Love how everyone is comparing it to a Tesla. It is in the Mercedes, BMW market not the common person market. It's not even interested in competing with Tesla. Polestar is a luxury class car. It's not for everyone, but it is for some.
Yeah, it's a nice design... except for the size. Why are all modern car designs so absurdly huge? It's just a saloon. Is it designed for elephants, or humans?!
Yes, interesting to see and hear of al the features, but also makes me happy that I have most of these features, with a performance like the LWB single-motor version, in my Hyundai Ioniq 6 RWD for over $40K less of the money losses 😁🥰
A big hello from France. It's a real pleasure to see you again, with your enthusiasm and your very British humour, no offence! Keep on giving us videos of this quality (fun and very well documented at the same time) and you really make me want to go and visit the kiwis. ( DEEPL translate )
Your wrong about the price of that car in New Zealand. Its a Black colour upgrade with pro pack wheel upgrade and cost $123,990. The dual motor option car with the performance pack will set you back $139,990. That price is ridiculously expensive when you can get a Tesla model Y for nearly half the price.
Great review as usual. Your exuberance over bidirectional charging is well placed. For an excellent appraisal of this functionality as well as the rapid evolution of EVs it's well worth checking out the recent YT interview by NBC News of Ford CEO Jim Farley. Jim's insight and appreciation of EVs' potential in the transport and energy sectors is impressive.
For any Polestar model, you will probably find a similar Geely/Zeekr/Volvo sibling. Those humble siblings are likely to be more affordable. Watch the space.
It's about time too... what took you :P - not sure why they delayed you so long becuse they have been on sale for a number of weeks before they let you review the car. Great review as always hope you like the flight to and from Spain
Nice review 👍 Do you really get lost? I get lost in France, but so far I've never managed it in Spain, maybe I'm not trying hard enough 😂 I really do like all models of Polestar, they seem to be getting better and better.
I never claim it to be the wrong side only the other side, but at the same time you have lived in Europe previously. Always love your reviews though, had me laughing and haven't seen you do a mafia style test for awhile seeing how well a body fits in the boot. ;) What sort of clearance does it have underneath, is it enough for some light off-roading well as in gravel/dirt roads? Not expecting Rivian style off-roading I know, more soft-offroading I suppose you call it.
Another example of the mobile phone flying out of the holder when you punch it. Good display of acceleration, but something to fix even if it's just a piece of rubber.
@@morri03 They won't sell many at that price. Polestar share price has declined around 94 percent since their IPO which tells me the brand is in trouble.
@@almac9203 well they won’t sell many because EV sales are about 90% down in NZ not because it’s too expensive. It makes the polestar 2 look very expensive since it’s in the model 3 / Y space which are cheap as Elon tries to keep the dream alive
On the ORA there is a kick under the boot switch, which is not the best description, because......the sensor is so fine that one has to kick under the centre of the "E" on the number plate. Not one cm to the left or right. Basically you have to be Diego Maradona to open the boot by this method.
These swoopy "coupe SUVs" all have the same issue of rear headroom, and deleting the rear windows allows them to expand the glass room to behind the rear headrests, carving out a few cm of additional headroom for the rear passengers and also making it seem more airy because of the larger rear glass.
The pricing is a lot less than it was going to be. I guess they know now that ev sales are dead and has to be competitive to sell more than a handful. Pity it is so big
Chinese cars really come a long way. Their EVs are so competitive that they are forced to innovate. I drove the Polestar 2 in NZ and it was incredibly smooth.
@@MasterChief37 Yes Polestar is a majority owned Chinse company, just like how Volvo Cars is majority owned by Chinas Geely, Geely Automobiles also builds the Polestar cars in their factory in China. Just like the battery and everything is from China.
@@MasterChief37 It's because China was never known for their vehicles, it was mainly German and Japan. Then in 2023 China became the #1 exporter for the first time beating Japan. So based on the facts, they have come a really long way. Unless you would like to refute or discuss anything I said?
This is a failure already, the price is too god dang high. Was this meant for only 100 people in the world that would be remotely interested in this and even less, buy it?
These prices are in New Zealand Dollars. 1€ = 0,57 NZD (New Zealand dollar). So if you do the math, the entry level car is at 68395€, which is a good price for such a car.
It’s a great ev with really good build quality. I think the price is actually decent when you compare it to other luxury car manufacturers, of which you pay a premium for the brand and the brand only. I would say this car is turning out to be even better than those cars. I think the range could be a bit better but considering it’s an ev where range doesn’t really matter cost wise… it’s still good. For example, getting more range in a gas car is much more important due to wear and tear, also the cost of gas and oil. Considering the luxury aspect and sportiness and practicality and low operating costs, the price is justified imo

Now this is a gorgeous car! Finally!
I am becoming a Polestar Fan Boy, very quickly here.

Gav, what a legend! Especially for a guy that's not an official Polestariologist.
Lovely car. It's fun to watch the evolution of these vehicles. Not so much fun is the price. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford one.

Awesome, another great review plus the bonus of a stand-up comedy show! Or, sitting down, I guess....
More Gav please he's the reason we are here.
Yay! Another Gav video. Nice car with great featuers... but... hooooo boy that's not a cheap vehicle.

eh thats BMW/Merc money the Model Y isnt in that market at all. This is made for Architects with spare cash I think
You’re comparing a budget Tesla model Y with a Polestar 4, seriously what are you smoking? 😂
And is in it too dark in the back without rear window?

yes, they are using SEA platform, same size, Cheaper: Zeerk 001, more expensive: Lotus Eletre; Smaller size but cheaper: Smart #1 & #3

Gav - I am thinking the size measurements they given you include the side/wing mirrors hence the car is larger than the model 3
Thanks for a great review! But are you sure about V2L and V2G? When I have asked Polestar they have more or less said no.
🤔🤓👍

Battery prices are tumbling, I heard by 50% in the last 18 months. They are a major cost component of an EV, why aren’t the car prices tumbling too?
Nice car but looks like the Polestar brand has not performed well in JD Power initial quality survey in the USA.
The lack of a rear window is just stupid, a glass roof but nno back window is a strange design choice.

I dont think polstar gets it...Chinese EV's with the same features and beautiful design for half of the price...
Good video. But you said polestar 4 has air suspension. It doesn’t. Only the polestar 3 has air suspension
