  • West Point Organist Craig Williams plays the National Hymn for Sunday service on the Fourth of July. This serves as a showcase for the organ's solo reeds - The Trompette-en-Chamade and Tuba Sonora. The texts "God of Our Fathers" and "God of the Ages" are most commonly sung to this tune.

Thanks for that hymn! My organ teacher and myself had just finished tuning an organ and he felt it was too small for the church. He went to find a brother so we would get paid. The sanctuary of the sanctuary is over 200, because it is 200 feet from the back of the sanctuary to the steps that lead up to the alter. My organ teacher was standing at the front of the sanctuary when I started playing God of Our Fathers. He came up to the organ loft/balcony when I finished playing and said "The organ is louder than I thought!" LOL Thanks for the piece and bringing back old memories! Your playing means so much to me!

The improv on the last chorus is earth shaking!!The 16 and 32 footers in the pedal score made this a GRAND SLAM!! Thank You...

God Of Our Fathers and America The Beautiful were declared our National Hymns by act of Congress and dually signed by President Ronald Regan in 1987. The Stars and Stripes Forever was made our National March in the same declaration. The historic pipe organ of The West Point Military Academy Chapel was built in 1921 by the M.P Moeller Organ Company of Hagerstown,Maryland and was rebuilt and expanded in 1952 by Moeller and was later cleaned, overhauled, and expanded once again in 1979. The final expansion project was also by Moeller Organ Company as the previous two expansions had been and was completed in 1988. The organ houses an impressive 23,511 pipes divided into 368 ranks with a total number of 464 speaking stops. It is currently the 4th largest organ in the world and the second largest completely playable organ. It is truly a great and unique organ for sure.

Thank you for listening. Most of your information is correct. A couple of points - the organ was built in 1911 and expanded by Moeller in 1940 (Whitelegg, tonal director). Expansions by Gress-Miles (building the Dutch Great and German Great and Positive divisions) were in 1970 and 1974, respectively. Unfortunately, we are not "completely playable" at this time, with some lightning strike damage and other repairs and renovations being initiated over the last 15 years. Presently, we are at about 65% playability.

Beautifully done. It was probably the microphone placement, but the Trompette-en-Chamade seemed to get lost in the volume of the other manual.

Thank you. The Chamade is almost 200 feet from the console, so the best balance is in the crossing of the chapel. Meanwhile, the cadets who sit in the back hear the Chamade above everything else!

This was God of Our Fathers. Took me a second because I have not heard it on a pipe organ before. It’s certainly much more majestic than the piano.

It is very fitting for the West Point Cadet Chapel. This is frequently played at class reunion memorial services.

That was majestic and soooooooooooo stately Mr. Williams, BRAVO!! THAT made me subscribe lol. I don't remember at all the stoplist and wondered if you might be able to provide a link to the stoplist in the description, that would be most appreciated indeed! Be well and be safe.

Bravo!!! Do you have your improvisations published or available?

Not yet. I may see if some might be published. Publishing hymn arrangements can be difficult - you would be amazed at the number of Copyright Claims I have on UA-cam, even though these are my own arrangements! :-) Some, like this one, I haven't even written down.
