupidity ! ! ! What the hell ever possesed you to stick your foot int there???just stupid and boy are you lucky.........WHAT did you learn from that??????

You stuck your foot in there? Wow is all I can say. Your just lucky that the boot took most of it and it was not your legs down in there.
I was stupider than you. I got in the way while my grandpa was brush hogging and he ran over my foot.
