I've never used Protools, but I've used almost every other DAW around and Reaper is hands down the best for me. I've heard so many Protools users complain about not having features that other DAWs have had for years. Now y'all have to be paying $1000+ per year for protools and that's bonkers. I get it though. When you learn one thing it's hard to move to something else and learn a whole new way of doing things.

Ill switch to pro tools once it becomes essential for what im trying to do
I’ve been at it since the 80’s. I’ve tried Pro Tools, Fl, Cubase/Nuendo, Cakewalk, Studio One, Logic, Luna… I settled on Nuendo. I haven’t found a more balanced, practical, or easier professional tool.
Same here. Since the digi001 days. Since Avid went to sub only I transitioned all my projects to Studio One 5 and couldn't be happier. Only took a few days with Studio One and my workflow is much quicker than Pro Tools. So many tasks are much quicker with Studio One. Should have switched sooner. Will never go back. In Studio One dragging and dropping a plugin from the list allows me to just get on with the project. With Pro Tools I was spending too much time with drop down menus looking for plugins and other tasks. As much as I like Pro Tools it just hasn't progressed to the standards of other DAW's. And for Avid to make it sub only (and overpriced at that) it puts the last nail in the coffin.
Is Cubase the first DAW? In 1992, Steinberg released Cubase Audio Mac, a computer-based digital audio recorder for the Mac that, like the Opcode products, also utilized Digidesign hardware. This was the first DAW to incorporate audio, MIDI, and scoring (music notation).May 1, 2019

I don't know how anyone can even look at that daw for longer than a few seconds. It's like watching paint dry. Pro tools editing is by far the fastest compared to other Daw's. I've been a user of Pro Tools since PT6. I still have PT12 installed on my system, and I do miss the quickness to be able to edit fluidly...but I cant stand plugins not being compatible with PT 12(the same plugins come up in Reason12😁), PT has more frequent crashing, not being able to use multiple screens for mix and edit windows, especially if screens are different sizes...its a hassle😩. With sounding designing, creating complex patches utilizing multiple synths and effects processing and saving that patch as one sound is nearly impossible in Pro Tools😠. To sum it up, I've settled with not being able to edit as fast and the lack of fade curves 😩and am sticking to Reason 12 as my weapon of choice for recording, mixing, producing and sound designing.
