Thanks for this informative video. Mine just came in the mail today, right before I had to leave for work. It's killing me knowing that it's sitting a couple of miles away and I can't play with it. 😥 It's hard finding as many tutorial videos for this thing, compared to how many there are for other Roland gear, such as the 707 and TR-8S. So, I guess you're going to be my tutor while I get comfortable using the MX-1. Anyway, great stuff. Keep up the great work.
@@ranzee I absolutely love mine! This thing really is like its own instrument. The amount of effects is insane. And not to mention that it makes the audio infinitely better too. Granted, I'm new to synths and my only other mixer is a Behringer 8 channel mixer that cost like 60 or 70 bucks. The MX-1 blows it out of the water though.
Hey man. Thanks again for your great tutorials! I recently found a video making a small demo on button-combos on the MX-1 (not sure if it was your video), and that blew my mind open as far as live performance goes for this thing. I then found out that the MX-1 has 20 Combo Presets (Hold Combo, turn TEMPO knob). Now, do you know if it's possible to store ones own Combo patches into these slots? Seems this data doesn't get stored within the Scenes...
Hey Chris, Thanks for the question. Off the top of my head, I can't recall - but I have a feeling it can't. My MX-1 isn't setup at the moment (just got it back after getting it repaired). If you're in a hurry to get the answer - you can head on over to RolandClan forums.
@@ranzee OK so I just RTFM'd again and found the answer. The changes done to a Combi Pattern are saved automatically, so one should be cautious. I also tested if Combi Patterns generated at random by the Shuffle function are saved; and they are not, UNLESS you make any change to the pattern after it has been generated :-)
It returns to the Master - so you record that. If you want to record it separately, you'll need to pipe it into one (or two) of the analog inputs (two if you want stereo).
hey mate, thanks for the informative vid. Just wandering how to make it possible to be able to record effects/mutes/faders via usb? when I make vids none of them seem to work :(
Hi guthryenker! You can record the button and slider automation using a DAW. All you do is setup a MIDI track and set the MIDI input as MX-1 and record that way.
Hey Ranzee. If you're in "live" move, and use the knobs as send-control on each channel, how do you route reverb signal from send A, back to the main mix? When I send A to the master mix, I can't hear it, I can only hear it if I return it back into one of the mixers inputs. Do you know a way to hear the master sends without using a channel on the mixer? Thanks!
The effects sound great but it such a shame that you can't have more than one at a time. That's a huge limitation but I bet they're doing it on purpose to make you buy some Boss pedals.
Hi Max16032 ... Yep, agreed! As this won't ever change, isn't it awesome they added an FX AUX send and return? So you can do both internal and external and you can choose how the internal FX are applied pre or post. Have an awesome day!

Cheers mate - enjoy! Still got my MX-1 going strong!

Hey Chris - that's great! Sorry, I haven't been much help. It's been chaotic here. I've just got delivery of quite a bit of new gear :)
Thanks how can you record the return fx in ableton?
