My grandfather served four tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He would retrieve wounded and fallen soldiers from the battle fields front lines. Life expectancy for that task was only fifteen minutes and yet he served four tours. God rest my hero in the mansions of the Lord.
so many fine who dedicated so much I served throughout the bloodiest years of Vietnam as a Navy line officer and my father, a 30yr USN/MSC served as an advisor for 8 more in I Corps. Vietnam claimed him almost 10 years to the day Saigon fell. We are a blessed nation for having had such but sadly so many have discarded the price paid to preserve what our founding fathers envisioned for our nation

Just lost my best friend tonight in a remote Afghanistan valley, far away from his family and me, his best friend. Only song that reminds me that he's being shown his very own mansion, in the many mansions of the our Lord. Love you Brother.
I lost my son to the Afghanistan war. Many question the reasons for being there. Some see it necessary. Weather you agree or not. No matter what Campaign all of our Troopers fought in.. This song is a tribute to sons, daughters, Brothers, and Sisters, fathers. to them that made the ultimate sacrifice. They made it to protect the ones they loved back home, a strong faith and belief in this country, as well as there Brothers on there flanks.. Never forget them. As a former Marine who served in another theater. This song is about Honor. To My fallen solider PFC Dana Michael Rook 101st Airborne.. Nov. 4 1990 - April 22 2014....My Broken Heart Aches without you, My Hero, My Teacher, My Best Friend, Your very proud Father...I Love You..
We know JESUS CHRIST is LORD of Lords and will soon gather His Elect-----!!My daddy was a 24 yr old sargeant in the 4th Armored Division. 1916-1962.Well done good and faithful servant.
sniff sniff My ancestors came here in 1628 George and Samuel Sellers with William Penn and established Darby, Pennsylvania. A long line of my ancestors were involved in building our great nation long before, during, and after Independence. We must guard this precious gift The United States of America. Thank you to those that did and still do. We are indebted to your selflessness. A humbled citizen.
Glenda, Wm Penn wasn't born until 14 October 1644 and didn't receive the grant form King Charles II until 1681. Perhaps you meant 1682? My ancestors came with the Penn Quaker migration in 1689.
Both mom and dad served in Army Field hospitals in WWII. A buzz bomb killed all three of my father’s friends one night while dad was wounded but survived. Now reunited with them in those Mansions of the Lord, we pray for all those that serve in the armed forces of the USA Today. Their personal commitment and leadership are so appreciated by grateful patriots at home. We will never forget the ultimate sacrifices made by our men and women of all creeds and colors in the quest for freedom across the globe. Blessed be the memory of those that gave the last full measure for freedom…
Rest in peace to my Uncle Bob, Robert Henry Brown Jr., USN, Vietnam veteran, and Pop-Pop Brown, Robert Henry Brown Sr., USA, survivor of Anzio. Thank you both for allowing me to be born free.
Memorial Day 2018......the true heros never made it home.......only the dead have seen the end of war......may they at last find peace in the mansions of the Lord
This video is very emotional to me. As a 22 year Army Veteran, I always think of the young men and women who served their country and did not make it back home. We will never forget your ultimate sacrifice and will live everyday to the fullest in your honor.
I'm British and served - often alongside my American friends. We served without anyone watching - but that was the life we chose - to the fallen the glory - for those that remain the quiet pride of knowing we gave. To the mansions where we meet again my friends ...
I was an Army singer in the Viet Nam War era, 1969-1973. I was most fortunate to be a member of TUSAC, The U. S. Amry Chorus, at Ft Myer, VA, the home of The Old Guard. What a gift it was to sing during my four years of military duty. I commend the cadets of all the military posts. You are awesome, and this hymn is a fine example of your gifts.
I always thought this had been written in the 19th century. I was amazed to find out it was written for a recent film! The music never fails to give me goosebumps and it makes me weep. Rest in peace, all the brave soldiers who have given their lives in wars from the beginning of time.
In honor of my Uncle, 1Lt Charles W. Rhine, 134 Inf, 35 Div. KIA Dec 6, 1944 and now lies in honored glory in Lorraine American Cemetary, St. Avold, France. Your family and I will never forget you nor will we forget that freedom is not free. Someone paid. You paid with your life and someday I will be able to say thank you for your noble sacrifice when we meet in Paradise. Aunt Edna loved you and talked about you until the day she died. I had to look this up after hearing it in the film "We Were Soldiers". What a moving hymn. It should have won every award there is for music, but the academies snubbed it. What a shame. Great hymns are still being written.
He was not without you, nor his family. I had 5 military brothers, all older then I. The oldest served in Korea @ 17yrs of age, then 2 tours of Vietnam, one tour as a "tunnel rat". You are your friend's Blessing. May you feel Peace, Brotherhood, Love.
I served for my country in Afghanistan and Iraq and I was proud to serve beside the American soldiers. I know Britain and America have their differences, but I don't care. We're allies, no matter what anyone says. R.I.P to our fallen heroes who gave their lives for freedom. Brothers to the End.
God Bless You and Yours! Yes! We stand together! Yes we have differences but regardless we will go together! As Brothers we may fight each other but with any other adversary they will have to take us both on! Proud to Stand with you!
I served and did three tours in Iraq, as a Marine 0311, At my first duty station way back in 82 as a young Boot We had a English Marine who transferred into the United State Marine corp. His last name was Biddle. He became a friend over there in the Philippines, I saw him 10 yrs latter in Iraq, we hugged and yes even cried a little as we had both been through quite a bit. It doesnt matter what country we are from, we are in it together..Yes you are my Brother..Thank you for watching my back!
@ angry... Perhaps our governments have some political differences, but they are of little or no concern to those of us who wore the uniform. Damned right we're Allies. Brits and Yanks have been shoulder to shoulder in one way or another since WW1. I had the pleasure and honor to be aboard the HMS Amazon when it visited the U.S. in the early 90s. I still have a miniature ships crest I was presented. And some of us remember and were quite moved by the honors and memorials England rendered to America immediately after 9/11. We're one people separated by a common language. I say that with humor and full affection and respect !
I served in Vietnam as a medivac medic and I never tire of hearing this wonderful song. The West Point Cadets probably do it better than any other ensemble I've heard. In my mind it sums up best what sacrifices are made by those who serve. I am proud to have served, just as my dad did in WW II and my grandfather in WW I, but I'm equally happy neither of my son's had to go through such an experience. May the good Lord bless every man and woman who ever wore the uniform, and keep in his care all those who made the supreme sacrifice. Thanks to whoever posted this rendition. DocBVN71
Gary Bosco....gratitude is not lost on some of us....both my grandfathers served in the Pacific during WW2, one as a Sea Bee on Kwajalein Atoll, the other with the 3rd Marine Division and earned the Silver Star for heroism during the amphibious landings at Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville November 3rd, 1943. My own father during Vietnam aboard the missile frigate USS Coontz and my mother’s brother in the 7th Air Cav. As the only male to have not served because out of school I wasn’t even 100 pounds, even today at 54 I’m barely 110. I was turned down by every branch because of my small size and thru the years it wasn’t always easy to take...it’s still my life’s biggest regret, it always embarrassed me at family gatherings to have to face them. They all said it isn’t my fault I was so small, still didn’t make me feel any better.....but to all who did serve this country....more than anyone will ever know, you all have my gratitude...thank you....🇺🇸...
Just to let you know you have no reason to feel sad or embarrassed. You attempted to serve. When so many others did everything they could to avoid service you tried. I feel sure the other members of your family feel as I do.
I cry every time I here this song. Beautiful song touched my heart for all the men I served with and friends I lost in Vietnam. I play this song everyday. I served in the Navy but I have to say the Cadet Glee Club of West Point were outstanding in this video.Thank you all and the directer for a great video. May God watch over you as you defend our country, and Thank you for your servie. Frenchy USN.
I served in Afghanistan as a trauma nurse, honoring those who perished and were wounded defending this great nation. That includes my uncle, PVT Willard Coulter, CO B, 2nd BN, 164th Regiment, AMERICAL Division. He was KIA on Guadalcanal on November 25, 1942. May God hold them close in His arms.
From one of many grateful, unworthy citizens, to those valiant souls who safeguard our freedoms, some with their last ounce of measure, thank you and God Bless. To those who served with honor, duty, and sacrifice in the jungles of Vietnam, WELCOME HOME.
Notice the unity and diversity in our ranks. That is the strength of our nation. Don't forget it. Country and constitution over party. That is a United States of America worth defending.
I have been playing the music of the Glee Club for many years, in my vehicle as I drive for business, this is one of my favorites, I have always held it an honor to be able to contribute to the AOG of the finest institution in America!
Gosh, I could hardly type my message for weeping. Some songs are truly inspired and this one especially. Those in the military or families who have lost loved ones in battle understand all too well the meaning in the words of loss and healing in this gorgeous song.
I'm listening today while thinking of Mickey Rooney who just passed. He was part of that generation of Hollywood stars who supported the American force during WWII, the Korean conflict, the Vietnam conflict, and the wars in the Middle East.He was a man of deep faith. God bless him.
Yes I am sad and don't know why Jesus said that when he dead's there will be wars will happen till I return on earth and we are in danger now of war with North Kreana
For all those who are too gentle to live among wolves ... all those that faced horrors untold and whose bodies came home (or not) but their souls were forever scarred ... so many of them died years later, but never really came home, strafed as they were by the atrocity that IS war ... Charlie Baumgardner ... Art Jeffray ... so many, many more gentle souls ... you will never be forgotten. May God hold you so gently in His Great Heart!
This beautiful song always brings to memory the men in my family who went to war, Dad in Guadalcanal, uncle KIA over Japan, uncle in Korea and a cousin in Vietnam. They've all passed on where beloved soldiers go. This song honors them all. Pride, tears. God bless all those who serve.
....God bless the 70 nations, which are now 209 nations....and all the Sons and Daughters of Heaven.......where were you when I laid the foundations of the world.....and the Sons of glory sang, and the Sons and Daughters of Heaven shouted in glory....Job 38: 4-7........gh
SALUTE THOUS FALLING AMERICAN BOYS, WITH TEARING EYES. SAY...WE LIVING AMERICAN OWED YOU ALL SO MUCH.WITH TENDER HEART. & WIPE TEAR.GOD BLESS AMERICA THAT WE BELONG...
Unbelievably beautiful song! May we always remember the sacrifices made to keep us all safe and free. I'm surprised I hadn't remembered hearing it before.
Tear-jerking, chilling memorial to fallen men and women who gave their all for their faith in Christ and also those in uniform who sacrificed the same.
A lot of noise is made these days about identifying the "Best and Brightest" of our country, those students who are culled for the elite colleges of the nation. The best we have to offer, though, has already been found, but not necessarily in the halls of academia. They are instead serving in the United States military forces around the world and in dangerous war zones where most of us fear to tread. It has always been thus, and it is in our best interests that it always shall be. Thank you for this moving tribute to them.
Mike never forgive, never forget the idiots in DC. Johnson and McNamara are criminals, especially McNamara with that insane policy of using lower intellect men for ""simple" jobs in our beautiful Army. Those 2 clowns almost destroyed the US Army. Thank God we survived. Unfortunately I was not allowed to serve. In 1973 I went to sign up. I was refused service because I had a set of malformed kidneys and had had one surgically removed. I will always regret that failing. My thanks to all who served in my stead.
I never served myself, and probably wouldn't have been allowed to due to severe mental health issues as a teen and adult. But my father served for 20 years, and I have a ton of respect for those who have served and are currently serving. May God bless each and every one of you, and may God watch over those who are currently on the front lines around the world. And on a more personal note, thank you for your service.
Glad I stumbled across this video. I cried like a child when I heard this at the end of the movie. I have heard it 100 times since and still can't get through it. May we all remember those that "have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."
Being a soldier and showing true bravery has been and still is my dream for the future. This song just keeps compelling me to pursue my dream even further. I am no singer, though I am a somewhat decent saxophone player. But if I had the honor to sing with them, let alone be a part of West Point (or any military school) it would be like an answer to my prayers. To all who read this, have a safe day, and God bless you all.
Being a member of a male voice choir in the UK, I was pleased to be told we will be learning and performing this hymn. So I thought it would be a great idea to find a version on UA-cam to practice with (being second bass). That's where it all went wrong. I am so moved and choked up by the presentation of this wonderful piece, sung here so beautifully, with the images, the feelings and what it all means, that I simply cannot get all the way through the whole song. I'll just have to thing of something else bland and boring while I'm singing it.
We met a West Point Graduate in our church in Florence Oregon several years ago. His name was John Burton Stone. He and my husband used to sing next to each other in church. We are sure John was not a member of your choir:) Both my husband and John could not carry a note, but they could sure sing and were both in SEA at the same time. Thank you for this. It is beautiful.
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. - John 14
I was raised in a Protestant Christian household, and have since lost my faith; I am not against religion, but I feel I am one of those that shan't be blessed with the gift of faith. That being said however, this song is one of maybe two that brings me close to how I felt when I had my faith, and the song brings me to tears every time I hear it; while I myself do not believe anymore and am willing to answer for this should I find myself before God, I sincerely hope that someone is up there looking out for all of the world's men and women in uniform and hope that whomever you believe in, or lacking a belief yourself, I wish you all a blessed day
there is not a "gift of faith" but rather Rom.10 says "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Listen to God, not to others. Believe God thru His Son Jesus who established His church. Many churches claim to do this but most are lacking. Matt. 7:21-22 Jesus says do HIS will. etc. I wish I could say more, reply if you want to talk. Eternity is a long time.
Best sung indoors a capella as in this rendition. What fine young people America still produces notwithstanding those sorry examples we constantly hear about. One is inspired by these disciplined voices and faces. May God protect them as they serve our beloved country.
Semper Fi to all our fallen brothers and sisters. Lost many friends in Iraq and Afghanistan including a few Marines I went to boot with. May their souls rest in peace here on earth and they stand their post until relieved at the gates of Heaven with St. Peter.
Semper fidelis my fellow Marines! I had the honor of serving in Beirut when the Marine barracks was hit! I served all the way through the Persian gulf campaign!iam so Happy to talk to great Patriots! God speed to all! Semper fidelis!once a Marine always a Marine
I had never heard of this song or its history but the LORD brought me to it as He was speaking to my heart today on the rest of abiding in His presence. May His Holy Spirit reveal His heart to those who come seeking and may they be found in Him. Amen.
It's from a Mel Gibson movie - remember him ? The guy from Schenectady whose Dad was a tax cheat who moved his family to Australia to avoid taxes ? Then he went on to prove himself to be an anti-Semite and a wife-beater pig. Reagan's family used it at his funeral to somehow equate The Great Bed Wetter with being "a hero." despite the fact he spent his military time flying a desk in Hollywood. It's all romantic, sentimental horsedroppings wrapped in a flag....written to promote a movie - nothing more.
My eyes well up every time I listen to this song. We are getting ever so close to losing all our freedoms to a tyrannical government. I pray that it wasn't in vain for all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we could be free.
Regardless of your religious beliefs, or lack thereof, you have to admit this is moving TRIBUTE to those Americans who have served and fallen for their country. Sadly, although the country has cleared away much social injustice, the sense of patriotism is perhaps at an all-time low. The military academies represent The best and the brightest patriotic young of America. Let us hope they, and intelligent civilian oversight, can continue to lead the way in providing us the best armed forces in the world. We can only hope that should a future national emergency occur many young will rise to the occasion, as generations before did. Vietnam veteran. Army.
You need to listen to the Morriston Orpheus Choir version of this. The depth of every voice is beyond parrallel. Welsh people were 'born' to sing', it's in our blood and it shows. We as a Welsh nation and a Welsh people have been crafted from poverty, slavery and hardship. When all else fails, we are a community of bretheren and we will always be together no matter what else comes our way. I am sooooo proud to Welsh. xxx
As I read the names of the fallen I can't help but to continue to wipe the tears from my eyes, I have seen many horrors where I fought, for 18 months I tried to keep an open mind. But when you lose a family member all that seems to fall by the wayside. I am proud I served, I carry the scares from that war and when I die and am able to see my son once again then my mission in life will have been completed. To all my brothers and the men under my command I salute each and everyone of you.
The first time I heard it was at the end of "We Were Soldiers." I watched the entire movie without any real reaction until I had heard this hymn. I am a Vietnam Veteran 1966-67 and have friends and warrior brothers in the Wall, but this hymn and the names on the Wall opened the floodgates for me. Every five years we attend our Battalion's Reunion at the Wall in DC. Seeing their names, remembering their faces and recalling their laughter is very moving, but listening to this Hymn drives the nail home. God Bless All Who Fight For This Great Country of Ours No Matter What War or Year!

It's memorial day 2019. This is the first time I've ever heard this song. It's very powerful. God bless all who have served.
I'm listening in memory of my friend, classmate, teammate, and good guy, Prentice Dale LeClair.
R.I.P all fallen angels. No matter what age or war or branch or era, we thank you.
Chokes me up every time I hear it.
Jim Porter
We serve a higher cause. We rest in Peace and stand our watch. God Bless this great nation an its people

Yes I am sad and don't know why Jesus said that when he dead's there will be wars will happen till I return on earth and we are in danger now of war with North Kreana
The biggest disgust of my life is not being born in that Great Country that is the United States of North America. I'm brazilian. Unfortunately.
St Paul's London sings star banner
May God bless your friend, Joseph. Thinking of them as I hear this hymn.
Simply Beautiful. Thank you Randall Wallace.
respect from England , rest in peace

This is such a powerful hymn, I have seen grown men cry trying to sing this piece.
What a moving tribute to those fallen for the price of freedom.
This brings me to tears. US Marine 1963-1967. Semper fi.
Tears of honor to those before and after me. Let freedoms light shine from each one. The night is not dark any more with their light above us.
God bless America.
....God bless the 70 nations, which are now 209 nations....and all the Sons and Daughters of Heaven.......where were you when I laid the foundations of the world.....and the Sons of glory sang, and the Sons and Daughters of Heaven shouted in glory....Job 38: 4-7........gh
SALUTE THOUS FALLING AMERICAN BOYS, WITH TEARING EYES. SAY...WE LIVING AMERICAN OWED YOU ALL SO MUCH.WITH TENDER HEART. & WIPE TEAR.GOD BLESS AMERICA THAT WE BELONG...
As I listen to these words the tears are streaming down my face. Beautiful song.
Rest in eternal peace Pa, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Served, Korean War, 1928-2003, I miss you still.
I love these kids !
the world needs to remember these brave americans who gave their lives for them
Unbelievably beautiful song! May we always remember the sacrifices made to keep us all safe and free. I'm surprised I hadn't remembered hearing it before.
I am so sorry. May he finally find peace and I will say a prayer for him and his family
Tear-jerking, chilling memorial to fallen men and women who gave their all for their faith in Christ and also those in uniform who sacrificed the same.
I do not understand how there could even be one dislike for this song. This song goes straight to the heart on any person who has served.
Thank you for your response. May God bless and keep you and yours safe from Evil.
God rest your soul Mr. President
A few years ago, I asked my pastor, and was allowed to share this video in church before Memorial Day. Beautiful tribute.
R.I.P. Dr. James T. Cooper (Col. USAF Retired). November 22, 2013.
Rest in peace with all the Saints among the Mansions of the Lord.
Really inspiring hymn. Never heard it before. Bryan, USNA '88
Thank you for your service!
Glad I stumbled across this video. I cried like a child when I heard this at the end of the movie. I have heard it 100 times since and still can't get through it. May we all remember those that "have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."
Glorious. Always enjoyed ronan Tynan singing this one. Now have a new favorite.
THIS IS GORGEOUS, REMINDS ME OF THE SOUND OF THE MORMON TABERNACLE CHOIR. GOD BLESS AMERICA... ( RESPECT FROM ENGLAND. )
I cannot tell you how many times I have played this.....it is my Honor.
God bless our troops - every one of them, past and present.
God bless America
Even Confederate soldiers. They were serving their cause too.
So beautiful and inspiring. Thank you to all who serve!
I love to play this piece as an organ solo, and each time I do, I am drawn to tears. It is so beautiful.
May His
Holy Spirit reveal His heart to those who come seeking and may they be found in Him.
WOW they sound INCREDIBLE!
Thank you very much. That means so much to me and my family. Peace.
Army.
It's wonderful to see these beautiful young people perform this masterpiece. I am moved by the beauty of the performance.
Very impressive --noticed young woman-- front row 1st from the left. Army Commendation medal!! already a veteran
+Bob Hazel I know what you mean, sir. An Army Commendation medal is an important achievement!
I am sooooo proud to Welsh. xxx
Crap...this gives me goosebumps all over my body, what a choir!, and what voices honoring soldiers dead and alive!. Amazing....
