Funniest part is that Kotaku now "blacklisted" Penny Arcade from featuring on their website because they dared to make fun of them over this. And they don't even see the irony.
And if it makes them happy! It really is pretty much that simple... all the complications come from other stuff, and from people who overcomplicate things as a means of mood parasitism.
I was pleasantly surprised you outed yourself so casually (In an ep about casual inclusion i suppose I shouldnt have been) but as a non-straight non-monogamous individual myself I was quite happy to hear it covered in a positive light.
I've never understood the "here's a tv that looks like an apple" thing you got going on there Jim. It only makes me want a tv that looks like an apple.
+Bishop Havel I also don't understand why he sometimes slices in some douch saying life is good when you're a ninja. Ok? What does that have to do with the video? Fuck off, ninja man, whoever you are. Stop putting this guy's pointless clip in videos.
I can see why Bethesda blacklisted Kotaku. The Fallout 4 leak happened way before the game was announced and they even had to change the codename of the game because of Kotaku. They even spoiled the opening speech and some crucial facts about the protagonist. Bethesda was trying hard to keep the game secret and suprise the fans, and Kotaku nearly ruined that. It is more harmful to the developers and Kotaku should have seen the blacklist coming. You don't shit on someones bussiness and then expect him to work with you. It just doesn't happen that way...
+MrEdcar007 Yes, absolutely, we should have a games media wholly tied to the industry it's reported on. None of that independent journalism waffle. Like, Kotaku's a bad rag alot of the time but the idea that we should be fine with the expected reaction of triple A companies trying to punish games journalists for doing games journalism is kinda bad. Neither Kotaku or the gaming public have a duty to keep Fallout leaks from happening and honestly Bethesda pulling this because they messed up is kinda terrible.
+Albino Bunny Yes, they dont have the duty to correct their mistakes, but they also dont have to profit from them. When Kotaku puts their watermark on the leaked documents of a game that wasnt going to be announced 2 years after the leak and then spoil certain plot points, then thats not the kind of gaming journalism that I would support. They got what they deserved.
+Albino Bunny "Neither Kotaku or the gaming public have a duty to keep Fallout leaks from happening and honestly Bethesda pulling this because they messed up is kinda terrible." I don't agree that it's terrible. If it had been a rumor that fallout 4 was in development, that's fine. If it's a rumor that fallout 4 will be in boston? that's fine. If it's a straight up leaked script for the game. That's too far. Now whilst i agree that Kotaku has no duty to keep Bethesda's leaks under wraps. Bethesda also has no duty to provide them with special treatment for being press. If this had been for a bad review or something similarly petty i'd agree that Bethesda was at fault. Straight up revealing the game's script 2 years before the game? Bethesda has the right to blacklist them here and not be morally awfull.
+Alexander Kamensky It doesn't matter if they agreed or not. What they did was harmful for the company and their plans they had for their project. You dont ruin someones plan for their work so you can make a profit, and then expect them to give you invitations to events and free games. Get real.
The Stoned Videogame Nerd I missed where he said that. At the beginning he just says he's "not straight"...which is also my orientation..."notstraight". That's different than "gay", which is "exclusive (nearly) homosexuality".
I can't imagine why Bethesda would want to blacklist Kotaku. They have a tendency to leak shit and are also extreme clickbait. Also I know they blacklist devs for "wrongthink" as well so it's really rich that they're complaining about being blacklisted.
+traditionalfire I dont know. I do not think a Game journalism blog that is linked to Gawker Media, like Kotaku, is exactly a good source of information anyways.
+traditionalfire Well it's name is fucking "KOTAKU in action." Doesn't mean it's not a swarming pool of all the worst kinds of GGing individuals, but you get the picture.
I've seen a lot of the Jimquisition in my tenure as a Jim Sterling fan, but I must say Jim, that was the most fantastic and most fabulous introduction I've ever seen for any of your videos. Bravo
Love that glitch in fallout 4 where using ironsights teleports you several metres in a random direction. Really shows off that high budget polish that bethesda wanted to keep under wraps.
"There has to be enough sterling to go around...its at this point you can make a fat joke and say well there is plenty of sterling to go around we can see it." Its nice to see someone poke fun at themselves once in a while. I love that you have fun with what you do. Thank god for you Jim. You make my day at work more enjoyable.
Leaks don't happen because journalists want it - leaks happen when someone from dev side says something they were supposed to keep secret. Blacklisting as described in this video is punishing the followers instead of dealing with the source of the problem.
+RothSchatten I don't like their way of reporting, I think they're clickbait bullshit, but saying Kotaku deserves this just because they did their job is childish. People let their opinion of Kotaku influence their judgement of the situation. Reporting about leaks is the job of the Kotaku staff. It's like people don't get journalism. You report about news. Leaks are the hottest news in games media, above all else. Those fuckers who now say that Kotaku deserves it were probably among the first to get hyped about Fallout 4 because they heard about the leaks from Kotaku.
Wether you like it or not, reporting leaks IS a part of journalism. Actually quite an important one. Ethically if falls in the same exact region as reporting about whistleblowers.
They did not fuck them over. They reported about information that was given to them or publicly available. They have no moral, contractual or legal binding to not report about it. And yes, any company can cut ties with any media outlet without a reason. But if your reason is being salty you should probably rethink your PR. If they want to take actions about the leak, they should look for the person who leaked the info (who in process probably broke an NDA).
+RothSchatten Dealing with it at the source isn't an option when you have no idea who did the leak. He isn't going to tell you, and neither will the site that happily posts it. You could ask them for it, and they'll just tell you to fuck off. This means that taking it out on the site is the only option left, and the posting site is to blame.
I feel like review giants are becoming less relevant as there's a wealth of thoughtful, entertaining, non-paid-for reviews that actually provide good advice about whether to buy the game on youtube. I haven't cared what IGN thought about anything since I was in high school, personally.
I used to love IGN. Now that I know that they bow to the whims of people who pay them and give them perfect scores, and then give really bad reviews to the ones that don't pay them like with Double Dragon Neon, I stopped reading and watching them. (IGN: "This game sucks because the genre doesn't deserve to exist." Yeah, that fucking happened in the Double Dragon Neon review, though I paraphrased it. A sorely underrated game. People can shut up already about the Too Much Water crap and look at some *real* problems.)
@@MoisesCharles I mean they did that ages ago with pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky. The reviewer didnt like rougelikes and gave it a lower score for having optional extra content over the previous game. Not that their original review was accurate either.
Dear Mr. Sterling I rarely comment on anything on youtube. But praise must must be given where praise is due. Before watching this video I had been looking at several other videos (some on gaming and some not) which were of approximately the same length as this video. I did not finish any of these videos on the reason that they seemed unnecessarily dragged out. They would usually start the video by saying what they were going to talk about and then immediately digress into speaking about something vaguely relevant or not relevant at all for at least 5-7 minutes before touching lightly upon the subject they were supposed to speak of. Now I saw your video in the recommended list and I clicked it. I had been a regular viewer of your show when it was featured on the escapist. So finding your show again on youtube was a joy. The reason for this is that you keep your videos to the point with an intro that is both funny and serves as a quick summary of what theme the rest of the show is going to have. Perhaps more importantly also, you deliver your message with integrity and professionalism instead of with cheap jokes in a poor attempt to keep an audience attention. For this I thank you and hope you keep up the good work. Thank god for you.
+Marquis Forneus Have you seen Kotaku recently? The site is almost just a giant ad, and click-bait articles. Plus the article about them being blacklisted was just whining to a maximum degree, since they had been blacklisted for almost 2 years, and were releasing this now trying to act proud, and like a complete victim at the same time.
I'm gonna miss the shaky lectern. We've had such good times, jimquisition fans and the infamous lectern. Like that one time things fell off it. And that other time....things fell off it. Yeah. RIP Lectern.
I'm just saying. I have two reasons for watching Jim. 1: the nature of the actual journalism part. And 2: his shear sarcasm. Makes me crack up every time I hear it.
Is it bad that I want to buy a Silent Hill pachinko machine just so I can strap homemade explosives to it, shout FucKonami, blow it up, and tweet you the video?
What the comments have taught me... 'Its not unethical if it's done to kotaku, because we don't like them'... yeah because ignoring or praising this is only going to encourage publishers to pull this shit more. Double standards people!
+Leinad44 If that's your perspective, I don't consider it to be that way, It's nothing to do with being ethical but it's certainly petty. It really doesn't matter as Jim pointed out in his video, journalists are supposed to be able to function without any input from companies, that's the basis of investigative journalism (which Kotaku so highily prizes themselves on despite copy pasting from other publications, posting clickbait or just using reddit as a "source". Note: Reddit is not a source if you cannot verify the person posting the information. Citing "reddit" at the end of an article is not citation, It'd be like me putting together an essay for philosophy and in by bibliography simply putting "wikipedia" in it.) Indeed, function without ANY relationship with companies just means that we can be sure you are not under any bias or pressure from them. This is perhaps the best thing that could happen to game journalism as ironic and hypocritical that might seem. The less games journalism has to do with marketing, the better. Besides, it's not as if these games media outlets were interested in discussing ethics anyway going so far as to fire Robert Florence, Geoff Gersmann and twitter piling on Erik Kain. None of them regularly condemn review events, special treatment, season passes or Microtransactions because they are afraid of these blacklists. Which just goes to show how hypocritical they are.
In the case of Prey 2, I have nothing but respect for Kotaku calling out the cowardly Pete "pathological liar" Hines on his BS. I have nothing but respect for the developers at Arkane for revealing to the press with what really happened to Prey 2 (milestone abuse, failed takeover, etc).
They were spot on in this case. Arkane's Prey 2 pitch documents leaked in early 2014. gamerant.com/prey-2-story-setting-leaked/ - I wonder if there will be more leaks when Zenimax reveals their game?
I'm glad you mentioned the pedestal. It's been bothering me so much in your recent videos. Every new video I somewhat expect you just toss it to the side and slide in a new, sturdy podium. And methodically pickup your figures and put them on the new platform. Sometimes this is a dream.
Games Journalism is such a joke, that a fat guy in a nazi outfit ranting on the internet is actually a more reliable source of information than written documents by "professionals". I personally believe that lets plays, game reviewer channels and such things are the main source of information most people on whether or not to buy a game.
Then we get Gamer Gate, who instead of going after game developers and game media they attack women and feminist for daring to question the sexism in video games.
+powervidsful Yahztee isn't serious enough. He critiques and doesn't really cover the stuff Jim does. Although Yahztee does cover game design related stuff in extra punctuation.
I still remember that one episode where he said "If I were the type of man who enjoyed penises, for instance, I might put this dildo in my mouth!" ...And then he's teasing for a bit like he's not really going to do it, but then he does it. XD
Jim, this is my first time checking out your videos (your fallout 4 Poly video and then your "Problems with multiplayer only" video), you made the list of my favorite people on earth.
In the situation of Kotaku getting blacklisted by Bethesda... I can sort of understand that. In general, companies don't like it very much when internal documents like scripts are leaked to the public. What is bullshit of course is getting blacklisted because you write unfavorable things about a game or publisher. It's also laughable that news outlets are so damn scared of this because they can't actually stop you from buying the game to review it or just watching the public presentation at events like E3. Oh nooo you won't give me a 1-1 interview at E3 cause we're blacklisted??? Oh wait pretty much all the info you can talk about was given in the public interview, making those 1-1 interviews pointless...
I'm talking about the large on stage presentations/scripted interviews they do at E3 that are streamed live all over the planet. Nearly all of the time, that is all the info you are getting at that event. Asking anything outside of what was already discussed will almost certainly get you a "We can't talk about that yet".
It's set in Boston! Oh my stars, what a revelation! And a nuked out, brown-and-gray-and-a-bit-of-teal boston at that! Be still my beating heart, such creativity.
+Wulfsmasher Had Kotaku been the ones that stole the script I'd be ok with the blacklist, but all they did was report on it which is what a journalist does. Like all the outlets reporting on the contents of the Snowden leak. They didn't steal it but they reported on it and it's contents.
+OmegaBlue69 yeah no, publishing leaks is pretty shity, to not support a company that did that makes sense, it's quite unprofessional for a site like this to do so.
+Wulfsmasher Kind of feel the same on this, i feel kind of eeeh about it. If it was given to them in some understanding that it was going to be kept silent and they dont and its not because of some "big deal" i feel like they did something they knew the price of
+Wulfsmasher if the 'leak' is something like 'this game has huge issues they don't want you to know about' then its a good thing, but if it is plot related it is just equivalent of telling someone the plot of a book before they get a chance to read it, a dick thing to do
I loved the backlash in that FO4 video because all I could keep asking myself was "HOW DID YOU NOT SEE THE STICKER ON HIS PODIUM?" Like, seriously, it says "We don't discriminate" with a rainbow below it. Has Jim ever struck you as someone who panders to an audience? Nope. So it was pretty obvious he was a part of said group. As for the blacklist issue, it's definitely a scummy practice, but I also don't give a shit if it happened to Kotaku. They don't even count as journalists as much as they do tabloids. They are under specific rules mandating the pushing of content every 6 hours, regardless of it's quality and hire on people notorious for just fanning the flames of, or inciting, outrage of issues that aren't there. Hell, as a joke / social experiment a friend of mine fed them a bullshit story about a woman who learned to drive via Grand Theft Auto 4. And without asking for an interview, or doing any research into his claims, they ran the story (kotaku.com/grand-theft-auto-taught-me-to-drive-503781868 ). Because why not? As someone in the field of games journalism I shudder when anyone references Kotaku in the same sentence as the company I work for.
+OgreSamanosuke Also, I forgot to mention one of the biggest problems with games journalism today, and I won't name anyone, is the petulence between different media outlets. When incidents like the Borderlands 2 leak happened, the blame is not entirely on the publisher for it's backlash. I can't say for sure GI had a part in forcing Gearbox's hand, but I've seen enough other incidents like it that I do have confirmation on the "wronged" media outlet demanding recompense to know it definitely happens, and it's shameful.
Con Cahill Huh? How so? He's only commenting on the slurs leveled at him because of his sexuality. What legitimate criticism are there to be made about what someone else does with their life? He doesn't say his opinions on the game aren't open to debate, he's saying his LIFE isn't open to debate.
OgreSamanosuke Exactly he's circumventing legitimate criticisms by crying wolf about a bunch of trolls. Hmmm I don't know how about praising lazy programming just because he's polyamory? It wasn't an intended feature it's Bethesda being lazy and not wanting to program reactions or good relationship mechanics. The NPC's don't even react if you go fucking around or not no comment what so ever. That sounds a lot like lazy programming to me.
Con Cahill I don't think you know what circumventing means. He's not bypassing criticism of the video, it's not even part of his discussion in this video. Not acknowledging something isn't the same as trying to write it off.
well bullets mostly. but you must be thinking of the bleed damge. its a random legendary weapon with a bleed modifier that can be dropped by a legendary enemy.
Ugh, fucking Gawker. I'll never forgive them for leaking the Hateful 8 script, very nearly depriving us of a Quentin Tarantino movie. Seriously, #FuckGawker needs to exist just as much as #FucKonami, except it should be #FuckGawkerWithALiveAndPrimedNuclearWarhead. I was so hopeful when I heard that The Hulkster was gonna legally powerbomb them into last century. Thing about gaming journalism is that it's an enthusiast press, one that relies heavily on publisher goodwill. No game publisher is under any unassailable obligation to give review code to anyone at all. Should that be the case? Well, that's subjective but personally I think reviewers should be paying for the games so they don't have to lean on publisher goodwill. Bethesda can't blacklist you from walking into EB Games no matter how hard they try. Kotaku isn't in the right here, the old adage "Don't bite the hand that feeds" actually has place in the modern world. Cause when you bite it, you stop getting fed. If I'd have been in Bethesda's shoe's I'd have done the same thing. Did Kotaku genuinely think they'd suffer no reprisal, no retaliation from Bethesda for leaking company secrets? Did they honestly think that Bethesda would keep feeding them review code and press releases, keep inviting them to exclusive events? If they did think that was the case, they kind of asked for a blacklisting. Anyway, this discussion is pointless, because HOLY TERMINOLOGY, BATMAN! SOME GUY JUST PICKED HIS NOSE ON THE TRAIN IN TOKYO, HOLY SHIT GET KOTAKU OUT THERE RIGHT NOW! THIS IS THE HARD HITTING JOURNALISM KOTAKU DOES!
***** The problem with this reasoning is, the enthusiast press will never not be an enthusiast press and publishers will ALWAYS be able to rescind their offers, because they have no obligation to offer them in the first place. The enthusiast press must behave like enthusiasts, who'd have thought? They have no legal protection from being denied review code or press release invitations for a reason. Bethesda is in the right here, Kotaku did something that pissed them off, they simply stopped offering the service that they were under no obligation to give. It's like if I owned a restaurant and kicked a guy out for masturbating while he was sitting at his table, he hadn't given up any money yet so I was under no obligation to give him anything, and he was jerking off in the middle of my restaurant. Same thing here.
Regarding the podium. You need L bracket footing running the full length base for the axis you want to prevent wobble on. If you want to prevent wobble on both horizontal axes of the base you need corner bracket feet. Steel joinery brackets from the hardware store should work for this (they even come with holes in them so all you have to do is screw them on).
Why are people calling you a degenerate now? *Gags remembering 30 seconds of super mutant pounding shop* I uh... Got no... clue? On a serious note, I don't get why people get so pissed off about this kind of shit. Just don't make me see that shop ever again. Please. Oh god.
I love how he just handwaves it "I'm a degenerate? Yeah, um, the pog-fucking might have been a clue. Anything else?" or something like that. Just not giving them the slightest satisfaction for their lame, over-used hate words.^^
My guess is he's not actually blacklisted by Digital Homicide, because as much as they hate him, they also did that astounding hour-long interview thing. If you haven't seen that, oh my god, look it up, Jim has a real-like discussion with a humanized idiot-UA-cam-comment and records it and it's gold.
+Athavan Rajasingham I'm in a similar situation as Kotaku with some places, like Warner Bros. Square Enix *was* in that camp, but lately I've been given reason to believe they might be re-opening their doors.
Yea...I have a hard time calling Kotaku 'journalists', equating 'bad review' blacklistings with 'publishing stolen scripts' blacklisting, and a real hard time taking Kotaku's word about being blacklisted...or their word about anything, really. But if I decide to set aside my qualms, I have to say that if you are a journalist, and are terrified about being blacklisted, then don't be a journalist. If you do something shitty, and are punished for it, then take the punishment in stride (it's the price of being a journalist). Crying about it like a child is at best hypocritical, at worst pathetic and cowardly. A real journalist, regardless of the medium, says what they think is right, and takes the hit on the nose. We would have a lot less respect for Jim if, instead of standing up to Konami, he burst into tears crying that he was blacklisted, and it's not fair. If Kotaku wants to be treated like professionals...maybe they should take a stab at acting professionally.
+Digital Mint No...they were and are in full crying mode, like a child who got the wrong flavor of ice cream. And I won't speak for everyone, but myself, I am not cheering anyone on at all. However, Kokaku are not journalists, and stealing and leaking artistic materials isn't journalism. I have zero sympathy. Your suggestion is that Kokaku should be able to pretend to be journalists when it suits them, and claim to be 'just bloggers' when it suits them. I ain't buying it.
+Digital Mint And seriously...how can you think that '#FukKonami' and Kokaku grovelling and begging to be taken off of an invisible blacklist is the same thing?
I know I keep bringing up Final Fantasy XIII a lot but I wonder if any media outlet were afraid of giving the game a low score at the time of it's release in fears of Square-Enix blacklisting them all.
That might help explain the accolades it got at first. Honestly, that's slightly more comforting, to think it was intimidation and bullying rather than just a bunch of people who review games for a living deciding 'Yeah, this is A+ material mate. Classic game."
+Stephen Mc Devitt Honestly XIII's good reviews always struck me as a mix of hype, graphics, the fact that games reviewers probably had a mandate to play to where fans say the 'good bits' are and that not all reviewers are knowledgable about genres like JRPG's.
+Evnyofdeath Weird. it seems JRPGs get reviewed by JRPG players yet games in the west get reviewed by a variety. For Instance The escapist gave GTA V review to a guy who didn't like senseless violence in video games (so it seemed). yet every time I see JRPG reviews on metacritic it is all JRPG fans and experts (as it should be) Another example of how games journalism and metacritic is broken. You wouldn't want a guy who hates RPGs reviewing TES6.
James Flynn That is true and is something that needs to be addressed. But as I said, from a production standpoint FF13 is a good game. It DID suffer from poor gameplay though.
God, i already hated Randy Pitchford just for being involved in Duke Nukem Forever, Aleins Colonial Marines, Borderlands 2 (dunno about you guys, but i hated it), and the way he not only acts like a teenager hyped up on a bowl of sugar to hype people for his inevitable disaster, but will then disregard customers' dissapointment. After Duke Nukem Forever came out, Randy was in an interview and was asked how he felt about the negative reception, letdown from the hype, and the people who wasted their money on it. He responded with "I'm still proud we *made* it", completely oblivious that he ripped off millions of people Then with Aliens Colonial Marines, when he was interviews for that game and the same questions asked, he replied that "I got to work with the original cast, i wouldnt trade that for anything". *_Again_*, oblivious that his customers are dissapointed, ripped off, and upset.
Negative reception from customers isn't something that you really see devs talk about. I'd also argue that neither of those games are Gearbox's fault, since they were both farmed out to lesser studios approximately five times each. And that's the fault of 2k and Sega, not Gearbox
That DW footage you showed looked like a fun game. I think a great future JQ video would be a Top 10 DW game or styled game would make a fun one to watch. I hope you do this one.
Nioji_ MEMED Right now i'm getting reports from reliable sources that those are, in fact, memes! We are yet to understand what this revelation will bring to humanity, but i can say for sure that this day marks the most important turn in our history!
So this is the first video of yours I have seen. I hear your name all over the internet and Now I Know Why. This was an excellent video. So thoughtful and informative. I'm in man, I'm fucking in. Also thank you for sharing that personal stuff we all know that is not easy.
For the ten-billionth-time: Why the fuck do people still go to/like/bitch about kotaku? I've not been there in 2 years, but somehow I still keep hearing about them all the time. With their track record, it's a wonder why people still give them views.
+Rc “Tattooless Metalhead” Cooper Exactly! Honestly the only ones that are giving them views anymore are the members of the progressive reich. The same collective of crying twentysomethings who have been busy being molested by their college professor's crackpot ideologies as well as those who buy into the whole "victim" complex that see everything as (fill in derogatory buzzword here). They are basically this generation's hippies. In about 10 or 20 years from now people will finally mellow the fuck out and realize they were "fighting the good fight" for absolutely nothing.
+Rc “Tattooless Metalhead” Cooper They use very sensationalist headlines, articles to try and strong arm themselves into the spotlight by appealing to extremists.
I admit I really disliked Poly angle from FO4 video. Not really anything to do with Poly but how exploitative it came off to me. It made this wide brush stroke that said "Any game that allows you to date multiple people is being Pro-Poly". In reality its just lazy game decision that's not putting much thought into the romance. It mainly just "Aw fuck it, you can romance these people, go at it". Sort of like Saints Row 4. You can fuck the character, it didnt really mean anything, just a 5 second scene put in for laughs. It doesn't mean they making some political message, people a advocating for Poly, or even being progressive. It simply them putting in a under developed romance system. FO4 is same way. It not that they are intentionally being progressive, just they couldn't give a fuck to develop romance to the point where it became a serious commitment. I have to admit this is something that been bothering me about The Jimquisition. It something that has me unsubbing off and on. I really dont like how Jim often will take pretty harmless and things that are meant to just be fun and turn them into some progressive political statement. Sure I am a Lib, and progressive. I think everyone should be shown respect and what not but I am not remotely political. I love Jim's pro consumer angle a lot but whenever he becomes political and preachy about progressive stuff I sort of feel alienated.
+Rena Chu I agree. It's laughable to hear that Fallout 4 is somehow socially progressive when in reality Bethesda made it more regressive than Fallout 2 from 1998 (the first game with same-sex marriage). Fallout 4 is the first game from Fallout franchise where you truly can't roleplay a gay person as the main storyline forces opposite sex attraction upon your character. Not to mention removal of gay perks from Fallout: New Vegas (which was created by some of the original Fallout devs) while straight ones are still there to further emphasize what you're supposed to be according to the writers. The fact all romances are bisexual - or to be more precise, "playser-sexual" - and exactly the same for any character regardless of gender doesn't change much here, because it is so evident it was nothing more than an afterthought done with as least effort as possible, just like the fact they're "polyamorous" (or in other words, we didn't bother to record any additional dialogues in such situation, so people, you just have to imagine your character is in polyamorous relationship even though none of their lovers seems to be even aware of the existence of another).
+Neisza Waiting for the mods where I don't even start with a partner, and I'm searching for my stolen dog. Not to give out spoilers, but the entire rest of the plot should remain exactly the same.
+Rena Chu Do you hate Muslims? In Islam its perfectly normal to have multiple wives. I didn't think there would be Islamphobes on the Jimquisition how sad. There is enough hatred against us Muslims already I just don't know Westerners like you keep attacking us.
+Drew Gold Where did I say that? Fallout 4 allows you to be bisexual - apparently with opposite sex preference since you can only take perks LadyKiller and BlackWidow that emphasize attraction of your character towards members of opposite sex, while there are no same-sex versions of those perks in this game. So bisexuals and heterosexuals are represented in this game, but gay players have been excluded, and I find it so sad that you try to use members of one sexual minority against different sexual minority.
I have to side with Bethesda. Kotaku deserved that from a completely neutral party. They got their ad revenue, now they have to deal with the consequences of leaking spoilers. For me this is something akin of leaking a Game of Thrones novel. You can't expect the writer to be cordial with someone after that. It isn't about good or bad reviews it's about fucking with someones IP.
About overkill's apology and Jim's theory on "the silence", I believe that this apology is just overkill trying to get themselves their needed silence, they have lied to us before and with this in mind we should continue our push against overkill to keep them to their word.
The 3 way with 2 super mutants just pounding it was a modern art masterpiece. So good that "modern art masterpiece" is actually able to be used in a way that is positive and not pejorative for the first time ever. Thank God for Jim Sterling. Now you have to somehow say "Dank Meme" in a way that doesn't make me want to throw myself off a building or push the person who says it off. I didn't think anyone could do it, but you may be our only hope.
Mr Jim F**king Sterling, Son.. Thank you so very much for being you and not changing because some people say (I almost said "Think" but realised they don't) you should!
Leaking a script is not like issuing criticism or scooping a coming project. It is destructive to the project. If a media source leaked the script to the coming Star Wars movie, I would expect that they would not get access to early viewings of the movie or interviews from the cast.
This has one of my favourite intros of all time! I'm always amazed to hear what you come up with next
what are you doing here creeps
+Mustach Man101 The right thing. Creeps is doing the *right* thing.
+Jim Sterling This has made me curious. Is there a Jim Sterling creepy pasta out there and if so, is it about pog-f***ing?
+GodOfGibberish not yet, but it will be
+Nenad Grey uh, what the fuck are you trying to say?
Sure, you _say_ there's enough Jim Sterling to go around, but why haven't I gotten some? Huh?
Well, you have to go GET it. You can't expect free delivery.
Funniest part is that Kotaku now "blacklisted" Penny Arcade from featuring on their website because they dared to make fun of them over this. And they don't even see the irony.
As I always say, "as long as you respect others, do whatever you want to do, especially if it makes you happy".
+Yukito Tsukishiro Amen, brother
And if it makes them happy! It really is pretty much that simple... all the complications come from other stuff, and from people who overcomplicate things as a means of mood parasitism.
"Respect" can mean to treat with dignity or to treat with obedience.
"kotaku has kickstarted a bit of a controversy recently" cut the video to just that and it will be relevant forever.
Was bored, checked my subscription feed, new Jimquisition, fuck yes.
I was recently blacklisted by Nintendo of America for being too judgemental of their products on my personal Twitter account. :)
Achievement unlocked my friend, well done 👍
I was pleasantly surprised you outed yourself so casually (In an ep about casual inclusion i suppose I shouldnt have been) but as a non-straight non-monogamous individual myself I was quite happy to hear it covered in a positive light.
I love how Jim responds to people trying to bring him down. He should try for a career in politics. He'd win before the elections even happen
I've never understood the "here's a tv that looks like an apple" thing you got going on there Jim. It only makes me want a tv that looks like an apple.
+Bishop Havel Do you wan a TV that looks like a rock?
Dankbeast Paul Yeah, and I'll use you to power it.
Bishop Havel pls no.
You do realise both dankbeasts have incredible blunt resist, right? (Don't mind the fact that they're skeletons)
+Bishop Havel I also don't understand why he sometimes slices in some douch saying life is good when you're a ninja. Ok? What does that have to do with the video? Fuck off, ninja man, whoever you are. Stop putting this guy's pointless clip in videos.
Those are subliminal bits from Nintendo directs. You'll bite?
+Albino Bunny
"Neither Kotaku or the gaming public have a duty to keep Fallout leaks
from happening and honestly Bethesda pulling this because they messed up
is kinda terrible."
I don't agree that it's terrible.
Dude Blacklisting someone cause they leaked something they never agreed to keep secret is just being silly.
+Alexander Kamensky
It doesn't matter if they agreed or not. What they did was harmful for the company and their plans they had for their project. You dont ruin someones plan for their work so you can make a profit, and then expect them to give you invitations to events and free games.
Get real.
Jim, you wonderful fucking degenerate, I love you.
+traditionalfire GamerGate isn't the only group that thinks Kotaku is complete crap. Also you're the only person that mentioned it.
+ghostfear2011
Don't forget BethSoft is EA.
+traditionalfire I dont know. I do not think a Game journalism blog that is linked to Gawker Media, like Kotaku, is exactly a good source of information anyways.
+traditionalfire Well it's name is fucking "KOTAKU in action."
Doesn't mean it's not a swarming pool of all the worst kinds of GGing individuals, but you get the picture.
This was Ubisoft's last interview with Kotaku: tmi.kotaku.com/ubisoft-refused-to-talk-to-me-about-women-1590289504
"There has to be enough sterling to go around...its at this point you can make a fat joke and say well there is plenty of sterling to go around we can see it."
Its nice to see someone poke fun at themselves once in a while.
+RothSchatten EXACTLY
The Brotherhood Of Steel calls me a degenerate in Fall Out 4.
Dear Mr. Sterling
I rarely comment on anything on youtube.
People are gloating that Kotaku got Blacklisted just because they don't like Kotaku? That sounds very unethical.
Kotaku sounds unethical
Kotaku IS unethical.
+Marquis Forneus No one is entitled to get something for free to help them out.
"Wah, I'm not getting freebies anymore!"
+Marquis Forneus ITS TOTALLY ABOUT ETHICS! ARGH! I AM SO MAD AND I DON"T KNOW WHY!
I'm gonna miss the shaky lectern. We've had such good times, jimquisition fans and the infamous lectern. Like that one time things fell off it. And that other time....things fell off it. Yeah. RIP Lectern.
+Malazan27 It'll probably be around for a while yet. I'm shopping around at the moment, so a replacement will take a while.
When do I get my slice of Sterling?~
I'm just saying. I have two reasons for watching Jim. 1: the nature of the actual journalism part. And 2: his shear sarcasm. Makes me crack up every time I hear it.
Never change, Jim.
Is it bad that I want to buy a Silent Hill pachinko machine just so I can strap homemade explosives to it, shout FucKonami, blow it up, and tweet you the video?
Yes it is bad. However, if you STOLE the pachinko machine, then you would be doing a lovely bit of justice.
now you have your goals straight
+John Ryan I cannot upvote this comment the correct amount of times it deserves
+Nathanael Unger Just do it in a safe place and I'm fine with it.
+Nathanael Unger You da real mvp.
What the comments have taught me... 'Its not unethical if it's done to kotaku, because we don't like them'... yeah because ignoring or praising this is only going to encourage publishers to pull this shit more. Double standards people!
+Leinad44 Yeah ... kind of hard to defend Gamergate on this one.
+Leinad44 The smug reactions on twitter, youtube and reddit were through the roof the day that article was announced.
+Leinad44
If that's your perspective, I don't consider it to be that way, It's nothing to do with being ethical but it's certainly petty.
Citing "reddit" at the end of an article is not citation, It'd be like me putting together an essay for philosophy and in by bibliography simply putting "wikipedia" in it.)
Indeed, function without ANY relationship with companies just means that we can be sure you are not under any bias or pressure from them.
+Clangers Rule Holy long posts batman!
Watch out Batman! They're throwing fish at us!
+MajorPhilGraves Kotaku has like zero journalistic integrity or quality though.
They were spot on in this case. Arkane's Prey 2 pitch documents leaked in early 2014. gamerant.com/prey-2-story-setting-leaked/ - I wonder if there will be more leaks when Zenimax reveals their game?
No one is impressed you respect a shitty company.
I'm glad you mentioned the pedestal. It's been bothering me so much in your recent videos. Every new video I somewhat expect you just toss it to the side and slide in a new, sturdy podium. And methodically pickup your figures and put them on the new platform. Sometimes this is a dream.
This guy is a true genius. Every intro is genius.
Games Journalism is such a joke, that a fat guy in a nazi outfit ranting on the internet is actually a more reliable source of information than written documents by "professionals".
I personally believe that lets plays, game reviewer channels and such things are the main source of information most people on whether or not to buy a game.
+Lucetube GPlusStillSux Hes just big boned. Quite often :D
+razorback0z Don't sweat the fat jokes, Jim certainly doesn't.
... It's why he's fat, after all :/
Fat guy in a Nazi uniform, that sounds like Herman Goering.
+razorback0z There's no such thing as "big boned".
Then we get Gamer Gate, who instead of going after game developers and game media they attack women and feminist for daring to question the sexism in video games.
sorry jim your good but why do I need you when I have my lord yahtzee crowshaw
+powervidsful Didn't realize you were only allowed to watch one video series, but by all means enjoy Yahtzee's vids!
+Jim Sterling Personally my lord and savior is his holiness on high, Jim Fucking Sterling Son.
+powervidsful Yahztee isn't serious enough. He critiques and doesn't really cover the stuff Jim does. Although Yahztee does cover game design related stuff in extra punctuation.
+Jim Sterling I was responding to your thing at the start of the vid sorry for the misunderstanding love your work
+Dennis Estebal sorry my bad I love jim's video I was responding to the bit at the start should have made that clear my fault
.... your being bisexual and polyamorous was shocking? the first was always pretty out in the open, and the latter was at least implied.
+Silv also, "most delectable man in game's media" is not exactly a high bar my good fellow.
I still remember that one episode where he said "If I were the type of man who enjoyed penises, for instance, I might put this dildo in my mouth!" ...And then he's teasing for a bit like he's not really going to do it, but then he does it. XD
man i love your improvised endings. Your a true entertainer.
Jim, this is my first time checking out your videos (your fallout 4 Poly video and then your "Problems with multiplayer only" video), you made the list of my favorite people on earth.
This comment section gives me hope in the Jim Sterling fanbase.
+Timmah73 There's no such thing as a "public interview", unless you're describing someone standing up and yelling information at a crowd.
Oh Jim, I love you so :)
"Anyone who wants a bit, comes and gets a bit."
Now, Jim, don't go making promises you can't keep. ;)
If you're really getting a new podium then that's so very exiting Jim!
And now Gawker is dead
Whe shall thank Hulk Hogan
Blacklisting for bad reviews is wrong, but for leaks.... ehh, I dunno
+Wulfsmasher Same, it's kind of a grey area.
If it was given to them in some understanding that it was going to be kept silent and they dont and its not because of some "big deal" i feel like they did something they knew the price of
+Wulfsmasher if the 'leak' is something like 'this game has huge issues they don't want you to know about' then its a good thing, but if it is plot related it is just equivalent of telling someone the plot of a book before they get a chance to read it, a dick thing to do
I'd probably care if it wasn't Kotaku.
But y'know.
It's Kotaku.
Thanks alot for bringing back the FucKonami news Jim. It's much appreciated!
My world got better knowing I could maybe have a chance with jim sterling. Thank god for him.
I only trust the most comprehensive source for my game coverage.
Nintendo Power!
+Gentlemenhugs
Bites The Dust has an side effect to keep people being killed over and over alive to this day?
+OgreSamanosuke Too me it seems like Jim is just circumventing legitimate criticisms about that video by pandering to some of his audience.
I don't know. I think Polyamory sounds pretty interesting and _should_ be featured more in games, tv shows, etc.
(It's not for me, but still)
This intro is exactly why I love Jim Sterling.
We love you Jim. Keep being you :)
A Big Boss Pachinko machine...?
I'm having such a lust for revenge right now.
+Calvin Infinity NANOMACHINES
+Kelvin Kuang Coulda gone pro if he hadn't joined the Navy
Curious..... What's the perk or weapon mod called in Fallout 4 that reduces enemies health after shooting them? I noticed it in Jim's video. Cheers!
well bullets mostly. but you must be thinking of the bleed damge. its a random legendary weapon with a bleed modifier that can be dropped by a legendary enemy.
Ah, I couldn't find any perks, so yes must be a legendary. Cheers!
Good luck trying to find that bleed legendary.
well I did find a shotgun with an after-burn effect :)
It's called Wounding
***** "The job of the press is to bite all the hands."
Then they go hungry, it's really that simply.
"this is a TV that looks like an apple" I don't think I'll ever tire of this. :)
I assumed the polyamory wasn't your fault because you breathe through your skin.
Why are people calling you a degenerate now?
*Gags remembering 30 seconds of super mutant pounding shop*
I uh... Got no...
Just curious, are you blacklisted by anyone else aside from Konami, and I'm assuming Slaughtering Grounds?
Possibly square enix but they won't actually tell him if he's blacklisted or not.
+Jim Sterling good to hear square enix saw the error of their ways, thank god for you!
Another refined and polished article/video Jim. Thank you.
Blatant honesty is a gutsy policy. Keep it up Jim, thanks man.
Heres the problem, Jim. Kotaku is not games media, its trash. it should be black listed by any intelligent living being, including dolphins.
+Strazdas Especially by dolphins. Kotaku have no fish, its an absolute travesty i tell you!
termnus77
Why are they not diverse enough? I demand that 50% of their staff be dolphins!
I can imagine the dolphins now: "So long, and thanks for all the fish."
+Strazdas And now I'm reminded of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, thank you very much.
+Ocrilat Kotaku wants the title of journalists with all the privileges of it while having the freedom of bloggers and post whatever they want.
*****
Yea, I get that impression too.
+Digital Mint Yup...the National Enquirer can make the same claim...so by your reckoning, they are the same as the New York Times I suppose?
+Digital Mint And seriously...how can you think that '#FukKonami' and Kokaku grovelling and begging to be taken off of an invisible blacklist is the same thing?
>imagine a world where you can't bang Jim Sterling
I don't have to imagine it. ;~;
love the picture of the hammer scene from The Wall. Nice touch! :)
Hottest guy in Gaming?
You're humble, you could be hottest guy in the universe
Thank god for Jim Sterling
+HuntrBlackLuna Every other FF game ranked in the 90s. FF13 was only in the 80s. From a production standpoint FF13 does look good.
+Evnyofdeath Weird. it seems JRPGs get reviewed by JRPG players yet games in the west get reviewed by a variety. For Instance The escapist gave GTA V review to a guy who didn't like senseless violence in video games (so it seemed). yet every time I see JRPG reviews on metacritic it is all JRPG fans and experts (as it should be)
Another example of how games journalism and metacritic is broken. You wouldn't want a guy who hates RPGs reviewing TES6.
James Flynn That is true and is something that needs to be addressed. But as I said, from a production standpoint FF13 is a good game. It DID suffer from poor gameplay though.
"Imagine a world where you can't bang Jim Sterling..." **shudder** "That's not a world I want to live in!"
He responded with "I'm still proud we *made* it", completely oblivious that he ripped off millions of people
Then with Aliens Colonial Marines, when he was interviews for that game and the same questions asked, he replied that "I got to work with the original cast, i wouldnt trade that for anything".
Blanderlands 1 and 2 are games whose popularity I will never understand
Honestly, what Alien fan WOULD trade the opportunity to work with the original cast?
That DW footage you showed looked like a fun game. I think a great future JQ video would be a Top 10 DW game or styled game would make a fun one to watch. I hope you do this one.
Okay. The opening speech in this video was great. You keep on keepin' on Jim! Don't stop givin' the gift of you! XD
Video starts at 0:00 , just in case you're confused.
Why are there so many prawns ._.
+goldengameA I believe this are those fabled memes.
Iz dis memes?
+goldengameA If you're new to this, it's Jim's running gag. Free pr0n
+SAUglaz Are you sure that those are memes ?
Nioji_ MEMED
Right now i'm getting reports from reliable sources that those are, in fact, memes! We are yet to understand what this revelation will bring to humanity, but i can say for sure that this day marks the most important turn in our history!
There is enough of Sterling to go around for a moon to take orbit.
So this is the first video of yours I have seen. I hear your name all over the internet and Now I Know Why. This was an excellent video. So thoughtful and informative. I'm in man, I'm fucking in. Also thank you for sharing that personal stuff we all know that is not easy.
The light on his red glasses is actually not his lighting equipment reflecting, its actually Jim's Holiness irradiating from his eyebrows
+Neisza Because as we all know, bisexuality is basically just heterosexuality with gayness tacked on the side, right? Fuck off.
THEY KILLED SPLINTER CELL!
+Herr Vesker How, exactly?
+Kuchenjaeger splintering their cells.
+MrDynamicMan You made me do a real life "lol."
+Herr Vesker who and how?
MrDynamicMan God damn it.
Overkill can take their "apology" and stuff it until those microtransactions are done away with.
Still one of my all time favorite intros
I have to side with Bethesda. Kotaku deserved that from a completely neutral party. They got their ad revenue, now they have to deal with the consequences of leaking spoilers. For me this is something akin of leaking a Game of Thrones novel. You can't expect the writer to be cordial with someone after that. It isn't about good or bad reviews it's about fucking with someones IP.
Whats wrong with polygimy? i would love to have a harem of lesbians....i love lesbians theyre great.
+An Abra I'm guessing your a woman, if not then you are on a higher level of existence then me my friend and blessed be thy name
Lel i am a guy
An Abra
Before thee, Lord, I bow my head
+An Abra thats multiple marriages
Omg An Abra I must catch it!
EROTIC VIOLENCE!!!
You are the 1% of genuine games journalism.
Fantastic piece Jim, this is why you are my main source of games media.
okay, I love the opening in this
Good for you, Jim! Now start talking about the TPP again, please. It really help people to know about this important stuff.
Mr Jim F**king Sterling, Son.. Thank you so very much for being you and not changing because some people say (I almost said "Think" but realised they don't) you should!
Your #FKN Intro always makes me smile Jim :)
There are a few things you say that I have a problem with. But you are hilarious. Thank God for you.
Hehehehehe, the GRR Martin book title joke had me in stitches :D
His point on access is really good and is actually applicable to all kinds of news media, CNN's and MSNBC's of the world take note.
1:25 Two questions 1 Where dose the line start and 2. How long is the wait?
Leaking a script is not like issuing criticism or scooping a coming project. It is destructive to the project. If a media source leaked the script to the coming Star Wars movie, I would expect that they would not get access to early viewings of the movie or interviews from the cast.
Overkill's "apology" reminds me of the South Park episodes about the BP spill.... "We here at BP just wanna say, we're sowwyyy"
"Anybody who wants a bit, gets a bit."
Fukken saved.
The last few minutes were gold. I'm actually laughing out loud. Well done.
Jim and Videogamer are the best outlets out there.
