Carl Jones discussed the fourth season of "The Boondocks," which received poor reviews due to lack of the "spark" seen in previous seasons. He attributed this to the absence of key contributors who brought a unique element to the series. Jones also discussed Aaron McGruder's 2013 Kickstarter for a live-action movie featuring Uncle Ruckus, which he had no involvement in. @@Udontlikeice i think he meant that sometimes, people just drift apart naturally especially when they don't have the primary unifying/driving force (in this case, the Boondocks show) to bounce off of anymore. Same shit with old school friends you haven't seen/spoken to in ages, or in some cases even family members or friends outside work/school. Shit just happens like that sometimes 🤷♂
Simply put, these men created the feeling we know and love from boondocks. Once you try to replace that it never works.

If anything, I wonder if Aaron will get hold of this interview and decide that he wants to tell his side of things.
@@Kobe-jz2zzAaron resented the fact that Carl was working on Black Dynamite. Carl was never going to leave The Boondocks, but Aaron started questioning his dedication and loyalty after that.
Aaron seems like the kind of person to hold grudges, and Carl still wanted to come back to The Boondocks when season four wasn't moving forward in production. I think it's clear that the problems are one-sided.
Season 4 was definitely a drop off but the Boondocks changed the game with so many memorable moments in just 3 seasons.

I was thinking the same thing. Without the Wayans Scary Movie was NOT the same. Ironically the Zucker brothers helped create the spoofing genre, but the Wayans perfected it!

I was upset that the reboot got scrapped at first, but now that I think about I'm happy because the original boondocks (season 1-3) will remain as a masterpiece and trying to replicate it may actually harm the greatness of boondocks.
My ex girlfriend introduced me to the Boondocks and she told me she was obsessed with it. Then I became obsessed. Definitely a masterpiece that will stand the test of time.

@@sharonjo7630 in sum that they were gonna use some type of AI that would replicate his dad's voice. Being able to form new lines nd they also had another person that could voice Granddad. He didn't sound as much like John Witherspoon but would be more famous than his son.

4:00 "Aaron didn't want to use him" I really wish we could unpack that and get some clarification on the JD Witherspoon voicing Grandad situation. It was alluded that the studio didn't want him, but I guess was Aaron?
It's not that hard to understand. The suggestion was that JD voice Grandpa because John was deceased. I can see why Aaron wouldn't want to go through with that on a regular. JD is not the same as his father. John WAS Grandpa. No amount of imitation would hide that fact over time. Also, Aaron probably has some fond memories of working with John. He'd just know it wouldn't be the same.

The 4th season was crap. All it was was the Freeman family trying to avoid losing their house and getting into a bunch of shenanigans trying to save it. It was the same thing almost every episode.

Thanks so Much Vlad for clearing this out, because just last week I watched the rerun of BOONDOCKS and all the way to the Season3 and was enjoying the series reliving those moments I watched it years ago until I got to Season 4 which everything went off the rails, something was just missing I could feel it.
