Many thanks for the information, everything was so very useful to know. Please advice me; at the Jamaican High Commission London office, S.Kensington, will my UK passport and all other documentation be kept until the application process is complete or is the requirement need, to only have the documents copied, scanned & given back to me once the appt is complete on the day of the application appt? Here, here, excellent commentary Sis, this discussion soo needs to be had. Why are we as a people so resistant to this. I have been meaning to get this and was unsure, ugly learnt in 2022 I could. Did you have a step by step guide or merely got through the high commission?? @@Jermaynemoore you will just need to get an official replacement. It’s usually pretty simple and inexpensive to do. How to get one depends on the country where they were born.
For the UK, you need to contact the local authority (council) where their birth was registered.
For Jamaica, I believe you need to apply through the Registrars General Department (and if I remember correctly you can apply online), but please do double check for yourself.
Applying for citizenship you will definitely need the birth certificates of all people involved.
      Hope this helps

Thanks for creating this! I'm only a few min in, but wanted to mention that I'm not sure if your daughter could get citizenship by marriage. If she did, I think it would take something ridiculous like being a resident for 8-10 years before she could apply.
I married a Jamaican and only got residency. When I asked about getting citizenship, the immigration officer mentioned it would take years.
I later found out I could get citizenship because my dad and grandparents are Jamaican. So, I'll be getting it this year when I move back!
I think it's also important to note how easy it is to get Jamaican Citizenship by ancestry. In Canada, it doesn't really matter what your ancestry is. If you weren't born here, you're going to have to be here as a resident for 5 years, submit all these documents (for residency and citizenship process), and then pass a test about Canada's history. Sometimes, you might even need to take an interview.
For Jamaica, you literally just need to have a parent or grandparents who was born there.
I'm so excited to become a Jamaican citizen this year!

I also wanted to update you that I checked the immigration website and it looks like she can get citizenship through marriage. However
      - it'll cost significantly more
      - it'll take a lot more paperwork
And lastly, as you may already know, the Jamaica website isn't always correct. They say on the website there's no time period to wait before applying, but the immigration officer I had asked some years ago said it would take at least 8-10 years before I could apply through marriage. I've learned not to always trust their website. Lol
