This is such a perfect theme for a final fight against your longtime rival. It fits so well in its style that no other remix/remake has ever come close to how great this is
0:00 best part it happened to every single one of us, the true perfect concoction of excitement and dread after we scraped through Lance and thought we were the champion with one Pokémon left battered and barely holding on. A fantastic ending to an extraordinarily innovative game that birthed the biggest franchise of all time. Sad that the Pokémon team do the exact opposite of innovate these days.
I remember hearing this, as a kid, for the first time through on my gameboy speakers on blue version; 1998. I actually let it play for a little while before starting the battle because it’s that good.
Yeah it's beautiful, this is the peak of the soundtrack, it's so melodic and for me so hopeful and melancholic at the same time, like it's telling you that this is it there's no turning back, you're at the end of the game fighting for your last battle for best trainer, you can do it, just give everything you've got and gained from your journey to earn it. My perfect champion theme even though it's so old! So admirable how music with so much passion can go through generations and express so much.
I remember the first time I got to the league champion I was sitting in a corner of ROSS and 2 other random kids were hovering over me like “holy crap he has a Jolteon!”
Very good final boss theme! When fighting Blue as Champion, I wanted to pay him back for not only taking the title that rightfully belongs to Lance, but also being so full of himself to think that he can get away with overshadowing Red. It would have been nice if this was played in the Johto games where this is the battle theme for Gym Leader Blue because you are taking on a former Indigo Plateau Champion who lost his title to Red.
for the goofballs that don't read the description - "The only extensions on UA-cam are either 7 minutes or 10 hours and that's stupid. So I'm going to provide extensions that you can actually use and download unlike these other idiots." you a real one for this 😅
Now I don't wanna simp for r/b/y and be a genwunner (lord knows that killed this franchise) But, man this champion was amazing. Because it felt _personal_ and the music amplified that. This wasn't just the final boss, it was your rival. He was always one step ahead of you, but you wouldn't know that if you don't read those statue things on the side at the entrance of every gym. Just when you thought you made it as champion after defeating Lance, arguably the strongest trainer up to that point, the rug is swept from your feet and this guy is laughing at you. You finally had a opportunity to shut him up and prove him wrong once and for all you're the better trainer. And Gen 2 vaguely implies that this is the last time they ever fought, period. Edit: Also, when I say 'killed this franchise', I mean made it into a soulless rehash of Gen 1 call backs. Pokemon is still clearly a money making titan and will likely stay like that until the heat death of the universe.
I take it that you're allowed to like any generation a lot, except generation one. Simp for any other generation and you're not actually a simp because if we expanded the definition of simp it would be too difficult to emphasize how bad genwunners are, I guess. We can't afford to use words properly, not when we have some genwunners to hate. The only real way to prove that you're a decent human being is to spend money on and play eight more generations of Pokémon games even when you don't feel like playing through the same franchise for the five millionth time and have moved on to other things, and just remember the original experience you had more fondly than that of others and don't feel that your experience was recreated in as good of a spirit when it came to later generations. It's just so hard to believe, somehow, that the most passion by a game developer might be put into an original title and that some people might get vibes of that while playing the original games, without them being extremely dumb or immoral people. They're just too dumb to understand that graphics and sound 20 years later is superior to that of what came before, and the fact that retro gaming is a thing is just a pure coincidence obviously. Don't they know we have 3D graphics now? It's a whole other dimension man. I don't even know sometimes. I would have thought that people who play Pokémon for the graphics would be the morons, but, what do I know, nothing obviously. Be a proud gen 1 simp. Don't let them hold you back from, gasp, liking something a lot.
Of course we can think about Occam's Razor if we feel like being rational. Clearly there is something different about gen 1, and some people might really like that difference, others might hate it, and others might be indifferent to it. Hence you can have a large variation in what people believe as well as the degree of severity in that belief, due to people having differences that are not worthy of hate. If people liked Pokémon for the particularities of generation 1, then naturally they won't like further generations, while not necessarily being extremely stupid people. But yeah, they just liked the wrong thing about a game. Next time you like a game, be careful. You might not be liking it for the right reasons, and when a new game in that series comes out, you might not like or dislike it the amount that you're supposed to, and you will be a really bad person for it. And you don't want to be that, do you? Either that, or, during Pokémon, people all coincidentally started liking the wrong things and became genwunners, and then after those few years, life continued as usual. You know, instead of the fact that, well, maybe other franchises that have less internal controversy may have had games that were more homogeneous. Ones that have more heterogeneity are going to have more people disagreeing no matter how smart or dumb the group of gamers of that franchise is. It will allow people's idiosyncrasies to play a bigger role than usual in which ones they prefer, whether they prefer one or another. But whatever, that's all gibberish to most people because it doesn't express enough hatred. I tried. And failed.
genwunners killed this franchise? real fans killed this franchise? is that really what you're trying to say? lmao, it's the tendie menchildren who keep buying this crap that killed this franchise. before you accuse me of being le heckin ebil genwunner, i literally grew up with the ds/3ds games
Fantastic compilation, it sheds a tear in my eye to listen to this soundtrack nearly 30 years later. However I noticed that you didn’t include the trainer victory theme, it’s one of my favourites. If you happen to read this, would you be okay with adding that one aswell? :]
just think about this for a second. If Stevens brother hadn't killed Miki, this battle would be you vs Steven instead of Blue. Now that would have been something.
I am not a fan of gen 1, but the original champion theme is way better than the remakes, i think Lets go kind of solves the problem of fire red/leaf green, personally, i prefer the champion theme from gen 2, but this ones is a banger
finally, one without insane reverb
Right? What's with that? Do they think chiptune sounds better when it's at the bottom of a well?
Fr, the harmonies bleed together and it’s nasty as hell, how has nobody pointed it out
The reverby ones are likely taken from the official soundtrack album, which has heavy reverb applied from start to finish
@@Exrier That one also had Pokémon cries and attack sounds in it too, didn't it?
@@Wflash00 yes
STILL gives me goosbumps, and I'm 37. If there's such a thing as endearing childhood trauma this is it

For real, this game was really pushing the limits of making music with the tech of the Game Boy. This still sounds great today. No remix needed.

did nintendo delete your elite 4 music?
E4 doesn't have a special theme in the original RBY.
They use the generic trainer battle theme
@@SongOfSoaring Except for lance, where they just reuse the gym leader theme.
@@cowrocks3630 Gym Leader theme should've been used for all of them, tbh. Except Bruno. Never Bruno.

I notice that R/B/Y uses the generic trainer battle theme for rival battles and Team Rocket battles.
Am I the only one who physically feels pain listening to this? Like, the song is good, but the 8 bit part of it just hurts.
Not unless you mean nostalgia. Fortunately I still have my original gameboy
