Thank you gentlemen for actually talking about the specific events and details of the film. So many reviews and comments just talk about the movie they wanted not the movie that was made. Nobody else i heard yet was even talking about the character arcs. You guys are on point. Excellent review.

Jesse Plemons small role was absolutely freaking terrifying in how subtle it was.

In terms of Jesse Plemons' character, he wasn't with anyone. He was a hidden faction. They were in Virginia, which would automatically assume he's a Loyalist. But when he asked what kind of American they all were, there's a hidden message. The guy said he's from Florida. The girl said she's from Missouri and he took a liking to that. Kristen said she's from Colorado. Both Missouri and Colorado are within the Loyalist States. Then there's the reference to Charlottesville. But why was Jesse about to kill the man? Because the man (Joel) is Hispanic, just as Jesse was so easily able to kill to the Asians for being Asian. So in all actuality, Jesse's character represents the extremist element hiding within the States. Ultimately, if there were to be a Civil War 2, the Jesse types will do the same thing Mao Zedong did after WW2. When China was weak after the war, Mao loyalist who held back during the war took it as their opportunity to seize power, which is why China is the way it is today and the people who were in power prior and during WW2 were ran off to Taiwan.

Loved it. My only problem was when 1 character did something so out of character near the end. They just sort of stood there in the moment when it was ill advised. Other than that it was awesome. For me it was about how fast humanity gets tossed in war. The gunfire reminded me of Heat with the loudness of them.

  • @Corvetjoe1
    @Corvetjoe1 Місяць тому +4

Thanks for your point of view.
I thought it was brilliant. It reminds me of a realistic Christopher Nolan movie with hints of an Apocalypse Now style vibe. The music took me to the post Vietnam era.
Many wanted to know the cause of the war but the context of the war is not important. Most 21st century Americans (except the naive) know how this could happen.
Overall, this movie was an essay warning us (Americans) to not let our politicians lead us in this direction because…, in a war everyone loses.
I believe some of the negative criticism comes from many who have not experienced real wars/conflicts in their homeland or those who never served in the military or likely have no experience in war planning or combat because their reviews are all based on modern action movies and dramas that they grew up watching instead of being actually deployed to a poor, ravaged foreign country and being looked at with great vitriol, threatened and/or shot at just because they’re an American.
Simply put, people are scared. We’re living in a modern society where the powers that be have created a fear based existence and I don’t see this changing for a long, long time.
My perspective comes from someone who grew up in the inner city, served over 20 years in the military and 13 years as a street cop. I, like others have been used around the world to satisfy the goals of the empire and have come full circle to believe that as a result of our historical global expeditions and campaigns, we’ll eventually experience similar pains in our homeland someday and I’m not happy about that, but I am a realist who knows enough to prepare for difficult times ahead. So, I see the movie as a sort of documentary whose goal is to open our eyes to a reality that many Americans still deny. The small town depicted in the movie hints at parts of this reality.
Many people may not think that similar events depicted in the film could ever happen but think of this, the U.S. is structured like a large version of Europe with states that mimic individual countries held together by the state’s promise to uphold the Constitution in which the mentalities of 21st century political leaders and citizens have clearly concluded, is just an old piece of paper. This format once proved that a massive civil war could and did occur and often history repeats itself, whether people want to believe it or not.
Sure it’s just a movie, but it’s a serious one and there is a major message in it for us which is, war is truly hell and it’s not something that we should glorify nor something that we should ever hope occurs in our communities.
Critics should stop trying to analyze this film like they’re watching some make believe superhero movie, an Oscar contender’s review or some political circus commentary akin to the events of the 2020 election.
I suggest we watch it like we’re analyzing potential future “real world” events because the premise of this movie might be much closer than some of the many naive Americans think.
From a military (not militia or political) perspective, often wartime strategic alliances form strategic partnerships which are not necessarily based ideological similarities. States like Texas and California both are very large populations (30-40 million residents), have massive police and national guard forces and GNP’s that are comparable or larger than some of the current top ten percent of wealthiest countries on the globe. Texas was once its own republic and has governed that way since. An alliance of these to states and perhaps a third one of similar status and structure would be a major problem for DC politicians.
Given today’s times, we need to hope for the best but only those who can’t see or hear won’t prepare for the worst. Most Empires haven’t lasted more the 500 years throughout history so, I think it’s very important for people to accept their possible future or that of their children, grandchildren or great grandchildren because we are definitely heading for a major change down the path of U.S. history. This fate is even foretold in the book of Revelation and in greater, specific detail in the “extra-biblical” text of 2nd Edras.
Time and experience has proven the old Mark Twain quote that, “truth is stranger than fiction”
A future cult classic movie for sure but who knows what generations will be here to remember it.

I am under the same impression. We all know why the civil war started (too many opinions, too many groups with power growing, too much change at one point) and now we see the result: the fracturing of America which ends in a civil war. The why doesn’t need to be explained. Now you just have to sit back and watch. We know it’s going to be bad. The real question is this: how bad is it going to get?

I went to see it and it wasn't what I was expecting. The gun shots in the theatre were so loud and real I thought someone was shooting at me at least 3 times and I jumped to the ceiling. I was terrified. It was dramatizing. Especially that scene with that ditch and asking all of them where they were from. Now the positive is I did like the POV of this huge event coming from a journalist or this group of journalists. It was breathtaking scenes and the one journalist screaming but his screams were silent but you could hear the military in the background made me cry. How it ended and then to credits I said out loud a particular curse word. It was a lot. The last thing I'm gonna say is this movie will probably win loads of awards at the end of the year. Think twice before seeing it. Even though I was part dramatized but part impressed I wouldn't watch it again. If you can handle it though watch it once.

This movie lacked exposition and feel like it should have.
I wish the film explored more of the
Florida Alliance and the more Neutral states in northwest.

I came away feeling the same as Struggle. I saw this movie last Monday night in IMAX. I get the movie is apolital but I just think the audience should be let in on what's going on or at least what started it. I could easily view this, with the vague info we got, as the President wanted to become a dictator (3rd term mentioned) and dismantled the federal gov't (FBI mentioned) as we know it and three of the richest states (Cali, Texas and Florida) in the union said nah son. We have to fight this. Inform your audience. This movie was false advertisement plain and simple. The trailers that they played said one thing and the movie played out differently.

@@thestarseeker8196 Seeing a war thru journalist's eyes was not what the movie trailers portrayed. Marvel's Civil War movie was way better than this. At least the audience knew what was being fought...lol. I just feel he copped out. Maybe because he's not an American, he didn't understand how meaningful the word civil war is to a majority of us. Should have called the movie War Journalism or something.

IMHO, the theme of the movie was how war, especially this kind of civil war, destroys the soul of everyone involved - even those observing and reporting on it. Everyone in the movie who showed compassion wound up dead - and everyone else turned into emotionless monsters.

If they were to go that deep, then this would have been made into a TV series. To put it all in one movie, it would have been way too long or squished together, detracting from it. Then people would complain about it being too compressed.

    • @GREEDO-dp9br
      @GREEDO-dp9br Місяць тому

The poit of being vague was to not justify any political ideology, in the end every thing was chaotic and many "soldiers" portrayed in the movie didnt even know why where they fighting for. Some of them just took advantage of the country situation tu justify any kind of atrocious things. In the end The movie tell us that in a civil war nobody wins, and everybody loses their humanity.

I give it an 8.5/10. The urban combat scenes were decently good. The horrors of war coming to a 1st world country is tense and disturbing to imagine.
I just wish it was a bit longer and the ending wasn’t so…abrupt. A post credit scene on what happens to the states now or where the journalists will go from here would have been nice. Maybe that’s just me.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t mind watching it again.

That’s exactly why they didn’t. No point. At the end of a civil war like that, there won’t be a winner. Everyone will lose. They already said at the start of the movie, once they defeat the loyalists they will turn on each other. This movie timeline of America is screwed.
And that can be us. We’re on a knife’s edge to thst

Now I’m intrigued. I might actually see it. I like movies that make you question and wonder and make your own comparisons, but it’s got to be a movie that really kicks you in the ass and engages you to wonder about those questions. As far as journalists are concerned, actual real journalists doing the front line news gathering, the real people, not the political Talking Heads on TV, have to have an intense philosophical ethical commitment to bring what’s really going on to the people. Yes they have to turn off their emotions if they’re in an extreme Type or environment, of reporting, but they wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t believe in it. God knows they’re not making that much money and doing this sometimes at extreme risk to their own lives. I think they are extraordinary people.

I akin people who don't like the movie to people who play Call of Duty when the movie is more along the lines of DayZ. Why? Because the former is flashy, less realistic and a hand-holder. The people who like the former like what I call "filler movies" or "fun movies." These are the types of movies that aren't built to be deep.

It wont even be like that. You have to keep in mind in terms of the military, everyone base is intermingled with people from every state. So the likelihood for military bases aligned with these regions is abysmal. Then you have to factor in the biggest problem with this war: Logistics. There would be instant famine for all the big cities, urban and suburban areas (any area where the people don't own substantial land as a norm), because everyone there is packed like sardines and dependent on smaller states and farms for food.

The Movie Civil War 2024 was horrible for the following reasons. If there was going to be a civil war in this Country it would not be geographically based but based on ideology, right vs left, not CA, TX & FL vs the rest of the Country. The basic premise is not even close. Can you imagine Gavin Newsom and Greg Abbott being allies or Newsom and DeSantis? Next, there was no discussion about what actually caused the civil war to start with? Additonally, it was more about the reporters and very little about the civil war itself. Also, in the final scenes the President would have been ushered into the Bunker in the White House or taken to Air Force One and flown to a secure location. The ending was entirely contrived and unrealistic. This movie is a waste of money and a major rip-off of anyone who watches it. It is clear the producer of this film is a typical Hollywood type that lives in a fantasy world and no knowledge whatsoever of what is going on in this Country and what would really happen in an actual civil war.

I loved the movie, but I understand why it wasn't for many. Many were expecting the civil war to be the prime story when in reality it was simply a Backdrop. Garland said it himself in many interviews that this movie is more of a love letter to journalists--REAL journalists that go to hell often to expose what's going on the world but are often unheard or not trusted due to companies, politicians and etc interfering.
Kristen's character even says in the movie that she did this job originally to warn the world of what's going on so we could stop something like that from ever happening here. No wonder she's so cold in this movie
