I agree...it makes sense that he keeps on playing his old guitar....there is already a "relationship". And I think most musicians would be put off by the MASSIVE branding on that gift! :-D

How silly of Takamine to give him a different kind of guitar than his old one, instead of a replica close to the original. The new one has a cutaway, looks like it has a thinner body and even has an ugly (branded) pickguard. I’m sure it won’t sound as full as the original, nor would Hansard wish to promote Takamine every time he performs. This guitar isn’t going to create any joy.
I didnt get it. He didnt accept the present or why the other two comments here? What's that guitar model? Its a dreadnought, he went to letterman's show with a NEX shaped takamine last year
I don‘t think he declined the gift, he just said that he will keep on using his old NP15. The new one is a great thing, yet a true guitarist will always want to play and get to know a guitar before he uses it on stage. By the way, the NP15 has an awesome sound, I myself own a Takamine from the early 90‘s, they are something special, I wouldn‘t trade mine either. I also don‘t understand those comments about him being rude, Glen is the most non-rude person one could imagine
He said that afterwards he was told that Takamine were embarrassed by the condition of his old guitar and he subsequently decided not to take/accept it.
It was a genuine mark of respect.

It's just a thin plastic wrap they apply to the pickguard to keep it new from factory, it can and should be peeled off after purchase.
