I did door to door sales very briefly. On my first day I carpooled with two guys who were supposed to show me the ropes. The guy driving unironically played audio of a speech from Wolf of Wallstreet to motivate us. After that he played Gordon Gecko's greed is good speech followed by Alec Baldwin's speech at the beginning of Glengarry Glen Ross. It was obvious that he completely missed the point of what these scenes were meant to express. His misreading of them was cartoonishly absurd, yet it emboldened his #grinding mentality.

A big timer guru actually admitted to the fraud in this industry! I was on a "training" a while back with a guru. This was about 4 years ago. And the guy was teaching people to build a list and send them offers from click bank. He was talking about the weight-loss niche and someone asked about the list drying out after one purchase since these people would've gotten their solution and he literally admitted in explicit words, that these offers don't work so they'll always be looking for the next things. These people will push out shitty products, preying on people's insecurities just for commissions. Ethics are the last concern for these shit heads.

very good interview. copywriting is the core of marketing, its like formulating an algorithm for the triggers for people; 'how do we get more people to spend money'. i equate it to the same thing that the highest paid 'algorithm-programming' people at google/facebook/tiktok do, which is essentially figure out 'how do we get people to spend more time'. As a copywriter who actually works in this industry, of course there will always be those that just say whatever to make sales... But if you conduct business that way, eventually you will get shut down for it. Real companies out there have legal teams that go through and make sure everything is ethical and true. There are a lot of great companies out there that do it the right way. Don't just fall for the fact that everything is a scam or everyone in marketing is liars.

NOT TRUE. The legal compliance teams form the largest part of the fraud. Can't find the link now, but IIRC, when finance and health got more regulated, the result was that the misrepresentations continued, but in a way that complies with formal regulations.
Basically all finance/health copywriters lean towards being unethical. We have an incredibly small number of truly reliable financial instruments, and you should only be buying health products that you REALLY NEED. So we don't need big new financial opportunities, and any health products we buy we'd have acquired with or without excessive advertising. While people are always looking out for financial opportunities, the truly valuable opportunities cant be packaged up and offered to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. So it's BS.

Like lets put our differences aside and realize that majority of our conflicts, were simply started by a bunch of desperate scam artists, not even some secret elite force or crap, but simply bunch of desperate mediocres looking to make a buck by turning a simple snake oil sand on a beach sell, into a whole cult and political campaign. Love the warnings about the smarmy, scammy companies - so helpful and saved me probably thousands of dollars. Thank you! On behalf of my husband and 4 young kids. I was on the cusp of falling into a couple of these traps. Could you please do an episode on legitimate, ethical Cooywriting practices and resources we can learn from or go to that won't suck us down a rabbit hole? I have a legitimate academic writing background and got additional training for grant writing, specifically, when I worked for a legitimate non-profit. There are great organizations with ethical standards in that space that help protect organizations, foundations, and writers. But there are none or they are hard to distinguish in the Copywriting space. Especially now with content becoming the monolith...
There are books by marketers etc. that are worth the $12 or audible credit you might spend on them - times 10.

They're definitely implying that their conditioner is 87% better than the competition, but if you read the asterisk, those numbers are usually from an in house lab and are comparing that company's shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioning treatment to just using shampoo by itself. So. Yah. Your hair's gonna be healthier if you condition it. Thanks.

“Are people just wanting a dad, or what?”
Poignant question, if you look at Jordan Peterson's success I think we can conclude that the answer is a resounding yes. He said it himself, nobody was selling responsibility. It was also interesting to see as a fan of his older psychology and bible lecture series how he seemingly inadvertently morphed into a self-help guru due to his popularity. This part of him I greatly dislike. Due to his profound influence over impressionable people he basically developed a cult of personality, intentionally or not.

Yeah people most definitely want fathers. It's so sad how many young men never got that traditional, responsible father figure to teach them how to be a man. My brother's dad (different from mine) wanted nothing to do with him and the men my mom brought around were not the type that could teach a boy how to be a man. I am certain that the lack of a father, which led to a lack of direction in life, is what led to my brother committing suicide

Something that's been on my mind for quite a long time since watching your videos: Affiliate Marketing per se is nor scam or a shady business. It's just about referring customers and getting commissions for that. I am making a living off Affiliate Marketing since 2009 by promoting legit products (like books, laptops, perfumes, ps games etc.) or services (hosting) on my websites, which fits their content.
It's just shady if you promote too expensive, useless products in questionable ways, like the scammers you refer to do. But Affiliate Marketing is a good way to make money; at least for me, because I have a couple of websites with a bunch of visitors!

    To Coffeezilla and his army,
I just wanted to say a couple of words just to change your prespictive on copywriting
First I gotta tell you I love your videos & I like what you do, believe it or not your channel actually saved me from that fucking Dan Lok Scam (I Was 15/16 back then and I was going to by his course STUPID ME) Well I'm 19 now and I've grown.
Anyways, Back to the point I'm a Copywriter & Copywriting to me is just a tool, a skill that can be used for good or bad , You can use it to sale SHITTY Products like (how to earn 6 figures in 1 week or how to loss ridiculous amount of weight in x days , there are even people who are claiming to have the cure to cancer) I never DO that and I Was always against it BUT as I Said you can used for good too (there is a whole niche on fundraising with people using their copywriting skills to help people all over the world)
I See it kind of as hacking you can Fuck people's lives or you can ACTUALLY Save them It's up to you to choose what you wanna do.
And Yes many Copywriters Choose the Bad Side but I Will never work with any person or company that would cause me to walk away from my very clear ethics and values.
Also a GREAT thing copywriting has giving me is that now thankfully I can spot any scammer in just seconds like for example I was watching the video of the scumbag with the pink shirt who laughs about people with 9 to 5 (yes a copywriter wrote his video script there's no question) but NOW I can see exactly what he's doing how he's creating Intimacy/Urgency/he's fucked up reason on why he's charging his course (ACTUALLY that made me laugh so hard)
Anyways I Hope you see this, you're awesome keep what you're doing
    FUCK DAN LOK
and have a nice day ;)
